I would like to know, though, seriously:
There are only two popular behaviors that have yet to be declassified as sexual perversion. Why the hell is furryism one of them?

It's a scary difference people aren't used to and can easily sensationalize. Clowns are a kind of different that people are used to by now.

/Things are rarely as sensational as they are made out to be. Except for Uncle Kage. He worked on Cubane as a grad student.

First year they were here, everyone was all, "Oh no! There's 'em perverts here n'at! Yinz better watch aht, or they'll do unspeakable things to us!"

Then, the city announced that they bring in excess of $5M into town, and now the evening news is always, "They're back! Those lovable furries are back in town once again for Anthrocon 2012!"

Should anything be a sexual perversion?

furries, no malice intended here, are at least as farked up as any other freaky sexual behavior I've ever heard of.

I have to imagine it's a kind of "people don't know who I am" kind of thing. But then I think, why wouldn't they just wear masks? Does it have to be fur? Are there lizard furries? Amphibians? Is it because they're soft, or because there's costumes, or because there's animals? Do they just have that much time on their hands, or do they make time?

I don't really have a problem with the idea, per se, as much as I have a problem with people who put that much effort into anything. Anything that doesn't make you totally famous or rich.

I don't care how much effort they put into it, just so long as the result is realistic/attractive, as in this

Quark_Quasar: Anything that doesn't make you totally famous or rich.

There's famous and then there's famous, kid. There's rich and then there's rich, too.

Warren Buffet is really rich and famous, but no one wants a piece of that except call girls and wasps.

Meanwhile, PA's local cover band Emily's Toy Box isn't super famous, but they've been touring State College PA for years and have probably gotten more than a million in comped beers and made woopee with more coeds than anyone has a right to. In that party scene, they're a LOT more famous than Buffet and a lot richer to boot.

For furries, they have their own little thing. They put all that effort in, they get theirs, you'd better believe it. I mean look at this cafe owner. $26,000 for what? For being his bad ass self for ten years. A solid rep as a mensch is worth, in the long run, a lot more than any movie stardom. I mean look at all the bands that break up and the movie stars that get kicked to the curb. But that guy who makes the nice fursuits? He's gonna be rolling in pussy for as long as furries are a thing.

Got a friend over at Anthrocon right now. From what I've seen, there are far more people --like him --who are just in it for the art--they don't bother to dress up. It's all thanks to that one CSI episode that aired long ago that people have the perception of furries as perverts who wear latex-lined suits and have mass yiff-sex in furpiles.

I admit, most of the furries I know are heavily into porn--I don't know if the fandom is perverted as a whole or if I just happened to come across a particularly perverted corner of it. (I suppose there are furry artists who DON'T spend all their time drawing pictures of foxes with massive tits....somewhere....)

*cough*

The furries i know are wonderful people, but definitely fall into the furvert category. In fact, if i had to guess, as much as "its all just harmless fun, with nothing sexual about it", i think the community probably falls something like this.
