From what footage I've seen, I'm pretty sure the heroine in the movie is a Daywalker, not a Ginger.

I live in the the American South, where redheads are rare enough to almost be exotic. If you asspickles can't be bothered with gingers, SEND THEM ALL TO ME.

If you were already having passionate arguments you didn't start, adding kids to the mix would have likely just amplified that. And would have been paired with less sex. And you would have been pulled out of "party boy" mode before you were ready. You probably dodged a bullet.

So she says it's a Brit "semi serious disdain for gingers", but does it not occur overseas as well? Didn't we export it properly? Did it only start in America after the South Park episode highlighted that gingers have no souls?

Also I don't believe that the ginger-hate comes from any historical time, I think ginger kids just look weird and get picked on as a result.

It was one of the few smart decisions I made in my 20s. As the date grew near, the more I sat motionlessly and thought about our future, particularly her love of kids. What kind of asshole would I be if I lied and told her that I loved the idea? I'm now well in my 30s and still don't want children. I don't want to kick random kids on the street or use them as cheap labor; just don't want one of my own in the same way I hate my Verizon contract. Maybe I just hate diapers, I dunno.

You can always part ways with a spouse. You can't cleanly part ways with a child. I can't handle that.

The good news is that we're still great email friends. We live in different time zones and make playful threats to visit one another for a great night of teh sexy-time replayed in various ancient hotel rooms canopied by maple trees and mint juleps, but we're really just two folks who took different paths at the fork in the road. She has a baby girl now, and is happy.

That's what matters.

But godDAMN do I miss farking her. Sorry, it's tough to be a gentleman when talking about real redheads. Bonus: She was supermodel tall with that alabaster skin. Some sort of vision to behold. Slept like an angel.

So back to the article..

Instead of heralding the fact that a children's movie has a strong female lead who takes matters into her own hands, and refuses to be forced into marriage because of convention, this writer bemoans the stereotype of "the fiery redhead."

I think there are far worse things in movies to get upset about.

I think, at the heart of it, it is envy.
I wish my life was so free of real, pressing, immediate problems that I had time, energy, and inclination to write articles like that, and to be bothered by matters of that magnitude.

While there's more than a grain of truth to the stereotype of fieriness when it comes to redheads, it's also true that there's more than even money on there being a certain amount of mental imbalance to go with that fieriness. Been married to a redhead for almost 20 years now. As for the Brits' disdain for "gingers", it's only because they are almost certainly Irish.

I never saw that at my school. I guess because there was only one red headed boy and he was like farking 7 feet tell in 8th grade. So I never knew picking on red heads was a thing. Kids come up with silly shiat to make fun of but hair color? That's just retarded.

Kids are kids. The little shiats will take out their frustrations on anyone using any excuse.

Tat'dGreaser: hubiestubert: Me neither, and I like redheads, but I think that it has something to do with the eyes. Just nothing really there.

I don't understand, out of all the pictures you posted she's an actual redhead. She's a beautiful woman. She f*cks like a champ. I don't get it.

Is it because "redhead lovers" are actually just attracted to a color and an idea and not the real thing?

You might want to scroll up. I didn't post her pictures, because I don't find her appealing. That doesn't diminish your appreciation for her, but I don't share it. I like real redheads, but I don't draw a line about gals who dye their hair, because I like gals in general. In part, it has to do with her expression. I like gals who are fun, and the gal just always looks like she's on the job.

swahnhennessy: I do not like Faye Reagan and can't understand her appeal.

I think she does a very good job of finding quality people to work with. She works with a small sub-set of male performers who don't look like they just got out of prison and her girl/girl scenes are generally longer and more... intimate-looking. She plays the ingenue very well, which is a different attitude from what most people are expecting out of their porn chicks.

I like blonds, brunettes, gals with blue hair, and streaks of colors not found in nature. I don't find that particular gal attractive. Then again, one of my favorite models is London Andrews. Something about her smile clicks with me. Ms Reagan just doesn't. You like her? Knock yourself out. Felicia Day? Hells yes, but part of that attraction is the attitude, how she carries herself. Same with Kari Byron. Same with Kristen Bell. Same with Janina Gavankar. Indira Varma. Or Gina Torres. Or Amy Acker. Not just the physical proportions, but how a gal carries herself. Ms Reagan, doesn't really do much for me. That's not an indictment against you--or even her--I just don't share that.

Proud to be a daywalker here - brown hair but loads of freckles and my beard and body hair is quite red. I do know someone who has red hair that's red, not the orange ginger but some unnatural color along with the appropriate freckles. All of the women in our circle of friends first thought she dyed it (henna, etc), but it's definitely her natural hair color. Almost never seen it on anyone else, tho...

