Strangely, the grammar is perfectly correct. Consider:

The sentence is clumsy, but not grammatically flawed.

The volunteer, who police referred to as Jane Doe, was detained for about two hours but not arrested. The investigation turned to the Easters.

Police say Kent Easter was caught on surveillance video at a hotel near his workplace in Newport Beach, calling police to report Jane Doe. The couple allegedly called and texted each other before and after the crime.

Then later it says:

Tiffany Pan, the Easters' babysitter, says she's shocked.

"They're always so positive and happy, and I just can't imagine them even doing anything like this," Pan said.

I don't get why the investigation turned to them if everyone is so shocked. They must have told one of the other parents, it just doesn't make sense. The police don't just start looking for security footage at all the buildings around anybody who could possibly have some interaction with a suspect.

I'm gonna guess the cops checked the camera to see who was making the 911 call. Saw the guy, maybe got his license plate. I would imagine they have to be skeptical of any anonymous tip they get. Would be too easy to fark with people if they didn't.

More likely something like this:

Cops: Ma'am, we found these in your car.

Volunteer: Um, what the hell is that, even?

Cop: Drugs.

Vol: In my car? Really? I dunno, my car is generally unlocked, maybe check the security camera footage from the parking lot to see if someone stuck it in there while I was out?

Cop: Ha, that's weak. Hey, Cop 2, check this woman's ridiculous alibi so we're covered for the court case.

Cop 2: (watching tape) Holy shiat, she's right! Look at that stupid bastard who doesn't know that schools are closely monitored. You recognize this woman, Ma'am?

Vol: Yeah, that's the mother of student X. She yelled at me about X's grades the other day.

Cop: Huh. Hey, cop 2, have the lab see if the phone the false call came from had surveillance too, most of 'em do.

Cop 2: All right then (calls in, everyone has some coffee). Hey, you know this guy?

Vol: Yeah, that's Mr. X.

Cop: Damn, this one was easy. I should bring this up next time I'm going for detective.

Cop 2: And they would have gotten away with it if it wasn't for their pathological lack of awareness of typical surveillance techniques in place since the 80s. Jeepers.

Police say Jill Easter was upset with the parent volunteer because the couple believed the woman was not properly supervising their son.

Well no shiat sherlock. Couldn't be you expect them to be babysitters as well as your home life is so colossially farked up and full of weed smoke could it? Gotta find a scapegoat right?

Seriously, I know a couple families that are like this. Always blaming the "system" or the "teachers" for not doing things the "right" way when they have no business being parents at all and probably should have kids removed. One family is homeless and moves around town in a barely running RV with 3 kids in elementary, and another is a guy I've known of since HS that just got tossed back in prison for another 7 years for meth dealing (there is a news link, but not going to post it). Has a couple kids of his own and a crack ho girlfriend taking care of them. NOTHING is ever their fault. And there are more like them in this little burg.

2012-06-20 02:43:22 PM
This is how I figure it...The guy phoned in an "anonymous" tip... but used a land line. The address would have been recorded by dispatch. The cops simply went to the address and were lucky enough to find the guy on surveillance. He was then either identified by the volunteer, or they got his plate from the recording. Also the cops most likely did not believe the "I have no idea how it got there" excuse because of the timing of the call... Let's say dick for brains called in at 9 AM... Now you have a half dozen people standing around telling you (the cop) that she had been there since 6 AM... "Hmm..ok.. Let's take a drive over to that hotel Lou...ise."
It's Elementary.

You can be plural... "you all" or "all of you" or other such dialectical conventions are not required. (in some languages, such as German, "you" singular and "you" plural are different words -- not so in English).

It is clumsy, but not incorrect.

I am LOVING those mug shots. So very "this was a fantastic plan, and we thought it was going swimmingly...until, well...now..."

Given that she was only detained for two hours, I'm thinking there was more wrong with the story, eg, the caller said he saw her driving erratically, but if she had been at the school for a couple hours already, cops would have noticed a cold engine... or he might have gotten extra dumb and said I saw her driving erratically on X road, where X would have been a less than believable point not between the suspects home and the school. Either way,2x possession,2x distribution, 2x add-on penalties for doing it in a school zone... these people are going to see the inside of a cell for a while... Jim_Callahan: SnakeLee: I don't get why the investigation turned to them if everyone is so shocked. They must have told one of the other parents, it just doesn't make sense. The police don't just start looking for security footage at all the buildings around anybody who could possibly have some interaction with a suspect.

