D-cycloserine is a DNA dissruptor antibiotic. I'll be damned if I'll prescribe that for "fearful" patients who will sue me when their Mutant-X baby is born or they develop tumors, etc. NO THANX .

The pharmaceutical industry will also be inventing the phobias for which these medicines will cure.

I have a fear of being controlled by the use of brain numbing medication such as ridalin and zoloft. Perhaps it aids in the absorption of the pubic school indoctrination program.

You_mean_Im_gonna_stay_this_color, PCP maybe .. most of what you listed would still leave me with enough rational thought to be potentially fearful

My only phobia is being prescribed a zillion drugs for everyday issues - drugs to make me wake up, drugs to make me take a shiat, lose weight, get happy, get sad, get up, get down, have no fear, get horny, go to sleep.
Blech.

2003-11-11 03:14:25 PM
This means we'll be hearing the words, "Hey y'all, watch this!" a lot more frequently.

I cured myself of a fear of heights by riding roller coasters. Took a while. Then I installed a sattelite dish on the edge of my second story roof on a windy day. The fear came back and is still here empying my refrigerator.

2003-11-11 03:15:23 PM
If this stuff does what they say in the article, I have a feeling it'll be another tool to fight social anxiety. That would rock.

2003-11-11 03:16:56 PM
Fear of phobias - phobophobia
Fear of taking pills - pharmacophobia
Anti_Freak_Machine - you're on your own on that one

Ripoff alert.

I read a few lines into the article... I guess instead of 7-8 expensive session, you have to take 2-3 expensive sessions + an expensive pill. Why not just use NLP (nuero linguistic programming). It has been proven to work in overcoming fears in minutes of session time. But it will never become mainstream (atleast not in near future) because shrinks won't get paid the several thousand dollars it takes to cure phobias the old way.

BTW, if you dont know, NLP was first created in the late 70s early 80s by a computer science programmer turned physologist.

I also appear to have a fear of checking my spelling. *blah*

Let me guess: product name is "No Fear", and they are going to give a free skateboard along with it.
I'm all for handing these pills out, so assclowns can kill themselves doing stuff that people who are AFRAID of getting hurt/dead won't do. Like jumping off bridges. Whooo! Feel the rus-SPLAT!!!

"I cured myself of a fear of heights by riding roller coasters. Took a while. Then I installed a sattelite dish on the edge of my second story roof on a windy day. The fear came back and is still here empying my refrigerator."

I tried to cure myself by sky diving. Took an "accelerated free-fall" course, which means that same day you are jumping out of an airplane.

So you take a six-hour course on what can possibly go WRONG, and it is your turn to go up in the airplane. This is not your normal airplane, but a tiny little thing where you can't stand up or even kneel up, barely room for you and your two instructors.

And of course your instructors are a God and a Goddess, they both look like they eat rocks for breakfast, and the whole way up they are chanting "We're going to be aggressive, aren't we?"

And then you have to step out on the strut of this tiny little plane that doesn't even have a door to close, a sharp bank to the left and you would all tumble out.

There you are on the farking strut waiting for permission from ken and barbie to let go and fly into the ether, but they prolong it, you are standing out there for what seems like hours. And finally the word comes, and you think "Thank God, anything is better than this," and you let go and are twirling and twisting in the sky for 3,000 feet, until you finally find balance and are faced with nothingness.

And that was the GOOD part.

side affects are, dry mouth, vomitting, and headaches...

Im afraid of all these....damnit!!

Good headline...

I have a fear of pissing my wife off.

It's happened before. It makes small children cry.

2003-11-11 03:33:50 PM
Okay, so last I left you we finally got off the plane and are facing down. Mission accomplished, you think.

Except it is nothing like I imagined it. You are falling towards the earth at 120 mph, which means you are facing a 120 mph wind. WHooooooooooooosh! is all you hear, all you feel.

Having stabalized, the two guides glide down to meet you.

This is the worst part. Despite being in a foreign environment that scares the FARK out of you, you are expected to run 10 training exercises designed to show you are competent to advance to the next level.

I am not competent. I fail to pull the ripcord at 4200 feet, due to wondering which is the next training exercise I must perform. Finally, one of the guides pulls it at 2300 feet.

The chute opens.

Because of the email I just received, I'm probably the only female to have a phobia about erectile dysfunction.

liquid courage aka loudmouth soup.

what more do you need?

2003-11-11 03:41:50 PM
and hey, 'still no cure for cancer' but we've got a cure for the -fear- of cancer!

2003-11-11 03:43:22 PM
So the chute opens.

There is nothing really abrupt, you are just aware that the chute has opened and you are no longer plummeting towards the earth.

This is the really beautiful part. Once that chute opens, you are gliding beneath an air-foil, and can go wherever you will. You circle around the landing field and when it is time to land, you put your foil into a stall and land gently on a knee.

Lesson: Don't bother with the free-fall part, go directly to the air-foil part.

2003-11-11 03:45:12 PM
supernaturaltoe, would you forward that e-mail to me? I fear I won't get one today.

2003-11-11 03:46:40 PM
Just make sure you choose the right one.
