(Investors Business Daily)   In his most brazen act of pandering to date, President Obama has dangled de facto amnesty to 800,000 illegal immigrants in a shameless bid to win Latino votes. This is pure banana-republic electoral politics   (news.investors.com) divider line 162

If someone gives me a de facto right to not live in poverty and fear I can't imagine I actually care that it was for political reasons.

If I save a box of puppies from a burning building for political reasons and a photo op, I've still saved the puppies.

Just because the other side works day and night making sure any potential bridges between Latino voters and their party are burned to the ground doesn't mean anything when the other side believes something should be done differently. Specially when that sometime is so obviously right.

We're not talking about giving migrant workers citizenship for crossing illegally. We're talking about kids who have grown up in America and want to become productive tax payers.

It's a work permit. How is that amnesty? They now are on the system and we can get them for tax purposes. They don't have permanent residence and they can't vote and there is still no avenue for them to become citizens.

Talk about pandering to get votes...

"I believe in the idea of amnesty for those who have put down roots and lived here, even though sometime back they may have entered illegally." -- President Ronald Reagan, 1984.

Where was the conservative outrage when Reagan granted amnesty to millions of illegal aliens in 1986??

Well, if we start treating them like human beings we may run out of xenophobic frenzy and have to spend some time in self-reflection.

Wait, what? Who the fark wants illegals to be allowed in the country other than the illegals and a few bleeding heart libs? If they came here illegally, they need to get the fark out, bottom line.

So if they were brought here at the age of 2, spent their entire life in the US, don't speak Spanish, went to school here, made a life here, never broke any laws and just want to become tax paying citizens, you think we should send them back to Mexico where they will have no support from anyone?

Wouldn't you rather we focus our energies on the ones breaking laws and who came here of their own volition?

There is nothing more I hate than for someone to come into a country and take a job. Especially when by doing so they remove a local's ability to earn a wage and even more so when their full intent is to spend as little as possible in that country so they can take it all home to their own economy. Not only does it ass out a citizen then, but in the future as well. Why should local industry take the time to train someone local on that skill when they can always just hire that foreigner later. It sickens me to death! They make no effort to learn the local language, customs or ways of living. They sit together in their little groups and remain outsiders and they don't care. They don't care what damage they do to the infrastructure there in regards to finances because they can return 'home' at any time. And don't get me started on the swine that hire them too.

This is why I hate skilled American labor getting farmed out to do all the highly skilled work in third world nations. Wait, what were we talking about again?

Mitt's solution involves renaming the United States "Mexico." Once all of the illegal immigrants head north into Canada, he'll change the name back.

THIS. It is the discretion of the president and his directs to determine how to implement the myriad laws governing immigration. If he decides to be lax in the implementation of those laws in a limited set of circumstances, that is his perogative. If he does this to correct what he feels in an injustice that is not being adequately addressed by the legislative branch, then it is his duty.

People who recognize that expelling some 12 million people isn't a 'policy' based in reality. Take some productive common sense steps to address an issue that will never go away. You know, reasonable people.

This is just going to feed the "Democracy doesn't work" narrative coming from the right. According to which, when Romney loses in November it won't be because of the fact he was a crappy candidate (a la Kerry in 2004) and that the GOP has crappy ideas, it will be because of 'voter fraud' and too many 'non-citizens' (AKA non-whites) voting.

Book it, done.

Pure banana-republic electoral politics for a pure Banana Republic. We have no real choices aside from protest votes, and the democrats would much rather scapegoat those who do that than confront conservatives both inside and outside of their own party.

rudemix: There is nothing more I hate than for someone to come into a country and take a job. Especially when by doing so they remove a local's ability to earn a wage.

Seems to me your beef is with the "job creators", not the immigrant. If your fellow job producing Americans were as patriotic as you, they'd make sure they only hired Americans. But they don't...yet you continue to patronize them while you blame the person with the least amount of control in the situation, the immigrant. No one is going to starve because you don't like which side of an imaginary line they were born on. A worker will take the work that allows them to sustain themselves. But the other two parties - you (the customer) and the job creator are both in a position to change this, yet you wait on a government solution. Stop biatching and vote with your wallet.

Lorelle: Where was the conservative outrage when Reagan granted amnesty to millions of illegal aliens in 1986??

We learned from our mistakes and considering that many conservatives of the day predicted precisely what would happen next we almost certainly don't want to repeat the same mistake again.

Either come to this country legally, or get out. I don't care how old you are and I don't care what your reasons are for being here. You are breaking the law and you are here illegally then that is the only thing that matters. Anyone who comes here legally is more than welcome to stay. I've recently been working in an environment where English is the second language to roughly half the people I talk to.

"But... do you know how HARD it is to come here legally?"

Nope, and it doesn't matter. If you want to talk about reforming the immigration system that's a reasonable and fair argument but it has nothing to do with letting people break the law and then letting them get away with it purely and completely because you want those people to be able to vote for the political party you like. If the overwhelming majority of Hispanic voters were voting Republican then liberals would be vehemently opposed to letting them stay in the country, you wouldn't be able to ship them out fast enough and the Republicans who want to ship them out now would be making the same tired excuses liberals make now.

I on the other hand don't care who they would vote for. Come here legally, or get out.

All of this. Granted, there are Latino voters that vote Republican...but if the Tea Party keeps pushing them out the door all the time, eventually those voters will either go Dem or stay away. If you're ice skating uphill politically, telling that big a voting bloc of GTFO won't be good for your future.

"I am so excited honestly to be able to represent the United States," Romney said in a radio interview with WJR's Frank Beckmann. "I have a horse that is going to be fighting for gold in London and I am very excited about that. Wow! It has been a dream of mine for a long, long time, ever since I was a little girl."