Jeepers.

MycroftHolmes: TheBeastOfYuccaFlats: The My Little Pony Killer: Subby should spend less time being bitter about teacher and more time applying themselves to grammar.

Strangely, the grammar is perfectly correct. Consider:

You are parents and you are unsatisfied with the job a teacher volunteer is doing...

The sentence is clumsy, but not grammatically flawed.

'You' is singlular and 'parents' is plural.

You are a parent and you are unsatisfied with the job....

would be more correct.

"You" is not singular. "You are idiots," for example, is perfectly correct.

SmellsLikePoo: SnakeLee: The volunteer, who police referred to as Jane Doe, was detained for about two hours but not arrested.

The victim IDed the couple responsible. This was a long standing feud, watch the video i linked to.

Also, according to this article, police were able to confirm she was in the classroom at the time the "witness" said they saw her stow the drugs in the car, and the witness both described the vehicle and named her specifically by name, which is sort of fishy for most witnesses to have. She also let police search her home where they found no evidence.

It looks like his name is still in the directory at his (possibly now former) employer's website, but his actual profile has been removed.

Not necessarily the case. When I was a tyke my parents (who made many bad decisions) somehow thought that they could buy an RV in California, take a family trip to Florida, move there and then trash the RV, hide it and claim it was stolen.

SlothB77: who doesn't lock their car?

Most of the time I do not, and I live in a big city. I drive two older cars (2001 and 2003) and also do not leave any valuables in the car ever.

Let's consider the economics of my decision. Consider the following break-in scenarios:

1. 2001 Dodge Intrepid, car is broken into by a crack head.
Unlocked: Crackhead opens the door, checks glovebox and car. No valuables taken, no damage done.
Locked: Crackhead breaks window to enter car. No valuables taken, broken window replacement needed ($300).

2. 2003 Jeep wrangler with soft top, car is broken into by a crack head.
Unlocked: Crackhead opens the door, checks glovebox and car. No valuables taken, no damage done.
Locked (is it even *possible* to secure a vehicle with a rag top?): Crackhead breaks window or cuts convertible rag top with a knife. No valuables taken, broken window and / or replaced ragtop needed ($500+).

There are forces in this world that want you living in fear of life and your fellow man because they profit from it. It doesn't have to be that way.

Dear A*hole helicopter parents. It's a good thing that you take an interest in your son's education and only want the best for your little snowflake. Several questions, just so I can process this affair:

- did you and hubby conspirator listen to Ride of the Valkyries on your iPods during the crime?
- did either of you consider volunteering yourselves, in place of the evil volunteer?
- would a meeting with the teacher and principal to discuss your concerns have been too much to ask?
- as you are both attorneys, have you planned what you'll do once both of you are disbarred?
- if prison terms occur (longshot, I know, as you're both attorneys) will you start a blog chronicling your caged lesbian bondage and PMITA adventures?

Noobian Noob: firefly212: justanothersumguy: This is how I figure it...The guy phoned in an "anonymous" tip... but used a land line.

I feel bad for their kids, they had crap parents to start with, and now they're stuck in one of the least functional foster services in the nation.

more than likely one parent (whichever has the least to lose) will take the charge and the kids will stay with the other. either that or go to a family member. foster service isnt the only option.

the parents might also just get rehab/probation/parenting classes. they are lawyers, ya know.

Very likely neigher is going to jail over this, but it looks loke dad has already been fired and both are more than likely going to be disbarred over this if the mother files a complaint with the Bar.

Gonna be very tough for wither to find work after this. Guys with JDs and major law firm experience applying for non-lawyer jobs raise all sorts of red flags in most HR depts.

