He got laid, kept his anonymity despite the cameras and is getting money? Sweet.
If this had happened in the states the story would be so much different.

Exactly. He would have been named and shamed by now.

And we would have known his political affiliation by the sex of his partner.

People in public have no reasonable expectation of privacy.

Better than sex in a shallow forest.

Amirite ladies?

Isn't this the defacto standard for human propagation in Australia?

2012-06-17 07:24:55 AM
Unless either of their faces are clearly seen, what does it matter? And were either one of them cheating? We have to assume they were since they were in the woods...

I could only imagine those are the only two reasons anyone would care.

If he wins this case and gets money, I think I will have to find a place where there are cameras, but no signs saying that we are being filmed, and take my wife there for a little fun time. Then, I will sue for invasion of privacy. It's a perfect plan!

Qbwiz: How did he discover he had been caught on camera?

I'm guessing someone at the Carinthia Hunting Society thought it would be funny to post the pics of a couple careless perverts "getting back to nature" on a blog somewhere, and it eventually got forwarded to a mailing list the politician was on (after the Internet had it forever, of course). At some point he realized it was actually himself in the pics, and went Super Lawyerjin.

The silly thing is that, even if they follow the security adviser's advice, the people in the bushes would have as much chance of noticing the signs before getting it on as the cameras themselves had of actually catching anyone in the act completely at random.

Didn't this happen in 1984? They went to the countryside to get away from the cameras. I can't remember if they had hidden cameras in the forest or not. I think reality has just become worse than 1984.

That is true. But it's also perfectly legal to run around naked, have sex, or go skinny dipping in a remote location. Other people have the right to film you. I just don't like the idea of the government filming you without your knowledge.

I guess they will have to rope off the area with 'camera' tape, similar to crime scene tape.

Then they will get sued because someone will get tangled in it walking through the woods at night without a flash light.

People should not get paid for being stupid, careless or immoral. He was outdoors so he has no right to claim his privacy was violated. The filming of his act was not intentional, he placed himself at that location and he choose to do what he did, not the government. I can understand wanting go keep the pictures from being made public but expecting to get paid for it is ridiculous.

2012-06-17 09:01:26 AM
Honestly, I'd have thought wildlife photographers would put up signs around camera sites, to keep people from spoiling the pictures.

If they were keeping it secret, how come everyone knows about it?

And the camera was in public. The only laws that should apply should relate to the use of the video or pictures.

Between all the shelterbelts around my state, there are thousands of cameras. They are put there by hunters who are scouting where the best deer are and they are often accompanied by a deer stand. I've never seen one marked, in fact they're often well concealed.

True, true. Then again, remember that we no longer live in a world where screwing up (literally, in this case) is just seen by a few or several people and maybe they'll forget about it in twenty years. The interwebs remembers everything people upload to it, and some actually use this fact to be a 20-megaton nuclear asshole about it and try to humiliate others for shiats and giggles, whether for good or bad reasons. This politician completely freaked out after watching his own antics forever published online and acted accordingly.

Seriously, in a forest?? How....utterly enchanting.

Signs will only defeat the purpose of the hidden camera, now that the critters can read.
