Benjamin Orr: No Bootsy CollinsNo John Paul JonesNo Cliff BurtonNo Nathan WattsComplete and utter fail
Usurper4: For you John Paul Jones fans out there, I wonder how many of you have picked up or heard him do Zooma(takes about 45 seconds to really kick in, but damn, first time I heard that groove, I just smiled)
Craptastic: No Victor Wooten? NO VICTOR WOOTEN?!?!That daft bint actually picked some decent songs with OK bass lines (most of them are very simple, but catchy), but any list that doesn't include Victor.... that's just dumb.
darch: Um guys- 2 words:"Steve Harris".Run to the Hills, though overplayed, is an ICONIC bass line and 'Arry is the MAN.Put me in the haven't-been-able-to-stop-listening-to-Clockwork-Angels-group.The Wreckers FTW!
cherrydog: calm down, kids. it's just an article of someone's musical opinion."seven nation army" was the first thing to come to mind.
W.C.fields forever: runcible spork: Have always liked Kenny Gradney's line in Little Feat's "Spanish Moon." With Clayton's congas, they set the mood. And there is my favorite Little feat tune./good call
Benjamin Orr: cherrydog: calm down, kids. it's just an article of someone's musical opinion."seven nation army" was the first thing to come to mind. There is no bass on that song... or pretty much any White Stripes song
vrax: Benjamin Orr: cherrydog: calm down, kids. it's just an article of someone's musical opinion."seven nation army" was the first thing to come to mind. There is no bass on that song... or pretty much any White Stripes songAnd yet that is still a bass line if there ever was one.
rickycal78: Metallica Anesthesia
Gunderson: Metallica- Anesthesia
One Bad Apple: MensRea: No "Peace Sells"?/failBeat me to itInstead I will nominate Infectious Grooves "Punk It Up"
WaveOBabies: Pawn Shop by Sublime.Only 12 notes but you try playing it for 6 minutes.
WhackingDay: you might as well include Gorillaz, they've got some kickass bass lines.
Third_Uncle_Eno: basically the bass in the following two entire songs:"Lucky Seven" by Chris Squire (Squire on bass)"The Real Me" by The Who (Entwhistle on bass)(legend has it John didn't know they were recording, thought he was just practicing to a playback track, but the rest of the Who LOVED his performance in it. Did it in just one take!)
SilentStrider: Oh, and I have to include The Longest Day by Iron Maiden. Amazing bass work on that song.
Archimedes' Principal: Why no 'Boogie Oogie Oogie' by A Taste of Honey ?
Benjamin Orr: While Wooten is an amazing technical bassist... I never really find myself grooving to anything he actually plays during a song.
Godscrack: Sober by Tool. Their first bass player, Paul D'Amor contributed some wicked chops to their first couple records.
shoegaze99: Surool: Sting used to get f*ckloads of interviews... more than the other members of The Police ever did.No one interviewing bass players.... durrr! Not exactly a fair example, since Sting was also the frontman. Guys like him, Geddy Lee, Les Claypool, a big part of the attention they get is not their talent with the bass -- though that certainly helps -- it's that they are the face and voice of their bands, and in many cases the primary creative force behind their band's music.
Bhasayate: How about Jeremy?
bighairyguy: And I dare anyone to say they don't get out their air bass for this:The cracks between the paving stonesLook like rivers of flowing veins.Strange people who know mePeeping from behind every window pane. The girl I used to loveLives in this yellow house.Yesterday she passed me by,She doesn't want to know me now./Come on, I dare ya!