Scotland, especially 500 years ago, was full of redheaded remnants of their viking predecessors. so this chick needs to relax and start enjoying being special.

My ex-wife used to get mad when the sun bleached my hair towards red. Worse, it started to curl when it hit about 6" or so. She was bitter that my hair did naturally what she paid folks to do to her hair. I think she got more bitter when I cut it all off...

You are most likely correct and I'd like to subscribe to your newsletter if you have one available.

My coworkers know I like redheads, so when we're out for lunch or after work they'll point out every woman who has even a remotely red tinge to their hair, natural or not. It gets annoying because first, it's not like red hair is a prerequisite for me to find someone attractive, it's a bonus. And second...most of the time it's not even real red hair, and usually pretty clearly so. I mean honestly, pink guys? NTTAWWT, but it's clearly not red.

I was regularly farking a redhead in high school. Great sex but she always wanted to do it without any protection. After I broke up with her she claimed she was a preggle for a month. She wasn't. She did get pregnant later though by some other dude that looked like me. And I was the first to fark her after her abortion. So it kinda worked out pretty well for me as I never had to pay for the abortion, just had the crazy pre and post abortion sex.

Close2TheEdge: So back to the article..

Instead of heralding the fact that a children's movie has a strong female lead who takes matters into her own hands, and refuses to be forced into marriage because of convention, this writer bemoans the stereotype of "the fiery redhead."

I think there are far worse things in movies to get upset about.

Pixar films are some of the very, VERY few movies I'll pay to see in a theater. They're usually quite entertaining, so I'm even willing to go to one I'm not sure about.

I'll probably be buying tickets for a later showing tomorrow night- the 9pm and later showings of what amounts to a movie aimed at kids tend to be more tolerable.

Adopted children can turn out just as normal as other children, but the probability is less. Some never get past the fact that their biological parent(s) didn't want them. My oldest sister is one of the FARKED up ones. But she is also racially mixed, which prob didn't help either.

The My Little Pony Killer: It would have been funny to see them blow a gasket about Ariel. Teenage girls gonna act like teenage girls.

Disney animator Glen Keane was under considerable pressure to make Ariel a blonde during an early production development meeting for The Little Mermaid.

Jeffrey Katzenberg apparently said, "All mermaids are blonde," citing the studio's then-recent hit Splash. Mattel reps weighed in with "Girls won't play with red-haired dolls; they prefer blondes".

Keane finally got his way when he countered them with: "Listen -- Ariel defies her father, makes a deal with the devil, and chases her man from the depth of the ocean to dry land, just to spend three days near him. That's not a blonde -- that's a redhead!!"

A true, natural red is VERY hard to get by dying. I've tried numerous times.

Anyway, inmho, dyed red hair does not equal red head.

As long as the red hair is long. For some kind of reason, red seems to be the dye of choice for greying hairs 'round here. So any red 'do that doesn't cover the ears is getting me seriously into whatever's the opposite of oedipal reactions.

/Is Gianna Michaels still fake-red? If yes, she gets my vote.

Now that I am done typing, I need to go back to what I was doing.........................

Oh and I married a Red Head, yes it is all true, yes I am luckiest many on the planet.....

mentallo69: Lollipop165: I realize some boys have a thing for red heads, but as a female I can tell you that 97% of the women posted on this thread are not true red heads (particularly the porn stars and the burlesque girls - almost all of them are natural brunettes).

A true, natural red is VERY hard to get by dying. I've tried numerous times.

Anyway, inmho, dyed red hair does not equal red head.

I can tell you as a guy, who looooooves redheads...We dont care!!! Any shade of red will do!

Redhead huh? How you doing? :)

So it's not about the red head experience, it's just the color. You don't actually like red heads, you just like pretty women with the right hair dye.

As a (former) red head (now mostly grey, sigh), I appreciate the color, as long as it is close to natural. Don't care too much if it came from genes or a bottle, it is a shade I prefer.

My father's mother's family was the same way. My grandmother was a red-head who married a brunette and had a brunette son, who's daughter (me) was a red-head, but he also sired two blondes and a brunette as well.

I'd say it is tucked in there somewhere, just waiting to meet the right set of alleles to pop out in one of your kids.

I'm pretty sure the disdain for redheaded men is beyond semi-serious in Britain and it's leaked over to the U.S. I assume it has something to do with conflicts in Ireland...
But pay attention to redheaded men/boys in movies. They're almost always sneaky or craven or have some other negative primary characteristic. Someone should do a study. It's almost as prevalent as the dumb dads trope in advertising.

