Shake Your Body Down to the Ground - The Jacksons.

THAT is all.

expobill: ZMugg: No love for King Crimson?

Balderdash!

Indeed, however I can't disagree with anyone brought up in this thread.

Reason #3785 of 'Why I love Fark': Diversity.

Oh Christ, I'll go, but only rock, and no particular order and with no unreadable yammering.

Dazed and confused - zeppelin
No more tears - ozzy
Would - AIC
Walking on down the road - RHCP
Faciniation Street - Cure
Squealer - AC/DC
Runnin with the Devil - VH
Milquetoast - Helmet
My name is Mud - Primus
Jerry was a Race Car Driver - Primus

Flappyhead: Unsound by the Headstones is a favorite. Nothing really fancy, but simple and clean.

Yes!!

Ugly Baby Judges You: Couldn't do a CTRL+F on my phone, so maybe someone already covered this, but...no 'Waiting Room' by Fugazi? Really??

+1.

And I'm the first to mention "Would?"

2012-06-18 10:13:12 PM
One more from the wayback machine - "We Gotta Get Outta This Place" by the Animals.

2012-06-18 10:14:22 PM

Lorelle: No love for Hey Joe by Jimi Hendrix??

Okay that took entirely to long for some Noel Redding love...

RexTalionis: What, no Under PressureIce Ice Baby?

2012-06-18 10:15:11 PM

acefox1: The ommission of Entwistle from that list tells me this list is totally pants-on-the-head-retarded.

Nothing beats the bass lines in "My Generation." You can add his sound on Baba O'Reilly, Real Me, Bargain, Behind Blue Eyes, Goin Mobile and most other Who songs while you're at it.

Alright, I read the thread a bit. Next time you get a chance, play Quadrophenia and ignore Roger. You will hear the most amazing bass lines. I give a copy of this album to aspiring bass players I run across. 2 so far

one0nine: Second, what the fark, no James Brown? Really?!

I saw a Bootsy mention earlier in this thread, but that's what I'm talkin' about. This is another of my faves -
Soulpower!

Freewill by Rush has a pretty good bass solo.

FloydA: NutznGum: FloydA: NutznGum: No ANYTHING from Primus?!?!? Fark off.

PRIMUS SUCKS!

NO, THEY DON'T

[i105.photobucket.com image 500x375]

I can't believe I missed that. I feel shame.

All the lyrics of transexuality, drugs, jiglos are kind of overshadowed by Herbie Flowers' use of two, yes that's right two, interlocking basslines.

Who the hell wrote this article? There's just so much wrong with this sentence, it's hurts my eyes.

As for the list, any article about basslines that doesn't mention James Jamerson is a failure.

2012-06-18 10:18:32 PM
Here's an oddball one for you guys...Slipknot - Confessions, from their 1996 album. The rest of the song sucks something awful but the bass line was slick.

2012-06-18 10:18:51 PM
Oh, come on... no Hysteria by Muse? There aren't many modern basslines that deserve to be mentioned with some of the great names in this thread, but that's one of them.

2012-06-18 10:19:11 PM
Owner of a lonely heart is great
but The Fish is better as far a bass lines.
Everything Chris Squire did was incredible!

The Pixies?

GTFO.

The simple fact that the writer doesn't include 'I Heard It Through The Grapevine'
shows she doesn't know her bass lines OR her music.

Omahawg: "Damn, you just can't argue with Omahawg. Ain't no denying that he ain't lying," Archie Bell said.

+1 to you

And the best songs with two bass players in them are by Ned's Atomic Dustbin:

Observe: Ned's "Intact"

One of the most tear jecking basslines ever?

The author of this article shouldn't be allowed to write anything ever again.

Whoever wrote that article should diversify their musical tastes because it missed a bunch of obvious choices. Even if this was actually the best basslines in alternative/indie/hipster rock, the writer STILL had a shiatty list.

The whole list was tear jenkem, really.

douchebag/hater: The Pixies?

GTFO.

Which version, though?

Radiohead has had some great ones...

Where I End and You Begin
Electioneering

Muse also...

Hysteria

I would put damn near anything off of Meantime up there as well. Link

Er... um.. I don't even... Daft Punk? Whaaaaat? I mean, they're cool and all, but I'm pretty sure they don't employ an actual "bassist" you know. As in someone who plays the bass? I mean, if you're going to include Daft Punk, you might as well include Gorillaz, they've got some kickass bass lines.

But seriously, the list is complete fail without at least one Rush song. Even if you hate Rush, as many do, you can't discount the skill of Geddy Lee.

2012-06-18 10:30:12 PM
These aren't even the best bass lines by white people. Sorry if someone's beat me to it, but:

If You Want Me To Stay

It's been mentioned, yet should be mentioned several times: "Feel Good" has an awesome bass line.

I_Love_Cheesecake: Anything by Morphine.

I can't believe that took so long. I'd like to point out that a lot of country music has really perfect, groovy, yet subtle basslines

2012-06-18 10:33:22 PM

qsblues: James Jamerson would biatch slap everyone on this list with everyone on this list.

And yes, it IS rock n roll cuz there would be none without Motown.

Is he not on there? Guess I won't be wasting my time by looking at the list, knowing already that it fails.

2012-06-18 10:33:36 PM

GAT_00: SilentStrider: Headlong Flight

Clockwork Angels has some insane bass on it, but nothing that really qualifies as a simple pass line. I haven't stopped listening to the album since it came out.

im afraid to listen to that recording too

2012-06-18 10:34:23 PM

AdolfOliverPanties: I have faith in the folks who posted "The Real Me," by Big Johnnie Twinkle, Thunderfingers, The Ox etc...

I was going to post that earlier but thought "fark it," this list sucks anyway.

Good on those who recognize true greatness.

I could not agree more. The Ox's bass kicks in on that tune and hair stands on end.

2012-06-18 10:35:06 PM
Really awesome bassline:

H31N0US: Runnin with the Devil - VH

Root chord bass and one note chorus is good? I never heard a catchy bass line from them.

I'm really just a casual fan. I have two albums (Punchbowl and Pork Soda) and I did see them live once, it was in '91 or '92 so I'm not so young myself. I just know if you're talking about the bass and you don't mention Les Claypool then you're talking out of your arse.
