I know, right? Why can't they just do some bath salts and eat each others' faces off like civilized people?

No. Not even a little.

Because if it did, it would never have been greenlit.

When I was a kid, I used to see these movies about beautiful, exotic India and thought the place was pretty cool and wanted to visit there some day. The women in these films (made in the late 40's, early 50's with such stars as Bob Hope, Bing Cosby and others) always were beautiful and dressed in colorful, sexy serape's.

The people were quaintly friendly and strange. The landscape lush and beautiful and the food exotic and tasty looking.

I was in my 20's when I found out they were basically mainly dirt poor, ignorant, superstitious savages with a strict cast system who had no problem with exterminating each other in an assortment of nasty, traditional ways for some of the stupidest reasons.

I also learned about how females were on the lowest end of the stick, with new husbands often killing their new brides in horrible ways just to walk off with the dowry the brides parents were required to pay. (One guy scalded his wife to death with boiling oil and basically told the cops she slipped. The cops -- male -- agreed, commiserated with him and let him go. His second wife seemed to have slipped also and died from being scalded head to toe with boiling water. Again the cops were appalled at his bad luck and let him go.)

Then I learned about the trickery the famous 'Holy men' used in their awe inspiring acts, the cast of 'untouchables' who couldn't even get care at a hospital, yet the other casts depended on them to do their dirty work -- like hauling human sewage out of the cities. Following that, I discovered the massive ship breaking business, where workers were paid pennies a day to work with no safety gear, exposed to a witches brew of toxins, stripping ships from all countries down to scrap to be sold.

This enterprise turned a couple of hundred miles of seashore toxic, but no one cared. Women and kids scrambled in the mud to collect small bits of lost metal to turn in for pennies so the owners could get every last dime out of a ship they bought.

All employees were searched when leaving work to make sure none were trying to sneak out a bit of brass or copper, which they might sell for a few cents. The workers lived in company owned 'houses' which made the slave quarters of early America look like luxury hotels and were magnanimously fed by the company for free: a diet high in cheap, basic rice, with a few vegetables and very little meat or fish tossed in.

The workers drew their rations at the beginning of the week and had to buy local meat, fish or vegetables to add to the stuff to keep from actually starving. Rice alone is not sufficient to keep a person alive and a hard working person can run into protein deficiency trying to live off it without adequate protein supplies: like meat or fish or beans.

The cute little feisty kids I'd see in the movies also tended to be close to an endangered species. No child labor laws. Plus, parents, especially the father, could kill them for besmirching the family honor in a number of ways.

This was after WW2. I was very aware of parents in the battle zones dying to keep their kids safe, often fighting ferociously with enemy soldiers and taking as many of them with them in the process.

In India, parents killed kids for embarrassing them. I guess during wars, they just tossed the kids at the enemy and ran like hell.

When I learned that the famous sex book, 'The Kama sutra' came from there, I first wondered how and then why.

That was over 40 years ago. The nation has changed a lot since then, but only in erratic ways. People still bath in the Holy Ganges River which is essentially a huge open sewer, which also serves as a burial ground -- along which lives a cast of untouchables who salvage and often eat parts of the deceased bodies drifting down stream.

Nice place.

It's a combination of dream-like beauty and hellish nightmares.

And we here in the US send thousands of jobs over there for the cheap labor costs.

Fact is: religion is based on a monomyth of human culture and "time."

We observe our world and need to make sense of it, so what do we do?

We make myth.

Problem is, our world has been hijacked by a few for the gain of an kin-finitesimal tiny amount of humans on the backs of billions...

So, take off the yoke of religion, friends, for it only serves your "Masters," no?

P.S. Let's take back our world, friends. We must do it now. Peace and Love is not owned by religion. It is owned by us. Word.

All_Farked_Up: Yes. Religion is just the excuse. That's why it's not just happening to muslim's.

Possibly, but considering that most religions were written by some primitive tribesman in the past, who's to say that their interpretation of their religious texts are more off than how more first world society interprets religion? The common thread might be that both religions were created in misogynistic societies in the past as much as they are primitive tribesmen today.

I dunno... world-wide protests erupted because some cop was a bit insensitive... something tells me we won't see the same thing over a freaking beheading, because it doesn't really affect over-privileged, middle-class white women.

Yes, yes it does.

Anyone can celebrate diversity when it concerns a dance, exotic food or any other meaningless difference between cultures.

True tolerance means celebrating those things we find to be otherwise abhorent.

So, "YAY!" for this guy.
