Commins said blood levels of antibodies for alpha-gal, a sugar found in red meat, lamb and pork, rise after a single bite from the lone star tick.

What drama queens. You can still eat chicken, you know.

I had no prior compelling reason to ever go back to any of the states with the Lone star tick but now I can even give a good reason in decline to visiting ever again. Meat is part of every meal otherwise it is a snack.

I won't be able to eat bacon anymore? Then I don't want to live anymore.

P.S. I'm taking those little f*ckers with me. KILL ALL THE TICKS!

That "terrifying tick bourne disease" JUST HAPPENS TO BE MY WIFE!

- Sorry, at this point it types itself. A compulsion if you will. Do you realize the self-loathing that goes into that as an unmarried anally-curious and frankly gullible teenage girl that just happens to have a wishlist?

So what they're saying is, that little area in western Oklahoma really needs Lone Star Ticks?

But then HOW CAN YOU HAVE ANY PUDDING?

2012-06-21 02:23:39 AM
Oh crap, that explains my random symptoms from all cow products and the timeline fits with a really bad bite I got. They could be coincidental events but this was a really odd thing to have happen and in such a short time.

I really hope that means there is a cure for me.

Keep that shiat away from the PNW, thanks.

Isn't it ironic that a tick named after Texas makes it so you can't eat red meat?

2012-06-21 02:34:15 AM
Euthanasia should be an option here. This is far from humane letting these people live.

/or just take some Benedryl and solumedrol before eating :)

Bathia_Mapes: I blame PETA.

Imagine if they weaponize it? Hell that is a WMD right there. We should probably invade PETA then. Put an end to it before they turn us all into Hippies.

Lukeonia1: that little area in western Oklahoma

It's called the pan handle.

It got it's name because all of the idiots that burned themselves from grabbing the wrong part of the skillet while cooking got kicked out of Texas and were put there.

Florida has one too, it's for the idiots that got kicked out of Georgia.

Clearly they have been engaged in the development of biological weapons. We must declare them a terrorist organization and lock them up in GITMO!

Weaponzing this disease was my first thought to be honest. I could easily see some crazy person out there salivating over the thought of people not being able to eat meat anymore.

The only response that could be made would have to be a complete nuclear strike.

Or to respond with a similar bio-weapon that gives you all non-meat allergies instead.
See how the buggers like THAT instead.

The tick bites its victim, ultimately forcing the host to kill itself, then breeds its devil spawn in the unholy body of the host.

It is irrefutable proof that evolution is devil craft. It had began its life as a lowly deer tick, but accrued its mark of the devil and unwholesome powers from an unfortunate confrontation with Satan himself. He took favor upon the tick, seeing it had already inflicted fear of disease in the whimpering humans' eyes. As a blessing (or curse), he distilled part of his very soul (or soulless nega) into the mite's very DNA. The sole tick couldn't mate, and reproduced asexually, further befouling its already nasty temperament. It bites down on its victims with sharp pointy teeth, and will not rest until all of humanity is plagued by vege-tyranny, and the relevant health benefits that befall the accursed.

No, they're defective. Just let them all die.

Or make them watch while we eat a yummy bacon-wrapped steak, that should kill them.

In related news PETA to start cultivating the Lone Star Tick and releasing it in heavily populated areas.

But it backfired. After a month, those who weren't vegetarian by nature began to crave flesh above all else.

Through an unfortunate yet inevitable discovery, they became aware that tick-borne meat allergy does not present a barrier to eating HUMAN flesh, in fact, it is the only meat readily available which can be eaten.

Thus the Zombie Apocalypse is upon us.

Allergies are immune reactions to foreign substances, from pet hair to peanuts. As antibodies attack the substance that caused the reaction, they trigger the release of histamine, a chemical that causes hives and, in severe cases, life-threatening anaphylaxis.

I like how they feel the need to define "allergies" for some segment of the population dumb enough not to know what that means, but assume these same people know what "anaphylaxis" means.

I know there is a fragile balance in ecosystems and the loss of a single species can throw things out of wack, but in this case I say fark it. This animal has evolved an ability that is incompatible with man and has lost the right to exist. Let's extinct this mother farker.

I'm the licensed card-carrying socialist liberal tree-hugger here, and not only do I agree with you 100%, but if we have to use nuclear weapons to 'sanitize' the Red States that harbor the bug, so be it.

On the serious side though, what happens when one of these bugs bite an animal that we eat?