Ha. For something like this, I doubt they are getting off easily. Not relevant though - even if the charges were plead down to jaywalking and they were given an hour of community service, both of them are LAWYERS. That means both of them are shortly out of a job, and most likely forever. That kind of ethics violation unequivocally means losing their licences for at least some period of time, but again likely forever. They aren't going to be allowed to practice law again anytime soon, which means both are now effectively unemployed, are losing current clients (and opening themselves up to suits from that), and facing a lot of legal fees themselves.

Its the perfect storm; they are homeless very, very soon, regardless of legal consequences.

corn-bread: SlothB77: who doesn't lock their car?

No valuables taken, broken window and / or replaced ragtop needed ($500+).

iirc, "y'all" is a side effect of Spanish having a single-word second-person plural and our old second-person singular (Ye) having fallen out of use. So we cobbled together our own phrase/word to make it easier on the translators.

It's in the dictionary, by the way, though it's listed as a colloquialism by most versions.

It's also a side effect of smooshing phonemes together, it happens in most languages. In Spanish "Mi hijo" becomes "mijo" and "De" contracts with just about any word starting with a vowel. French does this a lot too.

It doesn't take much for many regional pronunciations (like the classic "Southern Drawl") to contract "You all" into "y'all". I've also heard the "word" d'jeet - as in "Did you eat?".

From the video here:

The victim immediately thought that the Easters were the ones that had framed her since they had already sued her and filed a restraining order against her. Both were dismissed. Apparently, she was the head of the PTA and they thought that she had left their kid alone for 20 minutes while the kid was waiting to be picked up. The victim also had an alibi; she was in the school at the time that the tip said that she was driving erratically. Plus, the phone number that the tip came from was not the same one that was given to the police.

The police found that the phone call came from a hotel right across from where the father worked. They checked the hotel's video surveillance and verified that he was the guy who made the call.

You'd think a lawyer would have a clue about these sort of details. What a moran.

I'm late to the party, but how about this for a less awkward headline:

Parents are upset with the job a school volunteer is doing. Do they c) plant marijuana & painkillers in the volunteer's unlocked car?

Most people aren't that vindictive Flint.

Only a real bastard tries to ruin another person's career. Their day? Anyone can do that when provoked. But a whole career? Only lawyers and Republicans are that mean.

doglover: Only lawyers and Republicans are that mean.

Not even most lawyers.

doglover: Jill and Kent Easter, both attorneys, were arrested on Tuesday and face felony charges

Yeah, I hate to say it but ... who am I kiddin', I love to say this: lawyers are dicks. They're like doctors without the useful knowledge of anatomy or bedside manner.

Planting drugs is exactly the kind of half cocked crime you'd expect from an egomaniac legal beagle with a grudge. Most people would just slash the lady's tires.

Most people would be adults and deal with conflict like adults, rather than stoop to stupid, destructive pranks. Just saying.

Before the Crime: "It's just a little jail and a firing. She'll be fine, and fark her if she isn't."

After the Crime: "ZOMG!! We'll be disbarred! This is the worst possible, nightmare scenario for us!!1! Won't someone think of our snowflake?!?!?!?!"

Big_Fat_Liar: corn-bread:
There are forces in this world that want you living in fear of life and your fellow man because they profit from it. It doesn't have to be that way.

I agree. The best thing to do is to find your fellow man and kill him before he kills you.

Some days that sure is tempting. It seems to positively correspond to how much time I spent that day driving in Dallas proper.

hammettman: Irony police, arrest me if you will, or at the very least, handcuff me and toss me to the ground where I will be beaten and stripped naked and tazed, but isn't it ironic that these are Orange County republicans, and don't they love their tax cuts and their republican policies which have stripped schools of resources and increased class sizes to the point that volunteers are now necessary to maintain order?

For decades, volunteers are an integral part of every school, whether they donate time or cash. And in our Orange County school district, each student is allotted $7,400, roughly the same as nearby private schools. And to say this volunteer was "necessary to maintain order", gonna need a citation. I suspect she as a aid to a certified teacher, not a behavior cop.

Members of this political party revealed the identity of an undercover CIA operative in retaliation for an article written by her spouse, have stated that their primary goal is to undermine the standing President of the United States, and have threatened to shut down the US Government multiple times over routine congressional procedures that they had no issues with under prior administrations.

What is the Republican Party, Alex?
