Screw that! She's not even that good looking, by Hollywood standards.

Here's an attractive actress.

dragonchild: VibroCount: She's a frowny okay looking girl whose lack of external emotion fits in with the imaginations of the teens who loved the books and want to relate to the on-screen Bella.

I think that's the formula, yes, but this has ominous implications for society. It takes empathy for someone to relate to a fictional character with depth, but this is done all the time. Was, anyway. Point is, this isn't much to ask, because empathy is an essential social skill.

That Bella HAS to be vapid and one-dimensional (as some put it, an "empty container to put themselves in") for her fans to relate to her implies they're basically psychopaths.

Psychopaths? Perhaps. And it might be simpler than that. For the first time, Mormonism is entering the mainstream. Throughout my life, I've known a few Mormons, and for the most part they were not just intelligent but also highly educated. Those I've known have a social grace which made them very good friends (with me). I fell in love with one when I was a senior in high school. Recently, the aspects of their beliefs has become a strong part in politics, but before that it was entering popular science fiction. The outcome of the recent "Battlestar Galactica" series was a solid representation of Mormon faith.

The girl I loved was as torn as all "good" girls are about sex. Still a virgin, she had normal sexual desires. But being pure and sealed in the temple for eternity to another of Mormon faith was strong. Bella wants Edward, he wants her, but the sex (literary vampirism is always about sex) requires her to lose not just her virginity, but her humanity. The use of the vampires give virgin girls a shield against the scary sex act. Think of the basic ideals of Mormon life: to be sealed for eternity so you can have lots of sex to give birth to lots of spirits thus achieving godhood over your own planet. The more wives that a man can get pregnant at the same time, the more the natural order of human sexuality is achieved (in other words, how many children can one man father in his lifetime as opposed to how many children can one woman give birth to in her life? Poligamy is seen as natural and desirable). She is bitten by James but Edward restores her virginity. Fundamentalist Mormons are occasionally jailed for statutory rape, taking child brides who are just about to start having periods... again, having as many children as possible is the basic step to the ultimate goal of fundamentalist Mormon faith.

So Bella is the Mormon solution to young women who have sexual desires that they wish to contain. Huge commitment needed before lust can take over to fulfill a godly desire. The emo vapidness is an easy urn to fill... that the actress is sort of pretty without being gorgeous goes with the way teen girls see themselves (desirable without stopping traffic)... frowny is the way most teens are, male or female (they feel they've been left a screwed-up world that they need to fix with none of the power or abilities to fix it).

Or... psychopaths all.

As an atheist, it's easy to view all religion-based actions as psychopathic.

Babwa Wawa: Aside from Panic Room, I haven't seen a single one of her movies.

She's a fairly generic female lead that's not _bad_ at acting and extremely good at taking direction and staying on the good side of the people she works with, apparently, and she's lucked out with some big hits. The comparison to Angelina Jolie seems fairly apt.

If it was all about just looking good, you'd never see the same actress in a movie twice, Hollywood has like seven billion good-looking actresses on tap.

meanmutton: Emma Watson, Ellen Page, Emma Stone, Dianna Agron, Hayden Panettiere, even Selena Gomez would be a better choice.

Um, only one of those is actually any better at acting than Stewart, and iirc Watson's pretty booked between scheduled movies and her personal life/education/etc.

Also, Hayden Panettiere? Seriously? Gonna suggest Megan Fox next?

I personally think she's pretty farkin hot...
I kinda like brooding, non-expressions on hardbody chicks.
Nothing wrong with this chick for a strictly sexual, use her like a fark doll, type of arrangement.
She'd be awesome and I'd be happy to have her do me until I was unable to walk.
That is all.

La Belle Chienne: How the fark is that even remotely possible???

Well like it or not, Twilight is a huge farking franchise and since she was in the first one, they can't do the rest without her. Getting paid as an actor has nothing to do with acting ability. It's how much money you make for someone else. And if she walks away a lot of people lose a lot of money, therefore big paycheck for her.

She looks like Jay Leno in that picture.

I think she's alright. I never saw Twilight, and was well out of high school when it came out, so I was never obligated to hate it with every fiber of my being. Maybe that's why I don't get all the angry hate. I actually quite like the Runaways.

Also, she reminds me of this stoner/skydiver chick that I used to run around with in high school. So that gives me memories of teh happy.

I don't get the hate for this girl.

1.) She's never going to be as hot as Charlize Theron, but she's way above average.

2.) She is actually a pretty damn good actress. If you haven't seen her in anything but Twilight shame on you. Check out:

The Yellow Handkerchief
On the Road
Adventureland
The Runaways

3.) Twilight - So she took the payday. Everyone in Hollywood has a few paycheck films on their resume.

4.) Any Farker who says he wouldn't he that is a liar.

Rawhead Rex: I guess not many of you scored with the stoner chicks back in high school.
I did. I was and remain a stoner so this brings back memories. Nice ones.
My wife looks exactly like Kristen Stewart will when she's 47.
And yes, that means still hot.
So fark off, nerds...or fire one up and get on board!

As a stoner chick she is fairly hittable. As an "actress" she is a double-bagger.

Well hate all you want, I think this is a a heart-warming story of a brave young woman overcoming adversity. I mean who could have ever expected that Kristen Stewart would become Hollywood's highest-paid actress despite apparently being born without the facial muscles necessary to form expressions and convey emotions?

Just like to point out she only made the most money as an actress last year, not that she commands the highest rate per movie, which is what they are trying to insinuate.

Distorting facts, how do they work?

Still doesn't explain how she managed to get into the Snow White movie with Charlize Theron. Like Weener's photo shows, she has the exact same facial expression for everything. UGH. I can't stand her.
