Ever since the modmins started picking decent SHMHC links, the weekly thread has gone dead. Back when they were picking horrible stuff, we'd get 60-80 comments easy.

They're doing it wrong!

only a couple of good things this week -

Dracena - Demonic Women (thrash/death; their later stuff seems to be rather dull, but this is excellent)

Arsenius - Necronomicon (black)

and a couple more good Volcano songs -

Volcano - Dead Men Tell No Tales (power/thrash)

Volcano - Absurd

and a good WTF song from Japan -

Gargoyle - Viva!

/I wonder if the thread deadness has as much or more to do with college just being out? There always seem to be lulls in June and December
//or maybe I have no clue who reads fark

Good stuff.

I wanted to mention Diablo Swing Orchestra's new album too - it is phenomenally good. Best one yet, probably. And, I never thought I'd say this sentence, but it may also be better even than Candlemass' new album. It's that good.

Full album - buy it!

Volcano f*cking rules. Violence is a power/thrash masterpiece and Mythology (which is what this is off of) was one of my favorites of last year.

Will have more links later tonight.

Suede head: I'm still waiting for rapper Sushi K.

I'm Sushi K and I'm here to say
I like to rap in a different way

Look out Number One in every city
Sushi K rap has all most pretty

My special talking of remarkable words
Is not the sterotyped bucktooth nerd

My hair is big as a galaxy
Cause I attain greater technology

I like to rap about sweetened romance
My fond ambition is of your pants

So here is of special remarkable way
Of this fellow raps named Sushi K

/Ugh. No thanks.

I imagine most of the comments were something along the lines of "metal is awful and is designed for angry teenage boys...and if you enjoy it as an adult you're likely emotionally stunted with mommy and daddy issues"....and they would be correct.

Sabbat Bloody Sabbat
Abigail/Barbatos
F*CKING METALUCIFER
Sigh (Because they're probably new to somebody)
Terror Squad
Galneryus
Tokyo Yankees
Stingray

There are others that I'm probably forgetting.

Quantum Apostrophe: How about Loudness' "Crazy Nights"?

I saw them live in 85 or 86 or so - I forget who they were touring with but they put on a very good show.

Their new album is really pretty good -

Loudness - King of Pain

SPna15: Abigail

Abigail's great! My favorite song of theirs is A Witch Named Aspilcuetta

Well they aren't Manilla Road, so I have to disagree with you on that. They are quite up there though.

This makes me happy. Of course, anything Townsend is a part of I will probably like.

Here he is with Gojira!

blair1: Snatch Bandergrip: lerxst2112 This is my fave Boris track....

Never really listened to them. The stuff I've heard has been more of their really slow stuff. I like this a little more. I've been really getting into stoner a lot more in the last few years. Missed Kylesa last time they were through and I was sad.

Can't forget the mighty G.I.S.M. Not strictly metal, but crust/hardcore legends that influenced quite a few metal bands.

As for Japanese metal, how about some Melodeath mixed with trance? Something so strange it could only come from Japan:
Blood Stain Child

I recently discovered Woods of Ypres and have been going through their catalog. Really good stuff. The writing is great through all 5 of their albums. It's a cool mix of clean and shrieking vocals. Kind of like a doom-heavy black metal

Why yes, I will have a seat right over there.

I did the same thing, discovered them just after David Gold died. "Career Suicide (Is Not Real Suicide)" has quickly become one of my new favorite songs.

Grey Skies and Electric Light is an awesome album from start to finish. I also really like The Deepest Roots and Darkest Blues. He was one hell of a songwriter. It's crazy he wrote songs like "Death is not an Exit" and "Kiss my Ashes Goodbye" only to die in a freak car accident less than a year later. "Through Chaos and Solitude I Came" is probably my favorite though.
