One more time and the dad would have been working the definition of insanity into the ground.

Had I done that TWICE I wouldn't be here posting this now.

My father would have slapped me after the first time and yanked me through the window and beat my ass after the second.

Here comes the Internet Tuffdad thread about how you would have yanked the kid out of the car and beaten him to an inch of his life

- or -

that's what your dad would've done to you, what's wrong with kids these days, etc.

My dad would have smacked me, called me stupid like my brother, and we wouldn't have eaten that evening. The next day however, he would have given my brother and I money to go play Galaga at the Open Pantry.

There is no father in the world who would get tricked that many times and there are belts and fans that could take fingers off.

But anyway, I did do something like that to my dad a few times over the course of my childhood.

"pump the brakes..ok hold it down..pump the brakes..ok hold it down..ok hold on a sec and let me top off the brake fluid" *dad leans over the fender*

"HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONK!"

My dad had me "test" a spark plug with my hand. I would have been much more likely to be the person getting shocked.

My Dad used to check for live electrical wires by licking his fingers quickly brushing them across a hot lead. The trick is to use enough spit so that the electricity flows through the water and not your fingers. I usually just took his word for it on these occasions...

It wasn't the smartass son's fault, it was the dumbass mother in the backseat telling him to do it so she can film it and get a funny video.

I've been driving for 30 years, and I have never had a situation where somebody had to turn the key while I was touching electrical wiring. This includes jumping a faulty solenoid on a starter with my bigass flea market screwdriver on my '77 Malibu.

If that were me as a kid, my dad would've waited until the second time then released the rape clowns before a third time was possible.

Like most FARKers in this thread, the magic number would have been everything ending after the 2nd time. Dad would have made me put my hand in the car to get shocked while he sat and laughed from the front seat yelling, "Not so funny now is it?!"

Reminds of the time my son hit the key on the 1969 Dodge Dart while I has attempting to set the points. I recalled that he almost welded my Jimmy to the front passenger fender. Chased his little ass down the street for half a block.

Damn, now that's funny.

But no, I wouldn't have been allowed past the first mistake.

Well... You know, had I done that once, my old man would have laughed his ass off. Indeed if I had done that twice? Belt would have been off.

As far as my being a "tuffdad"... Don't need to be. If I had told my daughter "Look, turning that will give me a nasty shock and it would hurt", she would have kept her hand the hell away from the keys until I said. Not because I'd whomp her, since she knows I wouldn't. But because she's not a miserable little shiat like those two, and because I raised her right.

*shrug*

Those two little farks are going to grow up to be spectacular human beings if they think doing that to their old man is funny.

2012-06-20 10:23:57 PM
I'm 100% against physical punishment of children, both because it's wrong (it was the way I was raised), and because it's ineffective.

However, if this is real, he had to have known that, on the second time, it was purposeful (dammit, the kid was laughing), and at that point, it's not a physical punishment, it's a response to an assault. Just a quick little chop to the throat to make him gag for a bit...and I would lauuuuuuugh...

When my dad was a kid he was asked to help my grandpa with the electric fence on the farm. Grandpa told him to turn the power on when he waved. Well, before he was ready for the power, my grandpa pulled his hat off and wiped the sweat away with his forearm. My dad took that as the sign and plugged in. When grandpa went down from the shock, my dad found his older brother (they looked so much alike my dad used his DL) and told him 'dad wants you'. Grandpa came across the field and started beating my poor uncle for a moment before he realized he had the wrong kid. I think my dad stays away from that brother for a good reason. My uncle is a cool guy, but I am curious what he would do to his little brother.

/there is a long list of other stuff my dad has done
