The cult of Mitt (I"m not talking about Mormons here, I'm talking about rich white men) believe in nothing but winning -- at any cost. For most of them, winning means making money. They believe, for whatever reason, that life is a zero-sum game, and that means for them to end up as winners, the rest of us have to lose.

How else can we explain their stupid, evil economic policies? They don't realize that society -- and, thus, their very own pocketbooks -- would be better off if everyone was on decent financial ground. No, it's not enough for them to have billions of dollars while the rest of us live at least a moderately decent life. No, not enough. They must have everything, and we must have nothing -- even if it farks everyone over. And that, children, is libertarianism/capitalism/Randroidism in a nutshell. That is the endgame.

/Do you know who else is concerned only with winning?
//That's right: psychopaths.

Top Gear would like to have a word with you in regards to the first part of that.

That being said, I would LOVE a functional high speed rail system in the US. It would be great to jump on a train and get from DC to New York in a timely manner or to Chicago.

yep and an average standard of living on par with the usual US trailer park. small cars, not much food, no real acreage in property ownership (except the few lords and ladies who have title), yes the low standard of living with no upward mobility and rigid class structure is what every commoner should desire in society.
dont get me wrong the crony capitalism practiced here is delivering the same results. regulations keep upstrts at bay.

The specifics depend on the particular starting and ending points. Still, try coming anywhere close with the US rail system, which takes 24 hours to get from DC to Chicago.

Well europeans seem to generally be skinnier and not as prone to weighing so much they require a rascal scooter to get around. I suppose I can live with being more like Europe in many ways.

Anyway, I can't help but wonder if this is some sort of political dog whistle referring to muslims. Something about "While Europe slept" being insinuated with a nonwhite president. Maybe I am reading too much into it.

You apparently last visited Europe in the year 1298.

2012-06-17 09:16:26 PM
The remarkable thing, to me, is that no reporters seem to be asking ol' Mitt these very simple questions:

1) How will you balance the budget, specifically?
2) How will you deal with the economic contraction associated with spending cuts?
3) How will you pay for your increased military budget?

Until then, I don't think anyone should listen to a god-damned thing he says. At the very least, forcing him to explain these things will force Obama to say what he plans to do to address the deficit, budget, and economy in the next four years.

Elections are all about gaffes, wedge issues, and hyperbole. I'd love to see some substance.

Not arguing much with the rest of your post, but this part is kind of a non-issue. There's a major difference between over 500,000,000 people living in 4.8 million square kilometers vs. 315,000,000 people living in 9.8 million square kilometers.

No increase in domestic social programs will replace our comfortable neighborhoods with cramped flats.

Homeownership in the US is similar to most other industrialized countries. So no, he isn't.

Unless you're talking about land, in which case...the United States is much, much larger than Europe.

Also on Top Gear they use very fast cars for their side by sides, even they don't pretend an average car would be faster.

mhd: but he's right on those two issues.

There's tons of food in Europe and as for small cars that's an urban matter, people only need a small car so that what's they get. But in any European nation you see lots of big cars.
