"Glenn Beck to launch anti-'Glee' show,"

There's already a show called Grimm

I'm outraged with Glee because it's terrible.

A few thoughts:

1) Beck is really looking like Breitbart a few months before he died. I wonder what the heart failure rate on Republican pundits is nowadays. I'm not wishing harm upon him, but seriously....compare the pics of the two, and then imagine how much internal damage is caused by maintaining that rage for your job. It must age a person drastically.

2) Beck's work ethic seems to be solid as he just signed a five year contract for millions of dollars, so it makes sense that he'll immediately start up the hate machine again.

3) The 'Oedipus' Project? I wonder how many pundits really believe this shiat. I don't think Beck does, especially since he's been silent right up until he got a shiatload of money again.

It's as if he said something wrong...oh that's right. You morons hate all that's right. My bad

Coco LaFemme: You mean that doughy lump of paranoid fetid goat puke hasn't blown his brains out yet? Someone send him a tape of Budd Dwyer's last press conference. Include a note that says, "This is how to get Obama impeached."

If that happens, I will be playing Filter's "Hey Man, Nice Shot" to death.

I don't get it either. I've never watched it because the first time I ever heard about it I thought it sounded like Degrassi: The Musical, and that just seemed like a horrible idea.

A 'Glee' preaching 'conservative values'? The potential trainwreck has me licking my chops in anticipation.

It will be the musical version of Fox News' "The 1/2 Hour News Hour."

Dwight_Yeast: Forbidden Doughnut: I still can't figure out if Glenn Beck actually believes what he says, or is more like Rush Limbaugh. ( an "entertainer")

He's the only one of the Conservative pundits who I can't figure out. I am certain that he suffers from barely-controlled bipolar disorder.

I'm convinced he's trolling. I used to listen to him when he was on 970 out of Tampa and while he was conservative, he was always reasonable and actually put on a great show because he didn't take himself too seriously. He was great at incorporating morning radio style bits with political drive time talk, and one of the bits that he'd regularly do is something he called "The Schlub Club." Basically, in the first hour of his show, he'd set up some kind of IRL trolling scenario where he'd take some absurd position on an issue and tell the people who were listening then to call in and carry on the bit. Then, when he hit the drive time hour, he'd go into the troll, people would call in who were in on it, everybody who got in their cars to head home had no idea that it was the Schlub Club, they'd think it was serious and call in completely outraged and Beck was excellent at keeping it going without breaking character, laughing, or giving any hint at all that he and some of his listeners were trolling the rest of his audience. It was always a hilarious bit of broadcasting and one of the things that made his show so great.

I think that somewhere along the line he realized that there was a ton of money to be made from never breaking character and just spouting the nuttiest stuff he could think of, and I suspect that he's just waiting for someone to figure out a way to call him on it.

Same here, but look at Beck and look at the last few years of his life: he's got the stubble, the far away look, and his hair has gone pale. Something is up with his health, and I doubt his job is helping him maintain a healthy and relatively-stress free lifestyle. He does not look well, and that whole 'year off' thing might have been for health reasons. I'm not trying to be a dick or anything, but Beck does not look well at all.

rynthetyn: I think that somewhere along the line he realized that there was a ton of money to be made from never breaking character and just spouting the nuttiest stuff he could think of, and I suspect that he's just waiting for someone to figure out a way to call him on it.

Also, he was in radio, and that's a dying industry if there was one. A lot of the biggest names in radio aren't just in radio: Limbaugh has some political party ties and Howard Stern has been trying to get into other forms of media for years now before he lucked out with some reality show gig. There isn't much money in radio because content is cheap and the 'shock' paradigm is dying due to the Internet. Beck was probably smart in doing this punditry because it's big and easy money. The only real downside is that it's the last thing you will do in your career as you become obnoxious and toxic and your health starts to fail.

I watched it once. Brain candy, not my thing. But, I thought it was inclusive, sweet and open about social issues most kids face in a non "After School Special" preachy kind of way. My kids could be watching worse.

They're both pretty vile so I don't know much about either but Beck seems a LOT more calm and calculating. His emotional outbursts just look like acting to me.

While breitbart would squat directly over the turd launcher and let'er rip Beck prefers to let it bake in the bedpan then serve it to you frosted with a candle in the middle.

/and don't watch the stupid show if you don't like it dumbass

Okay, you're a goddamned idiot. Just because you ignore the existence of something that annoys you does not mean it magically stops existing. That is why we teach our children the game of peekaboo so they learn their parents don't stop existing when they close their eyes. You are only contributing to the problem by making that argument so do not make it again.

You're right about the closet homo part, though.

Yes it does...

/ignored. lol

Good. I can hardly wait to see what a conservative, pro-bullying, anti-gay, abstinence promoting teen musical drama looks like. More than that, I'm curious as to how well it would do, ratings-wise.

It's certainly not my cup of tea but if that's what folks want to watch then be my guest. Believe it or not, there is room for more than one viewpoint on television.

He made $40 million last year spewing that crazy.

Once again the Right attempts to coopt popular culture with predictably terrible results. These guys need to accept the fact that they have no sense of humor and no sense of rhythm. Give it up, Glenn. You'll never be able to win over the youth vote, so you might as well concentrate on trying to disenfrancise them. Stick with Lawrence Welk, that's where your base's musical tastes are anyway.

He's underpaid. I don't think $40 million would be enough to convince me to be that guy.

Okay. He's calling this his "Oedipus" project because the Left will love him and not realize it. Indicating that those on the Left are Oedipus and he's Jocasta.

What he doesn't seem to realize was that Oedipus was a hero, wise if temperamental, and beloved by his people, and a great ruler. The tragedy was that he killed his father, not necessarily that he was farking his mother (people were weird back then).

Jocasta existed to hang herself later.

2012-06-17 01:28:08 PM

Doctor Funkenstein: "We jokingly call this our Oedipus project because the left will be making out with me ... and they'll have no idea."

This is a very...odd statement. Ummm, hey, Glenn, Oedipus was a fictional character who killed his father and farked his mother.

This. The guy sees inciting rage, making out with liberals, and having sex with his mother as the same thing? Have there, by chance, been a string of disappearances of women who look vaguely like Glenn Beck's mother in his neighborhood? Because if there have been, I think I know where the bodies are buried now.

The guy is going the David Icke path of being crazy, then just crazy enough to be a popular TV personality, then way, waaaaay too crazy for anyone to pay much attention anymore, then full-blown deranged beyond the ability to care for himself. His show will be a goldmine for future psychologists who want to see how mental disease eats away at a person in real time.

Are they going to have shows were the nice straight couple is minded their own business and gay bullies pick on them?

So basically he wants a Glee series, but one that'd be supported by groups like Focus on the Family.. wait a second, didn't Invisible Children use their vaguely-sinister-Christian-group provided start-up money to make a Glee style video before their Kony 2012 thing caught on? This guy just has no original ideas at this point, it's like everything he does is just this incestuous mixing of different branches of conservative politics and media. I guess that explains the title though.

2012-06-17 01:52:33 PM
I think Glee is atrocious, but only because it's full of lame covers of bad pop music, terrible acting, and ham-fisted "messages".

No, we play "peekaboo" because it takes advantage of their inability to comprehend object permanence, not to teach it to them. They will grasp the concept all on their own in a few months.

In the meanwhile, we have an easy way to entertain our children.

HGS' TWO LAWS OF PUNDITRY

1. No matter how insane, ridiculous or cockamamie a politically-fueled statement may be, there will always be at least a handfull of rubes out there who will consider it gospel truth.

2. These rubes have disposable income.
