Police say Kent Easter was caught on surveillance video at a hotel near his workplace in Newport Beach, calling police to report Jane Doe. The couple allegedly called and texted each other before and after the crime.

Then later it says:

Tiffany Pan, the Easters' babysitter, says she's shocked.

"They're always so positive and happy, and I just can't imagine them even doing anything like this," Pan said.

I don't get why the investigation turned to them if everyone is so shocked. They must have told one of the other parents, it just doesn't make sense. The police don't just start looking for security footage at all the buildings around anybody who could possibly have some interaction with a suspect.

I'm gonna guess the cops checked the camera to see who was making the 911 call. Saw the guy, maybe got his license plate. I would imagine they have to be skeptical of any anonymous tip they get. Would be too easy to fark with people if they didn't.