Robert Redford and Rupert Gint beg to differ, as do Benedict Cumberbatch, Kenneth Branagh, Seth Green, Eric Stoltz, and Damien Lewis.

We don't want to own David Caruso, but we sort of have to.

About the only red head I can think of who get regularly cast as bad guys is Toby Stevens.

oh trust me. i KNOW what i'm avoiding and i'm glad i'm avoiding it. the italian girl i dated... omfg what an amazing body, face to fall in love with, legs that perfect and went on and on till they made an ass of themselves, breasts you could worship... but OMFG WHAT A biatch. in so many damn ways. entitled, nosy, short-tempered, arrogant, mouthy... holy fark. i got into more fights because of her than i ever did when i was a drinking sailor.

redheads... fun to look at, aye. some guys like the 'fire' personalities... some guys also like having fat women step on their balls.

i'm not one of them. bossy, stuck up, princesses, more often than not.

now, my wife, she's very much an alpha-type person, as am i. we butt heads a lot. she may have a temper but it's nowhere near as volatile-explosive/dangerous as a redhead's and far less passive-aggressive than an italian's.

now, a hispanic girl... they might be a little nosy, maybe get in your face about stuff from time to time, but holy crap you will never have a girl as loving, willing to defend your honor, or as willing to get ALL UP in another girl's face for you.

Yes. Redheads are truly mysterious. They're not like other women. Because of a genetic quirk, they rise up above all the rest...

I like redheads. I like brunettes. I like blondes. Dated my fair share of Irish, and Italian, and French, and currently a gal who's Irish and Navaho. All women have their own mystique. Indian, Hindu, Jewish, Irish, Scottish, Japanese, Chinese, Cuban, and more. Guess what? Mostly, that "mystique" is just them, and what their families raised them up in, and what they had to overcome and what they excelled in.

Redhead isn't magic. It's attractive on many gals, but it's not a magic pass. Just like my mother's people don't have magic sideways snapping punani. Japanese or Chinese isn't magic. Thai isn't magic. Filipino isn't magic. And if you're rolling on your mystique because of a quirk of nature, then you're missing the damn point. Be you. Be the best you you can be. Be funny. Be brave. Be honest. Have fun. Enjoy yourself. THAT is sessy. Not the hair color. If you just want to stand out in the crowd on physical traits alone, then you're just a piece of wood.

Be a real damn woman. Gals who are dying their hair are poseurs? That or they're just not wedded to being a stereotype. Maybe they're having a good time. Maybe, just maybe, you should worry less about what other folks are doing, and live your damn life, and stop worrying about the happiness that others might "steal" from you, because THAT thought is far more messed up than a gal with a bottle of Manic Panic and some henna. That bespeaks issues, that have nothing to do with haircolor, but your own insecurity issues.

The world does not have a set supply of happy and if other folks are having a good time, that doesn't necessarily decrease the general supply.

Because Manic Panic is obviously trying to trade in on the natural Emergency Blaze Orange heads out there? How about the women who go all the way to black? Totally biting my mother's people's style? Or just have a thing for dark hair? How have you been hurt by some rockabilly gal going Faux Red? Do the tattoos hurt you too, because they mock you? Redheaded singers in symphonic metal bands is something I can definitely get behind.

I personally would welcome more redheads, a greater presence on the stage of humanity would be nice.

That said I think a lot of the "ginger" hate in the US that's picked up over the last few years is just cowards who are looking for a group to hate that is socially acceptable to shiat on.

Hypocrite.

Does someone going straight edge mock you because you still drink? Does someone who drinks just cramp your style because you don't hang out with them, don't date their friends, and don't drink?

Reeeeeaching.

It not a matter of not liking what you like.

When I get to a PC tomorrow, I know I can pull up at least one article about how red, of varying shades, has becomethe most popular colour for a woman to dye her hair because it donates wildness and sexual liberation/agression. Guess what? Thats the red head personality mytique going back to the middle ages.

Even the extreme examples you cite, which are clearly in the minority, they could have dyed their hair green, as a friend of mine did, blue, purple, but they went red for the colour's association with sexual agression.

And then you claim that redheads have no mystique, but you have now been on this thread posting pictures (not personalities), and arguing that the dyed red heads you like are the same as those that were born with it.

So if I am crazy for arguing this point, so are you. The difference is my argements are not based on hyprocritical.

Nor did I feel the need to start rabidly spewing ad hominems to defend my point.

Dye jobs are not the same as the real thing, just like fake tits don't feel like real ones. No matter how natural they look, there just something not the same on the inside.

