I like my 24 hour fitness membership. Can go to any of them and pay $20 a year. Oh ya!

Can't really beat ~ $1.75 a month.

Tad_Waxpole: Try cancelling your SiriusXM radio membership.

Seconded. I really want to see them go belly-up over that nonsense. I'm surprised the FTC hasn't moved in on them.

Hell, even upgrading radios is a huge pain. I've upgraded twice, and each time you have to call them and say "No, don't add this radio. Remove the old one and replace..." Argh! I do like their service, but every single time!

gingerjet: When I cancelled my membership at Lifetime fitness I sent them a certified letter, called them, and then reported the credit card as lost. They continued to try to bill me and sent me vaguely threatening letters for months afterwards. Then at around six months or so they switched their tone and asked me to come back at half my old monthly rate.

fwiw, lifetime never gave me any trouble beyond calling me once every six months for the next YEARS offering me a re-up. But a single "no thanks, I don't live anywhere near you" gets them to stop for 6 more months.

Now, planet fitness, THAT was a disaster. Motherfarkers and their 10 a month no memberships bullshiat. I joined right before the annual fee month that hits once each year, and then I only got let out of the non-membership without a penalty by lying about being in the military.

THIS though, my friends, is the gym of choice:

SCUBA_Archer: I need to call Sirius. Just got a bill for $225 for a year of radio. I don't really want to cancel, but I figure they'll give me a nice rate to stay on if I threaten it. Anyone squeeze any good deals out of them lately?

I do this every 5 months, but I call to cancel, tell them that it's too expensive and that I can't afford more than $25 for 6 months for the service. They'll give a little run around, but will cave when you tell them to go ahead and cancel. If the guy is having a bad day and says that they cannot do that, just cancel it anyways. In about a month they'll give you 2 weeks free service and send you offers to rejoin for $25 for 6 months.

I bought a new car with sirius xm and had a sirius radio prior that I cancelled and they continue to send me emails to hook up my old radio. Now, if they could push it to $50 for 1 year, I'd rather do that so I don't have to call them a day prior to my 5 month/6 month deal re-upping for the full price again and they'll give me the same deal. Rinse and Repeat.

Apparently I've been doing it right. I have replaced a few radios with Sirius and never had a problem with them replacing it, or removing radios that my deadbeat brother never paid me for.

I was a little freaked out about canceling LA Fitness last summer after reading these types of stories, but doing it via certified mail did the trick. (It sounds like some people here have done that and it still doesn't work).

Seriously, that's the only large gym chain I've ever joined and as much as I liked the equipment, they were hyper-aggressive about trying to sell me personal training. (Most of the staff I spoke to sounded like they'd read a couple issues of Men's Health and were now "experts" on the topic).

Eh, it is 200 channels that each play the same set of 15-20 songs OVER AND OVER now.

I miss when you could listen to Jam On for 12 hours and maybe, maybe hear the same song three times at most.
