(Slate)   Because apparently it's too hard to force people to condense their thoughts into a manageable length, Twitter is considering doubling the number of characters you can use to share with everyone whatever it is people share on Twitter   (slate.com) divider line 27

Now Twitter users can wax poetic not only on the emergence of their feces, but also the color, texture, consistency and odor in the same tweet!

I always thought the 140 character limit was awfully low to begin with. I think less than 300 characters is just fine.

If you cannot express yourself accurately in 140 characters or less, there is something wrong with you.

140 characters would be fine if everyone would stop tweeting a combination of hash tags and links to take you other places that you've already posted. SEO has ruined twitter like it has everything else.

Also, in the event of a major trending topic, like Lindsay Lohan dying from OD, Once a joke has been made can we stop people from retweeting or blatantly repeating the joke ad nauseam?

How many characters do you need to let everyone know that poop is coming out?

"poop out"

8, I believe.

Wouldn't that double the cost of internet-ether while halving the profit made on Twitters business model?

Most Internet users believe if they've seen it twice, it's a meme and needs to be spread like a virus.

It has to do with SMS, allowing for 20 characters for things like user names n shiat

/You can tweet via SMS
//Why you would want to is beyond me

So weird, and here you and I grew up when if it had been said, there's no need to say it again. Memes are organic, not forced groupthink.

Why is there a 140 character limit to start with?

2012-06-21 11:59:45 AM
I routinely write 140 word sentences; 140 characters is absurdly short - and reading the complete hash people make of sentences to fit that limit, it is not reasonable. Since most tweets kinda make sense, 240 would probably fix the problem

If you don't mean "Paragraphs", all I have to say to you is "Cut that shiat out".

140 characters will limit you to expressing the banal, and the inane. I say this as a person who had difficulty in school with papers of a required length, because I could cover the topic better than most, with only 75% of the word count.

If you're left with 140 characters, sure. But with #hashtags, @names, and http://Links, you lose half of your space just getting started.

I did the same on my papers but teachers usually cut me slack for it. Your paper doesn't NEED to be 15 pages if 12 can cover it. *shrug*

The way my lit professor would put it, "writing a paper is like a woman's skirt. It needs to be long enough to cover all the important parts, but short enough to keep things interesting".

Nicely put! I'm using that

As someone with nineteen characters in their name, including a hyphen, I want to know when Twitter is going to allow nineteen character names. And hyphens.

Tweet a link to Amazon.

140 characters is plenty to condense musings that are only 280 characters deep.
