ialdabaoth: trappedspirit: ArcadianRefugee: Strictly speaking, being a pedophile/hebephile/ephebophile is just a "thought crime" thing.

Thank you for finally admitting that.

Yeah, but no one cares.

Huh. Apparently had trappedspirit on my ignore list without comment. At least not I can note him as "farking idiot".

But I'll bite for the moment: "finally"? I've said this all along, and ye olde DSM agrees. Not my fault if reactionary 'tards like you don't get the distinction between thoughts and behaviors, you farking halfwit.

2012-06-19 12:29:10 AM

ArcadianRefugee: ialdabaoth: ... you're trying to imply that "pedophile" isn't synonymous with "child molester"?

So, how many precious babies do YOU rape each day?

I'm not implying; I'm stating flatly.

Pedophilia is a clinical term with a very specific meaning that has been co-opted by the laity for use as a catch-all.

Pedophilia: sexual attraction to pre-pubescent children.
Hebephilia: sexual attraction to pubescent children.
Ephebophilia: sexual attraction to post-pubescent children.
Teleiophilia: sexual attraction to adults (you know, "normal").

Child molester: one who sexually assaults children.

See the difference? One is a attitude, the other is an action.

You may not like it, but I like to speak clearly, so I make the differentiation between belief and behavior.

The problem with speaking clearly, is the assumption that people care about 'facts' or 'reality'.

Since you care about speaking clearly, I will attempt to speak as clearly as I can to you in this post.

People do not care about speaking clearly. They do not care about facts. They do not care about reality.

They care about how they feel, and they care about how they want to feel.

Believing that all pedophiles are child molesters allows them to feel violent and superior. People like feeling violent and superior.

They like to believe that anyone who would question their violent superiority deserves their violence. Thus, they believe that anyone who would question our preconceptions about pedophilia is themselves a pedophile, and therefore a child molester.

It's a closed system. It allows no discourse.

It allows no discourse because people do not care about discourse. Not on this. Not on anything.

People want to win. They want to hurt people that they think are different than themselves, while people that they think are like themselves are watching.

No one cares.

COSTAS: Innocent? Completely innocent and falsely accused in every aspect?

JERRY SANDUSKY: Well I could say that, you know, I have done some of those things. I have horsed around with kids. I - I have showered after workouts. I - I have hugged them and I - I have touched their leg. Without intent of sexual contact. But - so if - if you look at it that way - there are things that - that - wouldn't - you know, would be accurate.

Yes, this man should testify in his own defense.

How many 25 year old female teachers have been charged with 51 counts of being a sick fark with, what, 9 different victims? You're not even comparing apples and oranges, you're comparing apples and ostriches.

WTF?

Costas doesn't want THAT kind of publicity. After all, it IS a family show. And it's not like Costas is a journalist.

Also, the minute he does, he's tainted every jury pool in State College, and Sandusky would never be able to get a fair trial.

Ok, let me try my turn as defense lawyer.

"And I didn't go around seeking out every young person for sexual needs that I've helped. "

Your honor, what my client was saying was that he didn't seek out the people he has helped for sexual reasons.

"There are many that I didn't have -- I hardly had any contact with who I have helped in many, many ways."

So, what my client said was that there are many children he has helped out that he had no personal contact with at all. My client just likes to help children and is not, despite these baseless accusations by the prosecution and a few greedy individuals, helping children to facilitate illegal sexual relationships.

These are clearly harmless comments quickly utterred on the spot; a lack of clarity, stuttering or awkward phrasing and doesn't change the inherent truth behind these statements--my client didnt have contact with every child he helped, and he didnt seek out contact with any children for sexual reasons.

You think you're cute and funny, but I still find this suspect and off-putting.

Let me reiterate: children don't understand sexuality until maybe in their 40s, and they should NEVER sexualize a child before the age of consent, whatever your State. In America, we should do ads I say above. That is all.

People don't understand their own sexuality until they're in their 40s? That's going to come as news to 90% of people of child-bearing age.

Exactly.

This is actually a surprise to humans?

Pffft.

Well. You have to understand. The thought of teenagers acting sexual towards eachother, consentually, makes certain people, like the person who made that claim, feel uneasy. Hot. Bothered. Sweaty. Dirty. The only way they can reconcile that belief with the reality they live in is to lump and portray anyone who believes differently as a pedophile.

douchebag/hater: Guess what?

There is a Harvard professor (naturally) who thinks that pedophiles are no worse than alcoholics and needed to be deal with as such, i.e. no prison, just councelling(sp).

He also said that pedophiles were 'born this way' and shouldn't be treated or held in contempt by society for being the way Nature made them.

I know this because I saw him interviewed on PBS 7-8 years ago.

As my mentally ill brother has been taught all his adult life and lives by: Mental illness is not an excuse for bad behavior.

So, to have the urges? Mental illness. Treatment. To act on them? Crime. Jail.

Just as when the alchoholic crosses the line from drunk behavior to criminal behavior while drunk (ie drunk drives and kills a family), they go from needing rehab to needing jail.

Of course you have those who are so insane and divorced from reality that they can't tell right from wrong (Andrea Yates) but that is not this guy. Although I would be okay with him spending the rest of his life in a secure facility for the criminally insane, as is Ms Yates.

It won't get him off. Wow, that's an unfortunate choice of words... It won't keep him from being convicted. The legal definition of insane is hard to meet, and being found not guilty by reason of insanity is rare.

Jerry is able to follow society's rules just fine (except the part about keep your junk away from the kids) so he is not legally insane. And even if he was, it doesn't mean he goes home. It means he goes to a locked hospital instead of prison. Which would be okay, too.

That's the great thing about Capitalism, though, isn't it?

As long as mouth breathing neanderfarks still worship football, they'll pour millions of dollars of revenue into those coffers, with which those agencies can easily pay out the civil suits.

I'll go a step further. Sandusky is sick. Whether it's biological or psychological (or a combination of the two), he has serious problems and an uncontrollable urge that cannot be cured.

Dottie Sandusky, however, can't say that. According to the grand jury report and the testimony at the trial, she was upstairs in their house while one of the victims (#4 I think) was SCREAMING for her to help, and she did nothing. She also walked in on Jerry with a kid at a hotel, and she turned a blind eye.

Whatever Jerry gets, she deserves to do serious jail time as well.

Reporters just asked the defense attorney if Sandusky will testify and he said people would have to wait and see and said "the trial is like a soap opera."

I'm no legaltician, but I think if one's client is on trial for raping little boys in the shower it's smart to avoid using the word "soap" in any context.

I think it's important to remember that everyone in this town takes football very seriously, and if people looked the other way because the alternative was believing that a cherished pillar of the community was doing something unimaginable, well, we can understand the horrible difficulty they all went through.

We need to focus all that rage on the true perpetrators: the filthy little brats that seduced our cherished football coach, and their filthy money-grubbing parents who ruined the honor of an upstanding senior and philanthropist.

Because it happened so often it became "usual."

From 5th grade on to the 12th grade I was always in some combination of football, basketball, track or cross-country. If a coach of mine *ever* went into the locker room when changing was going on, it was to deliver/collect towels or jock-straps or to deliver a chewing-out for something. In all those years and at different schools I have *never* had a coach who stripped down and hopped into the shower with the kids. Never.

THIS. Showering in a common locker room at the Y while ignoring eachother is fine. Other than that, there is no farking reason at all for an adult to shower with an unrelated child. Certainly no coach should ever shower with youth players. If for no other reason than it looks bad.
