Quaker: I have a tattoo-related question for Farkers who are knowledgeable about these things: How effective are the non-laser tattoo removal products I've heard of like Wrecking Balm, and can they be used in combination with laser tattoo removal to reduce the number of expensive laser treatments you would need?

wrecking balm is a chemical burn waiting in a bottle. its shiat, works like shiat, and if you used it with laser treatments will probably fark you up

I was wondering the same thing. The head tattoos are easy enough to hide with hair (as long as he doesn't go bald), but the ones on the hands and elsewhere...sheesh...that's a LOT of laser removal

I think he just uninstalled Photoshop.

I am at work so i cant upload my only piece, but here goes CSB:
brother and cousin died in a shiatty car wreck about 9 months ago. found out shortly after that he had put a deposit down at Faith Tattoo in golden for the solid profile of an ironworker connecting steel. a few months after all settled and everyones brains started working, my cousin [who lost his younger brother as well in the wreck] and my dad went to the same guy to get their memorial pieces done on their backs. none of us have ever had a tattoo.

i got the profile he was going to get standing center spine on two i-beams branching out from on top of a column across my shoulders in a very POW style all black silohuette with an interlocked C and C where the ibeams meet standing for cole and casey. the ibeams fade from solid black at the ends and the two I's represent Integrity Iron, the company I now co-run with my cousin. Took like.. 5 tries to get the stencil on perfectly symmetrical on my back.

I never want to have another good reason to get a tattoo again. the piece turned out amazing and i put three months of thought in to it.
if you go to the website you can see my cousins back piece under Matts page, but their webpage is terrible, and i am as anti religious as they come.

wish i had a pic in the office to post, maybe when i get home.
dont get solid black up a solid half or more of your spine.

And if something is important to you, you don't need a tattoo to be reminded of it.

Why? Why not sterilize them in an autoclave? Is it because they get dull? It can't be a cleanliness issue. When they're "new" don't they have to be sterilized?

Yes, dullness is a reason you wouldn't want to re-use, aside from disease/pathogens.
It is also a reason not to re-use medical needles and piercing needles. Skin dulls up the points, and the more you use it, the more it tears through skin vs slicing.

This article was kind of meh. Some good points, some whatever stuff in there.

needles will get surprisingly dull during the tattoo process. a dull needle puts ink in like shiat. takes longer, and looks patchy healed out. plus re-using needles is farking disgusting and definitely is a sign to RUN, not walk the hell outta that shop

you're making the assumption that people do it to feel unique and/or special. Why can't it be that they just enjoy the art, enjoy the process, or a whole slew of reasons people modify their bodies? It seems like the one in the conversation most focused on being unique and special is you when they seem to be just doing what they want. If you're so focused on not being modified to feel unique how is that any better than the person who feels they have to change their body to fit in? I was in the elevator with a guy who had Chinese tattoo'd on his forearm. I thought I recognized the character for beef "yo"...nudged my Chinese friend, who can read Chinese, to confirm. She smiled, and when the guy got out of the elevator she said "Yeah, it says Beef Chow Ho Fan". So, "Beef with fat rice noodles".

you're making the assumption that people do it to feel unique and/or special. Why can't it be that they just enjoy the art, enjoy the process, or a whole slew of reasons people modify their bodies?

Because it is not their art, it is the tattoo guy's art. It is akin to saying "I bought the new Stones album, so therefore I am a musician." There is only *one* reason why people modify their bodies with commercial tattoos and piercings, and that is to set themselves apart from everyone else.

It seems like the one in the conversation most focused on being unique and special is you when they seem to be just doing what they want. If you're so focused on not being modified to feel unique how is that any better than the person who feels they have to change their body to fit in? so sorry again, but no. your tattoo isn't just suffering from age or being 'dry' if you take particular notice of calvin's head/face and the top hand on hobbes...see how those lines are so thick and wobbly that you can't really make anything out? thats called blow-out. thats what happens when the 'artist' goes too deep into the skin and actually hits the fat layer. this cause the ink to bleed or blow out. a good tattoo apprentice will have learned how to avoid blow out before they start tattooing paying customers. the tattoo was done too small to begin with, which is why you're really having compounded issues with the blow out and just the natural way lines can 'spread out' over time just dude to your skin regrowing. doing the tattoo larger would've allowed 'more room to breathe' so the design could handle that effect and still look good. again, all shiat a tattoo artist is supposed to learn BEFORE making permanent marks on people.

so in short, in my professional opinion, you got HOSED
also in my professional opinion, get it covered up and have it re-tattooed somewhere else on your body and have it 'done right'

A good start would be spending more than 10 minutes deciding what to get inked permanently on your body. I've lost count of the number of girls I've seen with the same damn cookie cutter butterfly or star on them somewhere. At least the nearly ubiquitous tramp stamp seems to be fading in popularity lately.

There *are* some cool tats out there, but they are few and far between. At least 90% of what I see is tacky, trashy, passé stuff. Tattoos have gone from an expression of individuality and rebellion to trendy fashion accessory that everyone just has to have because all their friends have them too. Seems like those of us without any ink are the rebellious ones these days.

2012-06-21 05:54:41 PM
One of these days I am going to get Japanese kanji on one arm that says "Refrigerator" and a tattoo of a Refrigerator on the other. I'll have the kanji exposed for all to see, and when someone who understands what it says asks "Do you know what that really means?" I'll roll up my sleeve and show them the fridge tat and say "Damn straight I do!"

I was at the beach today with my kid's class (end of year thing).
There was about 50 parents and teachers there.
I counted 5 people who didn't have tattoos (that I could see, anyway).
Almost every single woman there had some sort of pathetic little ankle tattoo at the very least; or some cheesy "deep thought" tattooed on their back.
It was tragically conformist.
