Clockwork Angels has some insane bass on it, but nothing that really qualifies as a simple pass line. I haven't stopped listening to the album since it came out.

i've listened beginning to end a a couple times so far. Biggest thing I've noticed is that there's a ferocity to their playing that I don't think I've ever heard before. I really like what the producer is bringing out in them.

IMO, best songs: Clockwork Angels, The Anarchist, The Wreckers, The Garden. Hmm, those titles sound uninventive that way.

I also realized listening a few times it's a steampunk rewrite of 2112.

So what you are saying is: I should buy the new Rush album...I'm glad i wandered into this thread.

Flappyhead: Unsound by the Headstones is a favorite. Nothing really fancy, but simple and clean.

(legend has it John didn't know they were recording, thought he was just practicing to a playback track, but the rest of the Who LOVED his performance in it. Did it in just one take!)

So two people are responsible for 40% of all great basslines? Not that I have any problems with any of those being on the list, it's just a dumb list anyway, what with an incalculable number of rock songs all ripping each other off here and there. It'd be just as easy to make an entirely parallel genre-neutral list but with David J in place of Peter Hook, Janes in place of Nirvana, etc. It would probably be super easy to do just as "solid" a list if you do "bands that toured with these bands".
