(LiveLeak)   Since it's the first full day of summer, perhaps it's time for a lesson on how to properly eat a watermelon courtesy of Washington DCs own Peetey Green   (liveleak.com) divider line 27

Exactly this, except without the watermelon.

He was very interesting. I first heard of him from Howard Stern, Green was one of Howard Stern's influences.

The wiki page on Green say that Stern showed up to an interview on his show in black face. I can't imagine what that looked like. Well well well... Looks like we may get to find out.

Talk to Me is a pretty decent biopic about Petey even if it's not completely accurate.

If you watch this video, Peetey Green advises against that.

Best part

Foreshadowing his later showmanship, Petey convinced a young inmate to climb a water tower in the prison yard and threaten suicide. As pre-arranged, Petey talked the man down in just minutes, remarking afterwards, "It took me six months to get him to go up there." Petey's contrived act of heroism earned his release in 1965.

Little known fact; Peetey Green is Dave Chappelle's father. Doesn't surprise me, really.....

What a charming fellow.

I shouldn't watch things like this. It makes me think that I can bring such things up even jokingly in public. I had no idea that affinity for watermelon is a mark of such shame for black Americans.

Fried chicken, I can understand because of the health problems and chitterlings because they're part of the food cast-off culture of slaves. But fruit? Who could feel ashamed of such an affinity?

Must be my ignorance.

This is one of dumbest stereotypes there is. To paraphrase Dave Chappelle "who the f*ck doesn't like chicken and watermelon"

and here is how you eat fried chicken

I am inclined to take offense to this.

I am about as pale-skinned as you can get, German-Irish roots. But I was raised in Texas, and I love cold watermelon, strawberry soda, chicken-fried anything, okra, creole food, and chicken and waffles (Never had it but it sounds farking delicious.) Those food stereotypes are not African-American, they're Southern. There's no racial stereotype with good, obesity-inducing food.

/I don't just sound fat, I AM fat!

My grandma always had fried chicken waiting for me, and I'm about the skinniest whitest nerdiest. And you're damn right watermelon was part of the meal. Nothing better than spitting seeds on a warm summer evening on the back porch.

In summary, I wish I knew more black people.

I've lived in the south for the last 13 years and finally had chicken and waffles. It was freaking magical... Then the damn place ditched their brunch menu.

Dubya. Tee. Eff!
