First they came for the comic-sans but I didn't speak up because I use Times New Roman...

As it concerns identity design we all recognize Helvetica as a bastion of the rise of the practice of corporate identity in the 1960s, deployed with unrelenting passion by the likes of Massimo Vignelli and Unimark in the U.S. and Total Design in Europe

Do we now? All of us? Because I recognize it as the logical conclusion of post-modern corporate multi-nationalism within the context of the Marshall Plan and the pro-Democracy movement in general, especially as an allegory to the rise of fashionistas such as Calvin Klein and artists such as Andy Warhol.

So there.

Am I wrong? Probably. Do you disagree? Probably. Do I care? No, as long as you don't use Helvetica

Well I guess it's a good goddamned thing that I use Arial then.

I am outraged. I'm so mad I could burst.

All Sane people are Arial People.

Helvetica is harmless.

We need to focus the energy on the real enemy - Courier.

It's Gizmodo. Half of their articles are inane bullshiat, and the other half are ripped directly from other news sources.

Me neither, I pretty much just use whatever is default. Is that a font type? Never mind, I don't care.

I was under the impression Helvetica was pretty much universally loved.... but whatever.

What I'm sick and g-ddamned tired of is people using san-serif fonts for actual documents, or hell, anything longer than a sentence.

I hate having to review a document and some genius was like "Serifs are too mainstream, I want this 25 page cited article to say more about me personally.... so f**k em"

Serifs are your FRIENDS people.

Seems like most sites use Arial for a sans serif or Time New Roman for a serif font.

Although Arial has flaws, like how capital I and lower case l look the same.

Helvetica is fine, but Helvetica Neue is better. The lighter styles have a weightless beauty to them.

Anyway, one of the fun things about the documentary Helvetica was seeing the douchebag trendy grunge-type designers from the mid-90s get all hot and bothered about Helvetica's resurgence. Sorry, guys, one day you're a surfer dude lauded as a design genius, next day you're just some old fart in a big office telling the kids to get off your lawn.

OCRA-B, Lucida and Orator are all better choices for that than Courier. Hell, VT-100 or Monaco are better than Courier.

Why I Hate Armand Zitt.

At first, I thought it was just a question of who the hell Armand Zitt is, and why I should give a shriveled mummy's cock about his opinion. But, after a moment of consideration, I realized that it was much more than that.

Armand Zitt, whose only apparent credentials are that he "runs a series of blogs and publishes (Note - not writes) books on the subject," has seen fit to go on like some small, yappy dog about why he doesn't like something. He could have just ran and told his mother, but she's sick of hearing it. She doesn't take his calls anymore.

Armand does not like Helvetica, because something sixties. And "douche." I, myself am apathetic to Helvetica and the Sixties, but his peculiar logic train and menstrous screed scream "douche" to me.

And so on.

The campaign against Comic Sans was to prevent its overuse. There's nothing "wrong" with the font... it's the people who use it.

Just like if somebody sent you a message in Wingdings. You'd say, "WTF why are you sending me a message in Wingdings" not "Wingdings sucks."

That is all.

Nonsense. Take a look at any book that's not a novel. You think magazines are designed not to be read? fark, look at boxes, a billboard, or anything printed on what's all around you. Look at any piece of electronics, your keyboard, your watch, etc. Maybe serif fonts are easier to read for longer periods up close, and that's why they're in novels, but saying the printed word must be serif is a stupid rule.
