Were you going for the most logically challenged post in history or did you arrive there by chance. So collecting FICA is stealing but paying those benefits out is appropriate because the recipient is is just getting back the money that was stolen from him or her???? Did I get that right because if so, FICA might just be the dumbest criminal enterprise ever.

That is kind of the point. Almost everyone pays into it. They're "vested" in it. I don't understand how people refer to social security as some "public teat" program when everyone who has it pretty much paid into it. It makes no sense.

My apologies for this being a ThinkProgress YouTube vid,
but it's from FoxNews, and his comparison is right there,
in his own words.

So now he's going to go back on his own words??

If he has principles, wtf is he doing taking from something
he is morally opposed to?

Here's more words.

"I want young people to opt out of Social Security," the Texas congressman told MSNBC contributor Mike Barnicle. "In my more pragmatic stands on how we get to the place I want to go, actually I'm probably offering a program where some of these programs that we have taught people to be so dependant on, I would probably preserve them longer than others because we are going to lose them because of the bankruptcy that is coming."

"Are you on Social Security," The Huffington Post's Sam Stein wondered. "Do you get Social Security checks?"

"I do," Paul replied.

"You just told younger generations that they should wean themselves off of this social contract but you haven't done it yourself," Stein noted. "You're not the wealthiest man in Congress, I'm not saying that. But you have enough means to take care of yourself in retirement. Shouldn't you provide an example?"

"No," Paul said.

"I think the programs are so designed, just as I use the post office too.
I use government highways. I do that too. I use the banks. I use the Federal Reserve system. But that doesn't mean you can't work to remove this. The same way on Social Security, I am trying to make a transition."

"I personally don't see any inconsistency in that," he added.

How unsurprising.

Like the original dingbat libertarian herself he believes himself to be a specific exception to a general rule while failing to understand that the general rule is merely a sum of many specific cases.

2012-06-20 06:57:03 PM
Ron Paul SHOULD get Social Security checks if he paid money into the system. The money was taken from him without his consent, and he has every Right to get it back as was promised when the system was implemented.

Social Security IS theft. The theft part is when they take it out of my paycheck WITHOUT MY CONSENT.

I don't care if they claim "you get it back later". You get it back later with no interest, after it's depreciated to hell from being used by the government like a free slush fund.

It's MY money. I earned it. I should have the right to opt out. By opt out, I mean pay no taxes, get no benefits. But I am STILL entitled to EVERY PENNY that was taken from me without my consent.

/obligatory RON PAUL 2012.

Taxation without consent is robbery. I wish all you people in support of tax thievery would pack up and head off to some communist country where you'd be more happy with the State owning & controlling all capital/means of production.

2012-06-20 07:06:09 PM
Hm... a summary of the thread so far.

Once the government has its hand in the system, you can't pull them out. If you do, and you use any government service, you are a hypocrite. Social security is one of those programs where you are either a hypocrite for partaking in the system (i.e., Ron Paul) or if you aren't receiving benefits yet but are paying in, you are basically trying to evade your legal duty (i.e., draft dodger). So the only people who are left who can comment are foreigners who don't draw on social security (but might be paying into it - such as undocumented workers) or minors without income. In short, the only people who can try and talk without being branded one way or another are those who cannot vote.

I suppose all that's left is for social security to take its natural course and head towards insolvency.

Gee... thanks guys?
