But MSNBC isn't biased at all, are they?

2012-06-20 10:20:27 AM
so, Fox edits a tape to make Liberal's look bad, they are true patriots. MSNBC edits tapes to make Conservatives look bad, spawns of Satan. Is that how it works?

jehovahs witness protection: But MSNBC isn't biased at all, are they?

Considering the full tape makes Romney look even worse, they did him a favor.

2012-06-20 10:41:54 AM
I dunno, I never quite understood the controversy over Romney's statement. Maybe because I heard it in full context on NPR or something.

jehovahs witness protection: But MSNBC isn't biased at all, are they?

The added context doesn't really alter anything. And then they went and aired the whole thing anyway.

If they're trying to bias, they're doing a shiatty job.

2012-06-20 10:50:16 AM
So, where did the made-up quote in the headline come from?

jehovahs witness protection: But MSNBC isn't biased at all, are they?

Just towards old, cranky whiners.

MSNBC is absolutely biased. They use FoxNews' business model.

Although looking at the ratings, that business model doesn't appear to have as much traction with liberals.

2012-06-20 11:21:35 AM
Good, so we're all agreed that we're going to crack down on out-of-context quotes this election season? Awesome.

2012-06-20 11:22:09 AM
Why didn't they show the whole thing? Because it turns out audiences don't like being bored to death.

2012-06-20 11:22:30 AM
So wait... a network ran part but not all of a segment, but didn't edit it to make it sound worse than it was - simply only ran the part they were interested in, to draw attention to something they disagreed with...

how is this bad?

2012-06-20 11:22:31 AM
Maybe they edited it so we wouldn't have to listen to Mittens drone on and on.

2012-06-20 11:24:45 AM
It's not like they edited out the parts that made Romney look good; they probably edited it so their viewers wouldn't go to sleep looking at the whole thing.

Hey subby, I thought you were pre-med?

jehovahs witness protection: But MSNBC isn't biased at all, are they?

They are, and that sucks. I'm always disappointed about it too. I wish liberals didn't act like crappy conservative blowhards who lie for attention.

I won't watch MSNBC because of it. I never, ever want to be associated with anything Fox News does, even passively, and even if it suits my political leaning.

2012-06-20 11:26:30 AM

Edsel: Good, so we're all agreed that we're going to crack down on out-of-context quotes this election season? Awesome.

Only when it's an out-of-context conservative quote.

Also, I love how MSNBC is just as bad as Fox News even though they employ Joe Scarborough, and for the longest time employed Pat freaking Buchanan.

2012-06-20 11:26:48 AM
I don't understand what the "edited" version left out that was important in any way.

2012-06-20 11:27:36 AM

Yes, this is the time in his day before he took his meds.

And everyone here knows JWP is subby.

It's not journalism. Journalists do not get to insert their opinions or biases. They get to report the story. Andrea Mitchell is no journalist.

Neither is Rush Limbaugh, but at least he readily admits to that.

2012-06-20 11:28:07 AM
I have Andrea Mitchell in my dead pool, her color is a little off today so that's a plus

Unless you witness something newsworthy happen with your own eyes, you pretty much have to deal with the bias of whoever is reporting it. All news outlets are biased in some way unless they are just showing raw footage without commentary.

ManateeGag: so, Fox edits a tape to make Liberal's look bad, they are true patriots. MSNBC edits tapes to make Conservatives look bad, spawns of Satan. Is that how it works?

The edited tape made Romney look better, not worse.

Glenford: Hey subby, I thought you were pre-med?

Pre-med...pre-law...what's the difference?

2012-06-20 11:29:07 AM
They edited it to make is sound like Romney was totally amazed, and therefore out of touch with the common man, by the online ordering system at WAWA. Instead he was making a point about efficiency of private sector vs. public. Also they compared this to the GHW Bush checkout scanner incident which is another invention of the msm, at least according to snopes.com

2012-06-20 11:29:07 AM
I have this idea, it's REVOLUTIONARY. Hear me out now. How about we stop airing videos of people with absolutely NO CONTEXT whatsoever and making sure that the video we show tell the whole story and not the soundbite one particular party line wishes to imply about their opponent. I know it's a crazy idea, but I think it's crazy enough to work.

// And, no, I don't care if you're MSNBC, FOX, CNN, Uncle Fred's Downhome Newcast, whomever. This has nothing to do with party lines, just honesty in reporting.

2012-06-20 11:29:13 AM
On her show today, MSNBC's Andrea Mitchell responded to criticism of the network's decision to run an edited tape of Mitt Romney's remarks about the Wawa convenience store chain, but the network has not clarified why it ran the edited version of the tape.

Because the person in charge of cutting clips is probably a bored college intern who was thinking more about how he's going to sneak into the bar later that night?

2012-06-20 11:29:26 AM
MSNBC is no different than FOX, just different spin. fark em.

2012-06-20 11:29:34 AM
They really are the FOX of the left, but without the effort of even TRYING to snow people into thinking that they're a real news organization.

ManateeGag: so, Fox edits a tape to make Liberal's look bad, they are true patriots. MSNBC edits tapes to make Conservatives look bad, spawns of Satan. Is that how it works?

Both sides are bad, so vote Democrat?

MSNBC are idiots. When someone uses a metaphor, you don't attack the metaphor, you attack the original thing. Which was indefensible - 33 pages for a change of address form is absolutely ridiculous if that's the correct rule for optometry - but that's besides the point.

2012-06-20 11:29:40 AM
"We ran clips of Mitt Romney in Cornwall, Pa., talking about his trip to a Wawa. Well, the RNC and the campaign both reached out to us saying that Romney had more to say about that visit - about federal bureaucracy and innovation in the private sector. We didn't get a chance to play that, so here it is now."

Mitchell's edited "apology.

jst3p: I don't understand what the "edited" version left out that was important in any way.

It's just that it was edited, that's apparently the horrible part. It's not like the whole "God Damn America" controversy didn't have any other context.

Neat - he ordered a sammich

Isn't that what the wifey is for??

I bet it was. WaWa's make some damn good food.
/and for the uninformed, WaWa is an indian name for a Goose and the stores are offshoots from a large dairy in WaWa PA.

This sounds like a fascinating concept.

Andrea Mitchell is still relevant? That's news.

Bendal: It's not like they edited out the parts that made Romney look good; they probably edited it so their viewers wouldn't go to sleep looking at the whole thing.

This. The news channels are only interested in short, very quick sound bites. The entirety of Romney's quote:
1) Is rather long, considering what the networks want. Hearing that man drone in his...special cadence... just begs one to change the channel.
2) Doesn't add/change much (he was STILL surprised at the screen, the context doesn't change that fact)
3) Illustrates Romney is not just out of touch but makes really, really stupid comparisons (yes, getting federal aid should be PRECISELY as simple as getting a farking sandwich. Oh wait, what happened to the fraud politicians are so quick to rail on?)

This entire situation is a non-issue. Yah, they edited the video down to a soundbite sized segment. The context changes little or nothing. They were a hemisphere away from breitbarting it. Hey Republicans, your persecution complex is showing....again.

Uh, yeah, she's absolutely a journalist. And journalists don't report every single thing a person said, else they'd be transcriptionists instead of journalists.

MSNBC...because getting reaffirmation of The Big Lie is important if you are going to keep believing it.

Which actually made him look better the the full segment, which talks about the ease of getting government assistance. Keep in mind, this is the guy who's campaigning against all kinds of government assistance, and who's party wants to cut said assistance's.

There is no basis for comparison between that invective and this non-story.

None.
