The article doesn't say he's claiming to be innocent. In fact, "invasion of privacy" would seem to indicate that the results are accurate. If they were not accurate, we'd be looking at a story about a libel suit.

It's a bit more complicated, but in Japan privacy laws also include potential damages that could result in someone's name or image being tied in with a crime, causing potential damage to the person.

He may be the criminal, or he may just share a name with a criminal. Either way it's a privacy case in Japan.

It's still farking stupid, though.

I did one of those zabasearch (or whatever it is) things and my name was linked with people I had never met. Two of them had moved into a house that I rented 15 years ago.

Its funny, but thats japanese society for you, they value privacy in very high regard, like, extremely. Thats why social networks have very big problems entering that market.
