wow, holy crap these allegations are awful. Nice of the teaching aides to wait several months to report this. For most of the stuff being accused, I would wait no more than ten seconds to report.

The teacher had been suspended and was under investigation -- an investigation that revealed that the filing cabinet incident was one of many alleged filing cabinet incidents, and a whole lot more, reports the Houston Chronicle.

Now I'm starting to wonder how many kids you can fit in a standard filing cabinet....

At least the teacher hasn't been accused of linking to AOL News. That'd be inhumane!

Why did it take so long for this to be reported? Fire the principal and the football coach! This is the only sane thing to do in such situations.

I'd file her under "3". Only have to beat her 3 times to make sure she doesn't tell her parents about the "extra credit" I gave her.

FTFA: "No previous allegations of abuse or neglect have ever been made against Gosch, and the principal at her previous school had no recollection of inappropriate behavior"... that the principal was willing to go on record about, since the principal wanted to get rid of the abusive teacher, but didn't want to get sued.

Fixed that for them.

NO CHILD LEFT UNCOLLATED

2012-06-21 01:03:18 PM
Gosch had allegedly called the students "losers," "stupid," "retarded" and "a biatch." She would hit and kick them, and let them eat food from the bathroom floor. She would lift their pants and underwear, exposing the students in front of the class, to see if they had "gone to the bathroom," and steal the students' snacks.

It's called tough love.

Hell yes there should be cameras in the classroom. And WTF aides, that this went on for months before you reported it? You are MANDATED REPORTERS! That means, you see it, you call. As soon as you can get to a phone. You do not wait months. Therefore you have committed a serious crime by not reporting this, and you too should lose your job and face charges.

Every time I read a thread or story like this, I think to all the teachers I've worked with and wonder which of them would be capable of something like this. Sadly, the list actually has a few names on it -there are plenty of people who go into teaching who really don't like kids.

//My school has cameras in every classroom - I'm sure it prevents stuff like this.

2012-06-21 01:23:41 PM
Problem: Special Ed kids can be extraordinarily difficult to work with. Even the highest-functioning autistic cases can fly off the handle. Ever date a bipolar person? It's that times 10. Don't get me started on the profoundly low-functioning ones.

Problem: You need a lot of special ed teachers, and even more classroom assistants. Government says you HAVE to. Equal something-or-other. (Equal my ass - if we spent that much time and money tutoring the smart kids, we'd have cured cancer by now.)

Problem: Almost nobody goes into teaching wanting to do special ed, but that's where the jobs are, and for every person who falls in love with it (because it can be rewarding), there's three or four who run the other way and take the first job they can find teaching English, Social Studies, or whatever else they're licensed for.

Welcome to the bottom of the barrel. Enjoy your stay.

Problem: People have breaking points. Sometimes, they reach them before they can GTFO of teaching.

What amazes me is that this stuff doesn't happen more often.

My personal pet theory is that a big chunk of those 19th century child graves dotting family cemeteries throughout the rural US were the ones who "just ain't right." Parent snaps, beats the kid to death, says the horse kicked 'em, everybody tries not to feel too relieved.

Gosch's father passed away sometime last year and she began taking prescription medication.

I didn't know bath salts are now a prescription medication.

Good to know.

So.. what's the end game for someone with this level of autism? Just exist until you die?
Just hold out hope for a true cure to bring you around to "functional" level?

I honestly don't know.

Exist as a victim for people who enjoy humiliation and non-consensual sadism to abuse without repercussion until eventually one of them goes too far and breaks their favorite toy.
