So he wasn't amazed by the existence of touch-screen technology, he was amazed that the private sector finally had the cutting-edge technology of a 1994-era Department of Motor Vehicles testing station.

Okay.

I see someone is going around and collecting all the shiatty Republican blogs and reporting the days talking point.

So he ordered extra meat on purpose then?

2012-06-19 09:20:14 AM
Mitt was contrasting the ridiculous over-regulation of the public sector, with the efficiency of the private sector, and used the electronic ordering system at WAWAs as an example

Accepting this for a moment, I say it's still a dumb and simplistic analogy. But dumb and simplistic is consistent with his positions on other issues. And god knows the man lacks consistency.

Now, hang on, right-wing blogs are UPSET about this one? Why?

I have no idea. The full video is more embarassing for Romney than the bits that were actually played on the news. He tells some BS story about an optometrist who was trying to "change his address" (no f'ing clue what he's talking about) so he can get payments from the federal government for work done on poor people and seniors. His main gripe is that the form is too long and it took too much time for the dude to get his totally not welfare cash from the gubmint. He then compares that to the awesomeness of private sector efficiency a la ordering a sandwich from a touchscreen at Wawas, which totally amazed him by his own words. And is totally comparable to a doctor requesting federal aid for services provided...because sandwich, I guess. The best I can make out of his message is that he thinks it should be way easier to get assistance from the federal government and that "touchtone screens" at Wawas are sweeter than a caramel covered Reagan dick. I think it would be pretty funny if some major news outlet responded by saying, "We apologize for not showing the entire video of Romney talking about his sandwich at Wawas. Those who objected to it are correct that it did not accurately reflect the former Governor's message. Here's the whole thing. Look how dumb this bastard actually is."

Why is it that when an election is coming up people tend to focus on the most absurd instead of, you know, actual news?

It's tough to find the real news when one of the candidates never actually takes a position on anything.

Oh, dude. I watched the whole video. He totally said that. It's hilarious. He makes a pointing gesture with his hand while he says it, too, just in case you didn't know what he was talking about. Judging by the few looks of the folks in the crowd, it was probably a good call on his part to clarify to them. It's also pretty clear he has no idea what a Wawas is, which I guess I can give him a pass on. I'm not sure if they have them in Massachusetts or not. I'm pretty sure they have touchscreens, though.

On a somewhat unrelated note, the Romneybot is sixty farking five years old? Holy shiat. I'm starting to actually believe that he might be a robot.

I know, right? If a private vendor wants reimbursement from the government from services rendered, he should be able to just yell out into the air "Give me money, govmint!" and one of the governments traveling money fairies will rush into the store to give it to him.

It's bullshiat that the governemnt isn't just giving out money to job creators when they ask for it.

Fantastic.

It's fascinating isn't it? His actual, literal statement is that it's too hard to get free money from the government, and we should make it faster and more efficient just like the touchscreen at Wawa. Therefore Capitalism is Good.

He looked better when we thought he was just out of touch.

They don't. It's the one thing (aside from my family and friends, of course) that I miss since moving to MA from PA a few months ago. There are extremely few convenience stores here but more mom-and-pop shops, which I like. Would be nice to have a WaWa, though, or even the inferior Sheetz instead of gas station shops featuring month-old pre-made sandwiches.

And tommorrow Romney will complain about government waste and asking why not enough effort goes into cracking down on fraud, pledging to balance the budget by eliminating waste.

33 page change of address form? Really? I have never filled out more than a single page.

Sadly, that's exactly what he was saying. He actually had the balls to frame the steps in getting federal aid as an example of government inefficiency because it wasn't as easy as ordering a sandwich from the touchscreen at a Wawas. It's amazing. This was a totally legitimate comparison in his mind: Government is bad because these guys made my sandwich really fast. Astonishing. He was better off when we just thought he was an old dude amazed by the MTO.

Sadly, there are always some willing dupes who won't ever learn the truth-because they don't want to.

Perhaps if real journalism existed in the mainstream outlets instead of the manufactured public opinion mills of Fox News & MSNBC then people wouldn't have this problem.

Yeah, fark those poor people that rely on the government for assistance!

That IS your point, isn't it? It's welfare for the poor people that use it. God forbid the government pay for the services they need!

Man that was some serious stupid, Dr.

Holy shiat, the real story was way funnier than the fake one.

Further proving what everyone already knew - to attack Mitt Romney, just use his own words. Making stuff up is a waste of time and the truth is much more damning/hilarious.

I've been to a WaWa and this whole conversation cracks me up.

Romney was talking about WaWas and his reference to WaWa was obscured by him talking about how WaWas have something unique to WaWas but Romney has never been to a WaWa before his trip to this WaWa.

It just makes it sound like a fake name, like hooha

Not my point. It was Romeny's. He obviously thinks there are too many obstacles in the way for people to get government assistance. Personally, I don't have a problem with the feds getting the information they need to verify that the tax dollars are getting to where they are supposed to be going. But I also think if poor people have to piss into a cup to get it, so does Dr. Address Change from MItt's sob story. But either way, it's clearly inefficient because he got a kickass hoagie from Wawas in no time at all.

Mikey1969: 33 page change of address form? Really? I have never filled out more than a single page.

It may be that the 33 pages was a cover page stating that the existing 32 page contract had been amended to update the address, and the entire contract re-filed with the old address struck out and replaced on the appropriate page. I've had contracts that were set up that way. It was done because someone misplacing or misfiling a whole new copy of the contract was less likely than them losing a one page form.

Also, for the record, its Wawa, not WaWa, subby. It's the name of the town the company started in when it was a local dairy.
