When I was younger my hair was RED and I hated it! Now that it's become more sandy/gray I miss it so much. 3 of my sisters are redheads and they each exhibit some, but not all characteristics of the stereotypes. But then again, so do my non red sisters, so go figure.

Scotland, especially 500 years ago, was full of redheaded remnants of their viking predecessors. so this chick needs to relax and start enjoying being special.

Full on ginger here and I am damn proud of my ginger temper. No one messes with me due to this stereotype. And I have snapped and yelled at people before causing them to fear me... Goes with the whole no soul thing too.

CavalierEternal: Relatively Obscure: Being a redhead girl is probably awesome. Being a red haired guy like me is significantly less awesome.

If it makes you feel better, there's currently a high demand for red-headed NFL quarterbacks.

If Red Heads weren't fiery, they wouldn't be fun.

Seriously, why does she view this as a negative stereotype? The passionate unsubmissive woman who wants a man to stand with her instead of over her.

That's a bad thing now?

My hair has a natural red tinge to it, but appears more brunette indoor lighting. In the sun it's this copper brilliantness. It gets blonde highlites with sun exposure. I'd be a fool to dye it.

My ex-wife used to get mad when the sun bleached my hair towards red. Worse, it started to curl when it hit about 6" or so. She was bitter that my hair did naturally what she paid folks to do to her hair. I think she got more bitter when I cut it all off...

You are most likely correct and I'd like to subscribe to your newsletter if you have one available.

My coworkers know I like redheads, so when we're out for lunch or after work they'll point out every woman who has even a remotely red tinge to their hair, natural or not. It gets annoying because first, it's not like red hair is a prerequisite for me to find someone attractive, it's a bonus. And second...most of the time it's not even real red hair, and usually pretty clearly so. I mean honestly, pink guys? NTTAWWT, but it's clearly not red.

Case in point. Now don't get me wrong, she's definitely attractive, but she's not a redhead. That's not a natural shade, at least not one I've ever seen.

CSB

I was regularly farking a redhead in high school. Great sex but she always wanted to do it without any protection. After I broke up with her she claimed she was a preggle for a month. She wasn't. She did get pregnant later though by some other dude that looked like me. And I was the first to fark her after her abortion. So it kinda worked out pretty well for me as I never had to pay for the abortion, just had the crazy pre and post abortion sex.

Real redhairs, dyed redhairs, long hair, short hair... A beautiful woman is a beautiful woman... unless she has no eyebrows...

About the article, it sounds more like a "Make a character like meeeee" kind of thing...

Want to subvert the "Fiery, passionate, redhaired rebel" trope or archetype? Write a a story about a meek and passive redhair and see how it goes...

/Brave is one of the movies that I HAVE TO SEE on theater.

Close2TheEdge: So back to the article..

Instead of heralding the fact that a children's movie has a strong female lead who takes matters into her own hands, and refuses to be forced into marriage because of convention, this writer bemoans the stereotype of "the fiery redhead."

I think there are far worse things in movies to get upset about.

It's Slate. They wouldn't have anything to write about if they didn't focus on the banal.

I was thinking that Brave was going to tell the story of a young girl that doesn't conform to stereotypes. At least that's what my feminist wife believes so we're going to go see it. It seems like every movie that comes out these days pisses off some group. Remember the whole the Avengers is giving adopted people a bad name thing?

I am adopted and have an adopted son and word on the street is some adopted people are getting very very touchy. Of course I'm pretty close to the whole 'Magdalene laundries/stolen babies' story, so I may be a little more atuned to it.

ever notice how 90% of actual legitimate redheads aren't that good looking, and that 90% of redheads are only redheads thanks to the miracles of science?

yeah...

on legitimate redheads: my dad gave me some advice when i was young. i didn't listen, and i wish i had.

'son, don't date italian girls or redheads. it's nothing but misery, trouble, and occasionally getting your ass kicked because they shot their mouth off at the wrong person.'

it's all true.

i'm passing it on to my sons.

Author of TFA has obviously never seen a Disney princess movie. They're ALL fiery redheads at heart. It would have been funny to see them blow a gasket about Ariel. Teenage girls gonna act like teenage girls.

I may go see this movie. It looks stunning.