Oh, my point was that you have been on here for hours arguing this, getting pretty upset and childish over it too. I am a red head, so my interest is clear. If red heads have no mystique, what are you doing here for so long? Why are you so passionately invested? Why don't you hang out on a brunette thread? Oh wait, there aren't any.

Lollipop165: I realize some boys have a thing for red heads, but as a female I can tell you that 97% of the women posted on this thread are not true red heads (particularly the porn stars and the burlesque girls - almost all of them are natural brunettes).

A true, natural red is VERY hard to get by dying. I've tried numerous times.

Anyway, inmho, dyed red hair does not equal red head.

My ex-girlfriend tried dyeing her hair red once for me, because I'd said she'd might look good as one.

She obviously did ti wrong (she was a natural brunette, but liked to bleach her hair blond), as it came out this unexplanably chartreuse/green/WTF kind of odd color. She cried about it for a few days, thinking it would never come out. I assured her it was okay, and I appreciated the effort. She immediately went back to bleaching her hair every so often, but then, somewhere along the way, decided to stop the bleaching and just went back to being a brunette.

There are times when I miss her...but I know my aim will improve...

These aren't insults. You seem to be taking choices personally. Yeah, I kind of feel bad that you seem invested in other folks' hair choices. Like it somehow affects you personally. That's not arguing, that's making a notation, and pointing out that it ain't healthy. You're invested, I get that, but I think you're reading a lot more into this exchange. Also I don't believe that the ginger-hate comes from any historical time, I think ginger kids just look weird and get picked on as a result.

Genetics are earned?

Personally I don't care if their hair is red, blonde, brown, black or dyed some funky color, hot is hot. I just see a few women folks getting all butthurt because some women take steps to bypass what the genetic lottery gave them and some guys like it.

Every woman is unique. And growing into your features is a huge part of growing up and discovering yourself. Whether it be boobs or hair or whatever, "buying" these items feels a bit like cheating to those who had to grow up learning how to deal with their natural features.

If you had a 12 inch schlong since you were a kid that made you embarrassed, but you grew up and learned how to enjoy your 12 inch schlong, wouldn't you be a little pissed if every other guy could just purchase himself a 12 inch schlong at age 20 and get all the benefits but none of the learning experience?

Why? It's other people, most of whom have nothing to do with me. If I personally knew someone who did such a thing I might give him a little friendly bullshiat about it but it's his life and his decision, one which has no bearing on me what so ever. I have naturally curly hair, and if I let it grow long the way I did when I was young, it has a tendency to puff out and look like a big puffy 'fro, and of course I was picked on regularly for it. I dunno if I would say I enjoy it, but some women tend to like it, and I've long since come to terms with it. Does that mean I should be upset about people using curlers and getting perms to make their hair curly? For what reason? How does someone else's decision to make their hair similar to mine effect me in any way, shape or form? The answer? It doesn't.

How in the heck would someone else having a schlong like mine really matter to me? Unless they're in bed with me, it's none of my damn business. Do I fret if other guys shave their heads? Not so much, since I'm not going to be sleeping with them. Red hair isn't a badge of honor, it's aesthetics. What is uncomfortable is when folks fetishisize features. Demand that they only be "pure." That's your thing, fine. Demand that your partners be pure, but insisting that everyone share that particular fetish, that's a bit creepy. As creepy as insisting that everyone be straight. Or gay. Or share your love for only big boobs. Or only tiny boobs. Or no tattoos. Or nothing but tattoos.

It gets you off? Fantastic. Go with that. What my point has been, and still is, is that the jealousy over what others choose to do with their hair makes zero sense. Or what other folks who aren't sleeping with you happen to like.

Do what you want in your own relationships. Drive on. Only guys with X amount of schlong, Y amount of facial hair, but complaining that others don't share those particulars, and worse, that others happen to like something different, that edges into some creepy and weird territory. I'm not pure enough for you? Fine. I'm good with that, but you might note, I am not the one condemning folks for their choices, only commenting on their prejudices...

Um, posting on Fark, not making a diatribe.

But for arguement's sake, I'd say that one could say that it dilutes the "specialness" of whatever feature (this case being red hair) to just be able to purchase it.

At least, that's the way a lot of women feel.

I understand your point and I understand why a lot of women feel that way. I just think is not a very healthy train of thought.

I don't think that dyed hair dilutes what is special about natural redhair the same way that breast augmentation doesn't take away from natural big breasts.

Under those considerations, wouldn't make natural redhairs (or big boobed women) even more special?

I mean, other women have to PAY for what was granted you by nature/genetics/god/gods/good air/the boob or hair fairy.

