HailRobonia: I hate Mondays

I like this one. It goes quite well with his "Peanuts" ones.

I live near President Garfield's birthplace so I'm getting a kick out of this thread.

"Davis' operations are now centralized on a strip of land in his Indiana home in a 50 staff operation "

"He spends a week writing a bunch of strips at a time and doodling the panels for a team of sketch artists in his ink and lettering departments who put together the final product."

Creating a 3-panel comic is HARD. Just ask any webcomic creator today.

My mother loved Garfield, if I included a Garfield book in any package that I sent birthday/mothers day/etc. I was a hero, and more importantly "off the hook." My mother-in-law was almost as bad -- she had a Garfield phone. I enjoyed Garfield too, especially the Nermal era. Eventually, Garfield became the only reason to buy the local newspaper.

After recently discovering my old Garfield books from the 70s & 80s, I realized that cat was nothing but a complete a-hole. I suppose that's the joke.

moops: I remember the one Garfield comic where Odie spoke. Anyone else remember what Odie said?

tillerman35: Here's #12 for you: Odie never "speaks" (or uses thought-bubble telepathy). Except for in ONE strip, in which he says "I'm Hungry."

That was a pretty good near simulpost.

I like these strips where it's implied that Garfield is slowly starving to death in an abandoned house.

Not a fan of the strip. Don't think I was as a kid either (I never had a cat, so maybe I didn't get the humor as much).

Meh, I don't get the hate for marketing Garfield as much as he does. Its a stupid, tame comic about a cat.

I also had the Mix and Match Storybook, which was killer.

So remember twentysomethings, you're complaining about a license that was probably dumbed-down for your entertainment.

/hotlinked as hell

9 lives was incredible. I got it as a birthday present (why? I never liked Garfield), but read it anyhow... the Viking one actually got a real chuckle out of me. Wonder what ever happened to it.

Yes. Yes. Yes. And yes. There was a Space Cat which had if I recall some ray-traced image which was awesome.

It's all about the Garfield without Garfield now. I mean how many years can an obese pasta eating cat live for?

no, Cancer Cancerbean. Garfield doesn't have a continuing story line for more than a week at most.

Best part about Garfield is that they hid a dirty version of an edited comic (NSFW language) in one of the CGI movies!

Look carefully at that comic there, he's clearly giving an F bomb.

Isn't Garfield a wandering ghost in a dilapidated vacant house, trapped in it's own Universe of Denial?

To this day, I watch the holiday Garfield specials as a tradition. They're still awesome.

I'll always have a soft spot for Garfield... it was one of those things I grew up with, one of the few interests my sister and I shared, and I have fond memories of reading the books and watching the specials with my dad.

I even named my cat Pookie, though her physique is starting to resemble Garfield's.

Garfield in the Rough is one of my favorites. I cheered when he went ballistic on the panther to protect Jon and Odie.

It's easy to spot. Garfield stopped being funny when he was no longer a violent asshole.

Nothing was funnier (comic strip wise) that Garfield beating the crap out of Nermal.
