So the "LOL WORLD APOLOGY TOUR!" is for odd-numbered days, then?

I'm sure that's what you really meant to say. But yeah, vote for the common man, Romney. Self-made, not at all arrogant. A regular joe. In touch with the people. It's not like he attended a liberal elitist eastern college or anything. Or grew up wealthy.

Yeah, Biden is a huge asset.
Yeah, a real winner.

Mugato: tenpoundsofcheese: Considering that Kerry was a C student who is a long winded blow hard ("would that it were") and Romney is a Harvard MBA Baker Scholar who knows how to debate it will be great to see 0bama underprepared.

MBA, Christ. MBAs are what rich kids get when they can't pass Calculus 2. No one is impressed with an MBA. And no, I'm not impressed with Obama's law degree either. But it's better than an MBA.

you know that Romney got both an MBA and law degree from Harvard and he did it in 4 years, right?

No, I meant to say arrogant, partly because he is, and I was responding to the Weeners. And Mitt is a rich douche bag.

starsrift: I can't imagine how Romney would want to enter a debate with Obama. It's a situation just begging him for fail. Romney disagreed with the auto bailouts, the bin Laden hit, he wants to campaign on being a businessman but he won't talk about his experience (Bain).

Seriously? I want to watch these debates. I simply cannot imagine Obama losing to the guy, and that's really saying more about Romney than Obama. Obama's pretty boring, pretty tame, and Romney is a house of cards set up on a precariously balanced table.

It'll be a trainwreck in slow motion. Those GOP debates where he just got to stand there while all the other guys onstage tore each other to shreds...that's not instructive. Romney is horrible in 1-on-1 debates. Has a lot of trouble repressing that thin-skinned side of him when it's direct criticism. Just about the only time in his 2002 Gov. run that he got in any danger was the debate against Shannon O'Brien when he ripped her line of criticism as "unbecoming" a lady. And his infamous 1994 Senate debate with Ted Kennedy was a Quayle-Bentsen level shellacking where he came completely unglued onstage. CEO Mittens does not react well to getting talked down to...at all. His body language goes all bad, his composure cracks, and he gets goaded easily into having a great big preppy asshole moment for the cameras. It shows up in small places here and there, but 1-on-1 debates are where he's consistently let himself get exposed on it. Even environments like longform radio interviews...he detects an imbalance that he's not getting treated like the buck-stops-here CEO, and gets pissy and thin-skinned in a hurry. That's why he doesn't do many 1-on-1 radio/TV sitdowns either. It's a different dynamic from the GOP debates where he's the acknowledged frontrunner. I think in his mind those were akin to a raucous boardroom meeting...there's shouting, there's flared tempers, maybe he has to join in. But in that environment he's still the frontrunner (i.e. CEO), and can keep in control of himself inside that mindset.

That self-control starts to waver when he's up against a single opponent who isn't granting him that implicit 'rank'. In a case like the O'Brien debate in '02, it makes for some cringeworthy television when his own CEO-vs.-subordinate hard wiring gets crossed up with things that resonate to normal non-CEO set viewers...like, gender roles. He certainly didn't think he was telling O'Brien to go make him a goddamn sammich, but that's how it came across to the TV audience in Massachusetts. And it's still remembered to this day.

So, yeah...it keeps his handlers up at night wondering how they're going to curb the CEO mentality out of him when he's the challenger going up against the incumbent...uh, CEO. Now, I don't think he's likely at all to have another "unbecoming" debate moment...against a black guy. He and his camp would be way too self-consciously afraid of that doomsday scenario unfolding. But it's akin to an out-of-body experience trying to get him to look natural in a "not-the-CEO" role when body language can't be hidden. This whole campaign shows day-by-day how much he just can't freaking help himself sometimes without getting upended by his inner plutocrat. They're probably hoping he's riding into October with a poll bounce at his back or something so his numbers (or the economy's numbers cutting against Obama) can confer that 'rank' to him going into the debates.

/ FWIW....I think Kerry's the debate prep stand-in because of Mass. home field advantage and being able to speak to Romney's other two campaigns where he was party nominee in a 1-on-1 debate. He was close to both the Kennedy and O'Brien campaigns. The irony aspect of being the stiff rich guy is probably just lulz to him.
// You better believe they be trollin'. Nothing MAXIMUM-trolling or anything that dramatic, but bad body language paints a powerfully unpresidential picture on a side-by-side close-up shot. And they are seeking whatever induces some preppie-douche eyerolls, sighs, etc. And unfortunately for Romney, he's proven fertile ground for just that.

AirForceVet: SilentStrider: I've been saying for months that Romney is Kerry 2.0. This comes as no surprise.

Naw, Romney is no Kerry.

Kerry's a decorated war veteran, no matter what bullshiat was claimed during the 2004 elections. And, Kerry's consistant in his political views and policies.

Romney got missionary deferments to Paris and skipped out on Vietnam. And, Romney changes his colors faster than a mood ring.

This.

That said I'm sure he can play the part.

Not to be purely an imgtroll in response -- I think Kerry's an interesting pick for a stand-in, actually. A lot of the intangibles are there; the smug fits, the cruel streak, etc.

/they're both pretty sharp but kind of lacking warm-cuddlies or hot-cockles
//mild-mannered, too -- though I would say Kerry is even more subdued than Romney (who already seems to take passivity to a kind of alien-robotic calm...)

Thank you.

That was a goddamn beautiful moment, you know. A man speaking honestly and from the heart and trying to help others cope with pain many of us thankfully don't know...

I would be astonished, effing dumbfounded, if Romney or whoever his running mate is did such a thing. Maybe there is something but I doubt Mitt has ever had to deal with something like that that he could speak honestly about. Not wishing he lose a loved one but I know damn well he never knew the sinking feeling I got when I came home from school and Dad's car was in the driveway two hours early... for the sake of the goddamn country if he wins I hope he picks a VP candidate who has dealt with things most of the rest of us have.

Spew the hate, mane.

That's right. She has no conscious. She has no soul. She would disparage a veteran if it guaranteed her side wins. Stay classy America!

tooeasy: ghare: Bhasayate: tooeasy: I'm sympathetic to Obama and his candidacy, but I'm not sure arrogance is the best approach to this election.

He's been arrogant uppity 3 1/2 years, why stop now?

I'm sure that's what you really meant to say. But yeah, vote for the common man, Romney. Self-made, not at all arrogant. A regular joe. In touch with the people. It's not like he attended a liberal elitist eastern college or anything. Or grew up wealthy.

My point was this election is going to be closer than you seem to think, and Obama should be better than the adolescent/juvenile wing of his party, lest he alienate moderates. But you keep farking that chicken with the race card bullshiat

You sound concerned, Mr. Recently-Un-Mothballed account.
