I would say that I am shocked that there are still folks that don't know this, but I actually had to explain this to someone at work earlier this week. She had just heard the term bath salts in relation to drug use and was freaking out because her mother had given her six year old son some eucalyptus bath salts to help with his asthma. So I explained to her that they were not the same thing, and that her little son was not getting high in his eucalyptus bath.

Three ODs alone in my small town this week - one dead, one in critical condition and one brain dead. They say that heroin is also making a comeback.

We had an elderly (85y/o) lady in our city call the police to remove the bath salts from her house.
she was afraid to throw them out, because 'the kids might get them'.
(I hope it makes the police blotter this week! Greenlight-city!)

I like the mention near the end that cops aren't getting any additional training on how to deal with people on bath salts, because they already know what to do.
Translation: "we already have guns."

No shiat sherlock.

2012-06-17 01:15:31 PM
Why is this rising in use? Or is it a case of it's cheap as shiat and people are cutting it into meth to score high profits?

Or are hipsters ironically taking it?

Honestly, after the 3rd or 4th story about bath salts (the drug) I had to bingle it.

I think it's a mix of all of the above.

Just like the synthetic pot stuff, once states start banning it, they'll move on to something else to get high on like hand sanitizer.

So reading along the article..

"It is very much like cocaine,"

Oh cool.. I've done coke in my youth, fun shiat!

extremely high body temperature, sleep deprivation, vivid hallucinations, enhanced strength, hostility and aggression. "[They] can hear voices, become paranoid,"

Yeah, that's not very much like any cocaine I've ever done. Maybe they should stop advertising it as cocaine and people might not use it.

Why is this sh*t legal anyhow? How many stories are there every week with this drug as a culprit in some violent episode. Pot smokers just stay at home and order pizza. It's good for the economy.

2012-06-17 01:21:48 PM
Wow, I didn't realize that bath salts came in a sealed foil-wrapped package with product design and everything. There are factories for this stuff? That's pretty funny.

I always thought it was a granular drug that came in cheap baggies like meth, coke or PCP. This is a new level of professionalism for recreational pharmaceuticals.

With all the stories in the past about people huffing paint or other household chemicals, it isn't really surprising that the general public thinks that the "bath salts" in the news are the same stuff that they can get from Walmart. In fact, I would not be surprised to hear that some idiot tried to snort real bath salts in an effort to get high.

Actually, drug chemists just alter the molecule a bit to make it legal again. Trying to ban substances is like playing whack-a-mole with those guys.

Because it is not illegal, yet. It is also cheap due to being legal. So the powers that be will make bath salts illegal. Then some enterprising person will invent a new, even more dangerous substance that is not illegal. And so it goes.

I am positive that this has happened many times. Also, I bet concerned parents everywhere are flushing their aromatherapy bath salts like mad.

I'm not embarrassed to admit that I didn't know they weren't actual bath salts until yesterday. Hell, people will smoke damn near anything to get high. People huff dust-off, they sniff glue, they smoke all manor of crazy plants...

I just figured there was some chemical in traditional bath salts that would mess you up good if eaten/smoked. I'm not particularly interested in exploring new/dangerous drugs so I couldn't be assed to do any sort of investigating.

We have a local store that sells " bear spray" bongs etc. and herbal stuff?!?!? (more bongs than I've seen in my entire life).

It is consumer driven and if you cannot get it legally, people will find an alternative.

Most bath salts (the tub kind) are epsom salts (also traditionally used as a laxative) and scent. So depending on what the scent is, you may get a bit sick from eating them, and you'd definitely get the wicked splattery shiats, but I doubt they'd kill you. Snorting them would hurt like a biatch, though. Ow.

For the same reason why Drano is legal its not sold as a consumable product.

So, a drug that turns you into a zombie? Yeah, I might stick to weed instead.

2012-06-17 01:36:36 PM
This is just a case of information spreading. We have a better idea of what will get us high, how to take it, mix it, prepare for it, enjoy it, etc than we ever have before, and they banned all the good, healthy safe drugs like marijuana, lsd, mushrooms, dmt and mescaline. You take some kids who don't have any connections or put them in an area that's just run dry from a bust, and they get creative. Technically you can buy forms of all the drugs I mentioned legally, if you're willing to put time and effort in (still illegal to prepare and consume) but if you aren't you've got to go to alternatives.

Bath salts man? This is just "plant food" and meow meow all over again. Take a research stim, package it as something it's not, sell it until the horror stories make it illegal, then you switch to the next one. No one is ever going to run out of ways to sell drugs to your kids. Just tell em the truth about what is and what isn't safe. If you try to say you're legally insane after 3 uses of lsd or you know some guy who got so stoned on marihuana cigarettes that he jumped off a building they aren't going to believe you when you say snorting unstudied stimulants is a recipe for a scary time.

What I mean to say is legalize all drugs.

Not the same. People that ingest Drano are suicidal and either die or merely destroy their esophogus and innards.
