I'm somewhat surprised that there wasn't legislation to require men to lock up their daughters too...

Good to see they're working on making sure people can get their drink on instead of stupid stuff like equal rights.

I never understood the point of blue laws anyway except to kill me with alcohol withdrawal.

Good Christian communities don't sell Demon Rum on the Lord's Day!

Gambling, drinking and whoring are strictly Monday thru Saturday activities.

That's lovely. So much for separation of church and state.

You don't. That's what the communion wine is for.

Either repeal the laws completely or don't do this at all. If you're willing to relax them for one day you're admitting they're bullshiat to start with, frankly.

Laws are laws until they inconvenience the ruling elites.

Carry on citizen, there is nothing to see here.

Christians aren't supposed to drink on Sunday or whatever. They know this. They claim to follow the tenets of their religion. Do they really need the state enforcing their private choices and associations as citizens? Whatever happened to the personal accountability and responsibility without state "assistance" that conservatives stand for?

(I know they don't actually stand for that.)

No, knave. The law shouldn't be on the books to start with. Relaxing it for one day just because you have a big tourist convention in town just shows that you think the law is useless.

Yea, it html failed quoting you, been corrected.

And yes, the law is useless. But easing it so people from out of state and whatnot can drink is at least a decent thing to do.

Sunday is different because it was mistaken for the Sabbath by some Christian monks who were so hammered they thought it was still Saturday.

Christianity doesn't ban alcohol or drinking alcohol on Sundays. I'd wager there are far more churches that drink wine during communion than grape juice. Getting drunk is frowned upon but alcohol bans are modern beliefs that don't really have Biblical support.

I agree with that one. The law is definitely bullshiat. I know some mom and pop stores who would gladly be open on Sundays or odd hours because the big chains would be less likely to. Small government, pro-business my taint.

Small government Christian conservatives are unable to regulation their own drunkeness on the Lord's Day without help from the nanny state. And yes, while this is opening up the Labor Day Monday and not Sunday, they can always be conviced to temporarily repeal blue laws if it gets in the way of making an easy buck.

Which is why blue laws aren't enforced in tourist heavy areas such as Charleston or Myrtle Beach SC, or during the Christmas season - which is supposed to be one of the holiest times of year to begin with.

Nothing surprising here. Utah relaxed liquor laws during the Olympics. These regressive states tend to not like being a national spectacle over their backwater ways.
