Back when adults had moral authority and weren't just big old immature people as they are now, one or two of them could have looked that boy in the eye, summoned up their sternest tone of voice, and IF he were guilty, his lip would be quavering in a minute.
If his answer was still a firm "no ma'am," they also would have recognized that.

But today, we have strip searches. I say the Germans won.

FTA: "The assistant principal was within her legal authority, her legal right, to do the search," Warren said. "She may have been overzealous in her actions."

Wait - it's legal in North Carolina to strip-search a child in a school without a parent or guardian present? Really? Never mind that it's the opposite sex doing the searching, never mind that the search was done without the consent of the parent or guardian - what the hell?

What in the hell is wrong with you, North Carolina?

You never think, man, that could be my kid. It's always some other misbehaving kid. It's that brat that lives next door. It's that hooligan from across the street. It's that black kid who doesn't have a dad living with him.

But if you start letting principals and authority figures treat other kids like this, then it's only a matter of time before they use that power to terrorize your kid. Maybe it was stealing today, but the bar lowers each time. Next time it will be copying homework. Or pulling a girl's pigtails. Or dropping a pencil in class.

This principal needs to be summarily dismissed. farking jackbooted pedophile.

kd1s: Wait, ten years old and in the 3rd grade? I started first grade at 5 years old because of a late year birthday. So I was 8 in 3rd grade. Now doing the math, lets say young master thief is 10 now, 9 in 2nd grade, 8 in first grade. Something doesn't add up there.

5 plus equals the age that most of the kids are when they start the grade. But kids have birthdays, so add 6 to the grade level to get the age most of the kids are when they finish the grade.

The something that doesn't add up for you is that this kid got held back one time--just once. Probably needed math remediation, which isn't that unusual, now is it?

Condone. That word doesn't mean what you think it means.

Well at least the media didn't compound the violation by publishing the victim's picture.

Oh, wait...

So if a male principal strip searched a 10-year-old girl while a female janitor watched, that would have been okay too? What the fark is wrong with people?

Actually, regardless of the genders involved, what the fark is wrong with these people?

Kids falsely accused of theft should be permitted to deliver a full blown kick in the junk to their accusers.

I am happy we all pretty much agree that something wrong happened here. Where were all you rational people for the article about the little boy being forcibly bathed against his will? It shouldn't need to be said that there at the very least needs to be parental consent or a court ruling of some kind if people other than the gaurdian are going to be taking clothes off a minor.

ongbok: Those comments from the article are incredible. It's hard to believe that people are ok with a school admin strip searching students.

Dude, it's the WRAL comments board. Those people aren't even functionally retarded. I seriously wonder how they dress themselves in the mornings.

Hi kids. I'm your Principal. Today, were going to learn about the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th Amendments to the Constitution. These are known as the Bill of Rights... Yes, Little Johnny?

What about the 4th?

Doesn't pertain here. Now the 1st Amendment pertains to a free press. But you can't post stuff on Facebook that is 'inflammatory'. That means stuff that I don't like. So you might as well forget about this one.

The second amendment has to do with the inalienable right to bear arms. But as you know, if you bring tweezers in here, you get suspended. So 2 is a goner also.

Number 3 is important. No soldiers may be quartered in your home. If you go home and the President has put a bunch of soldiers in your house, you are legally required to tell me about it. Got it? This doesn't pertain to your crazy Uncle Frank who just did his fifth tour in Iraqistan. He's allowed to sleep on the couch and play "Angry Birds" all day.

Number four is a non-starter. Not yours.

Your assignment is to Wiki the rest of 'em. I think I need to strip search Sandy. Saw her do a furtive movement. That's the only reason I need. Sandy, please go to the Interrogation Office.

You mean your minivan, Mister Principal?

Yes.

I sound fat: Not that it changes much, but...

Why did a third grader have 20 bucks at school?

Some little girl wanted to use it to set up a boy she hates for a strip-search.
