(Some Guy)   Will a 17-year old win a major? A 42-year old? Will anyone shoot under par? Can Eldrick keep his hands off the 17-year old's mom? It's your official 2012 U.S. Open thread   (usopen.com) divider line 373

bulldg4life: TripSixes: Webb just seems like a smarmy guy- a great golfer, but don't let him date your daughter. (OR YOUR MOM.)

Wait til you hear an interview where every third word is "lord", "god", or "pray".

I'd say he was the Tim Tebow of the PGA. But, he can....apparently...do well in the pros.

Yeah, he and Zach J and Bubba lead the prayer group in the locker room.

So if Jesus ends up winning the tournament for Simpson, then shouldn't Jesus be the one who gets the trophy?

GoldSpider: HeathenHealer: You dont know much about golf. That's ok.

I know that last year the US Open was at Congressional. I don't recall seeing any dead patches from old sprinkler heads there.

AliceBToklasLives: Wait till you see the Open Championship course.

I get it, it's a completely different environment/style of course.

The USGA had a softer course last year. Yes, there was more green last year and there were better scores. The USGA hates that.

The crap from this week gives Mike Davis a stiffy.

So eiach of these guys has to birdie 18 to force Monday.

RminusQ: It's still enough for me to say U-S-A.

McDowell is in play still.

GoldSpider: PeriRies: I was hoping a little bit for a Furyk win so that he could regain some decent sponsors and get rid of that Five Hour Energy hat that looks like it came from a Pilot truck stop.

Glad I'm not the only one that found that out-of-place.

A good golf sponsor does something with money - counts it, invests it, borrows it from the govt. on easy terms, etc.

/McDowell still in it

RminusQ: HeathenHealer: Furyk is done. Can't believe he and McDowell both pissed this away.

My Irish roommate and I were shiat-talking earlier this week about the U.S. Open, and wound up making a $1 honor bet. I took the American stars threesome, he took the British stars threesome, and I won by a mile. So as Friday's action was winding down, he offered another bet for the weekend: I took the side of "An American wins", he took the side of "anyone else wins". He insisted on getting a bonus for his man McDowell, an allowed me to pick one player who wasn't Tiger; I took Jim Furyk.

So basically, if either of these guys in the last group handed sucked down the stretch, it would've been severe bragging rights and $2. Instead I'm going to win $1 by default with Webb.

It's still enough for me to say U-S-A.

And "dolla dolla bill, y'all biatch"

But it's not like Wing Foot was an ugly course, and that course ate seasoned golfers for breakfast.

/You eat seasoned golfers for breakfast??

Congrats on the win, Webb. Back to back 68s on a course this tough is a pretty difficult feat.

Cool - nice win Webb - so when's the British Open? 3 or 4 weeks, right?

2012-06-17 10:32:00 PM
I've never seen a course eat golfers like this one has.

Whoever wins has earned it.

It was fun to see it all.

Conga rats to Webb Simpson, and good work to everybody else who did their very best.

Night y'all... As US Open finishes go in terms of entertainment value, this one was near the bottom of the list... For all the great stories going on earlier in the week (Tiger on form?, a 17yr old playing great, Casey Martin!, etc etc), the ending sucked... poor golf to close it.
