(The Sun)   Hey, let's send a woman alone into an enclosure with 8 wolves who have attacked people before. I mean, what's the worst that can happen?   (thesun.co.uk) divider line 116

"Eventually brave zoo workers formed a human chain and rushed the wolves, forcing them back.

Jan Tengeborg, who organised the attempt to recover the body, said: "We couldn't get into the enclosure because the wolves clearly did not want us in there. You can't just walk right into a wolf pack."

How about, "I grabbed a couple of firearms and started shooting the killing bastards. At that time the wolves had no issues with us getting to the victim" ?

It boggles the mind that they didn't have some feeding method set up that didn't involve being inside the enclosure with the animals. Or if they did, it wasn't being strictly enforced.

/glad to hear that they're not going to put the animals down due to human ignorance.

From TFA: He said the animals would not be put down.

Good. It's nice, for once, to see that they aren't going to execute the animals for acting like their natural wild selves.

Most of them are okay. It's the one who dresses like a grandmother that you need to watch.

Yep, leans more to the "smarter than wolves" person.

The zoo's probably proud of the way the wolves were raised with minimal human contact and the resulting lack of socialization.

"A WOMAN zookeeper was mauled to death by a pack of wolves yesterday as she fed them in their enclosure"

Mission accomplished.

2012-06-17 10:39:12 PM
You'd think after the first time they actually would've reconsidered someone going into the enclosure, especially alone.

FTFA: He said yesterday: "We have to stop interacting so closely with wolves. It is wrong, the risk is too great. We must recognise they are dangerous animals."

This. If only there were some way to feed them from outside the fence.

I would think the clincher is the jackass saying "we have to realize they are dangerous animals". and why in the hell was a 15 year old girl left to wonder around in the wolf cage earlier this year.

farking swedes.

This woman was a professional. This could happen to any one of us, no matter our training and preparation.

Scary.

SwiftFox: The zoo's probably proud of the way the wolves were raised with minimal human contact and the resulting lack of socialization.

The opposite's probably true. These wolves have probably been around to many humans and lost the normal "don't attack things bigger than you" impulse.

But even still, walking into an enclosure with eight wolves is always a risk. I love wolves, but I wouldn't ever knowingly walk into a pack's den. Feed'm with a pulley and tranq them if its vet time. Otherwise leave them alone.

She died doing what she loved--feeding the wolves.

Needs "sad" headline. What a horrible way to die-
We don't know what happened-perhaps there were rules in place but zoo didn't follow them and she feared losing hee job-I've had a few jobs that ignored safety and when I brought it up they threatens to fire me

Put wolves in a zoo display, that's going to happen anyway. Put 8 rottweilers in a zoo pen and they'd go go nasty on you too, better they were trained somewhat.

2012-06-17 11:00:56 PM
she's an idiot

and there was definitely no need for her to feed them
up close n personal.

probably felt like she had a special bond with animals
got cocky.

dumbass.

nice way to die though, eh toots?

Scary indeed. Scarier still is a "professional" who would enter the enclosure of a pack of hungry carnivores to feed them. Scarier yet is the decision of the zoo not to destroy any of the wolves which have now tasted human flesh and has learned humans make great food. You know, just on the highly unlikely chance that one or more of these animals might get out of captivity. Of course, the zoo surely has a foolproof security program, right?

angry_redhead: You'd think after the first time they actually would've reconsidered someone going into the enclosure, especially alone.

Sometimes you have to go into the enclosure to get the poops.

In America, carnivores are shuttled around in into rear chambers while work is done on their enclosure. They're also double fenced, so that even if you ARE feeding them by directly pushing the bowl, they still can't take swipes at you.

It's always weird when animals that evolved to kill things kill things.