I have naturally mousey blonde hair. There is nothing to be proud of in that, it is a dull, common and boring colour. It is not something to be proud of at any point in life, no one will ever comment on anyone's lovely mousey hair at any age. I dye it red, not because I want to be perceived as sexually adventurous, but because I like the way it looks.

While I agree that natural redheads are better than the dye jobs, I didn't win any genetic lottery, so I am going to make use of whatever science has come up with to help me out. What next, stop wearing mascara it takes the advantage away from those who have naturally thick lashes? Or do you have to have been picked on at school for a characteristic before you are allowed to enjoy it in later life? Well kids pick on other kids all the time over all sorts of things, what is more, most of those characteristics are not going to result in any sort of bonus aura of mystique or any other sort of pay-off for those kids later in life. If you are a natural redhead count your blessings and take it as a compliment that so many people want to copy your colour.

What I am hearing is "everyone else please stop trying to be like me, it prevents me from looking special if you all look like me". Well, I am not interested in changing what I do just because someone else thinks it doesn't let them get to be quite so special. As long as dying my hair a colour that I like gives me pleasure, then I am going to keep doing it.

In any case, all I am saying, which many people seem to take as some sort of personal attack, is that it irks me and its not the same as being the real deal. And long screeds are not going to change that.

BTW, my best friend in High School had mousy brown hair. She got it styled nicely and looked awesome. She didn't feel the need to change the colour.

swahnhennessy: skinink: Why, good morning, Faye Reagan!

I like red heads.
I like freckles.
I do not like Faye Reagan and can't understand her appeal.

This. That slack-jawed look of hers just weirds me out.

MickCollins: The English disdain for Gingers is pretty simple. Most Gingers are Scottish,Irish or Welsh. English people have traditionally treated those groups like shiat. Mocking them for being Gingers allows you to make fun of them and not be called a bigot.

I don't buy that at all. Firstly because as a kid no one taught anyone to pick on gingers, it just happened naturally, secondly because non gingers in Scotland and Wales also pick on gingers. The English disdain also happens in every other country. I don't believe the English dislike for earlier inhabitants on their land led to such a pervasive dislike that transcends time and place and has spread to every corner of the world.

They just look weird as kids, that's all. Some people grow out of it and accept them as people, some find that difference alluring and grow up to be redhead fetishists, and some people never grow up and keep bashing them.

katerbug72: My 18 month old son just pointed and laughed his butt off at that picture. I'm not sure how I should feel about that. Are those hot dogs or breadsticks?

I don't know to be honest, however see if your 18 month old son can prove or disprove my above hypothesis. Did he laugh because the ginger kid looked funny, or because he was hungry and liked the sight of food?

KiplingKat872: O.K., #4 maybe real. But I think Tat'dGreaser:'s point is made.

It's the idea of the thing, not the real thing that *most* men want.

But I have encountered some real red-head connoisseurs, usually men in their 40's and 50's looking for a exciting ride, and mature/mellow enough to handle it.

I'm definitely looking for the real thing. I've been a fan for 25+ years and have never managed to make it happen. I was friends with a lovely redhead in college but it didn't work out, and I've not found myself with an opportunity since then. But with recent changes in my life, by golly I'm ready to go out on a limb and not be passive about it anymore. How YOU doin?

I posted one comment, I admit I tend to ramble, but it seems a bit much to me to describe it as "so defensive". Honestly I've dyed my hair shades of blonde and brown, I just happen to like the red shades best.

I agreed bottle-red is not the same as the real deal. It doesn't look the same, eyebrows, lashes, skin tone, even eye colour wont match the way it does for a real redhead. But then bottle-blonde, bottle-brunette or any other colour that alters a natural one is never going to be as good as the genuine thing. Maybe you should really pity us copiers for not ever being able to have what you have naturally. No matter how many bottle reds you are ever surrounded by, you are still going to stand out by being the real deal.

It does seem an odd thing to be irked by. I wouldn't get irked by anyone dying their hair mousey blonde, I'd be thrilled that my natural hair colour was suddenly considered desirable. But then everyone is different and everyone will have their own likes and dislikes. People will do things you don't approve of, people will do things I don't approve of, lots of people wont give a damn.

But go ahead and be irked all you like. I'd prefer to find reasons to not be irked, but that is just me. I've rambled again and you will probably just think I am now irate or something, which was not my intention.

Agreed. A red carpet is my holy grail.

hubiestubert: I like redheads.

They're all pink on the inside.

He definitely wasn't hungry. My kid and food don't have a great relationship. He also jumps when Conan jumps and laughs at his string dance. Maybe he thinks gingers are funny.

We're red heads, we're kinda like that. ;) This is just "irked," you should see me when I'm dealing with politics. Then I get to "enraged."

Pax.
