It was poised to become either a great place to live, or "an uncompetitive, unsustainable place where the standard of living stagnates or declines and the position of Arizona tumbles from its historic attractiveness to undesirable."

There's nothing inherently wrong with loving freedom and wanting smaller government. It's just that right now these values are being championed by the loudest, dumbest, laziest, and most hypocritical idiots ever to exist in this country.

Anyone who believes that numbers and statistics can show that a place is livable, successful or thriving is a liberal commie socialist facist. If you go ask Joe Arpaio and Jan Brewer, they'll tell you why Arizona is a great place to live: because True American conservatives are in charge, liberals aren't able to indoctrinate kids in math and science, and illegal immigrants-even six year old-aren't allowed to wander around with impunity.

Just you "lie"berals wait until JESUS returns and explains how correct True Christian Americans are way more correct than you all.

If they were smart, they probably were underwriting the fence that we built.

"What Harris didn't explicitly say is that the state has a legislature and governor who are willing to gut the educational system, harass its immigrant population, slash healthcare coverage and other benefits, and challenge federal policies at every turn rather than focus on real solutions to real problems."

Translation: Harris didn't blame these specific issues, so in order to shoehorn this report into our template--I will.

I came back to Massachusetts because Arizona is crazy.

A few decent folks live out there, and there are some good folks, but they are getting fewer and farer between...

Most of my wife E's family is in the Phoenix/Tucson area. Nice folks, but they are Bible-thumpers. Thankfully they don't discuss politics.

Your post is pretty nonsensical because it doesn't address any of the content within the article but seeks to undermine it. But just ignore "hard truths" because it works so well with everything else.

Most purchases here in the Phoenix market are due to Canadian investors buying up property and then renting them out. Flippers have also made a reappearance here. As for the average joe family looking for a home to purchase? Sorry, out of luck.

They don't need to. Courtesy of noted lefty liberal lib-media, the Wall Street (Lib) Journal:
(http://online.wsj.com/article/SB100014240527023034590045773622112985 3 4158.html)

- From 2005-2010, there was no net migration of Mexicans across the border.
- The trend has likely reversed since then, as the Obama administration has been deporting Mexicans in record numbers.
- Mexico's birthrate is ~2.1, roughly the same as in the US.
- In 40 years, immigrating Mexicans added a total of 4% (~12M) to the nation's population.
- The Wall Street Journal's comments section is insane.

And it's always served at such outrageous prices! One might pay as many as three dollars for lunch at a taco truck! This is bad news... for Obama.

We all better hope that the Mexican government has enough tricks left up its sleeve to fend off the cartels. If they manage to really throw the government into shambles, the flood of people towards the border will be insane.

That site might be a bit hyperbolic, but I can confirm that I know lots of people from here in western Canada that have bought in Arizona or Palm Springs. Personally, I'll never set foot in the state again after my nephew was beaten unconscious by cops in Maricopa county for having the temerity to not forfeit his personal property.

When I lived in Seattle (yeah, nowhere near Arizona), there was this little hole-in-the-wall burrito joint off of Broadway. Best. Burritos. Evar. For, like, $2 or something. That and a Negro Modelo was to die for.

Ah, that makes sense. Well, good for them if they're getting a good deal.

Though anecdotally, the house next door to me finally sold after three years being vacant. A local family bought it. They got a pretty good deal, too, from what I could tell. I think our house is just about back in value to what we paid for it. No plans to sell anytime soon, but that's nice to hear.

I've also heard that banks are getting super freaky about making loans, with some not even doing home loans anymore. A friend of a coworker moved here last fall from back east, and even with a good down payment and decent credit (from what he says) no bank will touch him until he's worked here a while.

Nadie_AZ: Joe embarrasses my state time and again. As does Governor Crypt Keeper.

I know what you mean. I love a lot of the things about living here: the bike path by the 51, nearby trails, my pool, the farmers market across the street on Saturdays, and even the weather (because, hey, my pool), but my co-workers all live out of state, and they only know about Sheriff Joe and Gov. Drinkinstein.

Laughed Out Loud.

The two friends I have here in Nevada that used to live in AZ have NOTHING good to say about the state.

Arizona is about to join Texas and Oklahoma on my "Would drive around rather than drive through it" states. Sounds like a shiathole.

The state is beautiful and the people are generally great. I'll happily take you up on your offer one day- thanks for that. In the meantime, I think it's important for people like me with money to spend to keep Arizona in the penalty box from my tourist dollars.

To put this in perspective, I far prefer the encounters I've had with cops in Mexico than those I've had (and heard) in Arizona. At least in Mexico, they'll fark off if you pay them to, and the price is very reasonable. Apparently, being Canadian skews the expectation of law enforcement impeachability.

You forgot a couple things:

dtdstudios.com

Source: 2012 Kauffman Index of Entrepreneurial Activity, published by the Kauffman Foundation. The 2011 startup rate for each state is based on a yearly national survey of about half a million people -- adults aged 20 to 64 who start a business each month with 15 or more hours worked. In Arizona, for example, Kauffman found that 520 of every 100,000 adults started businesses in 2011.

dtdstudios.com

So, and check me if I'm wrong, the two states with the biggest new business start-ups under the Obama Administration are Arizona and Texas?

I never would've guessed by the way they hem and haw.
