Happy Hours: Why exactly is this sad?

Because a fellow human being died?

Nah, I'm kidding. Maybe subby meant it's sad because we don't know how painful his death was.

The thing is, all the heirs of Saudi Arabia are older men. Whenever King Abdullah does kick it, you have to wonder how many will be left and will the last one standing be rational.
Not this one, he's adopted.

A succession system designed to keep power away from the next generation for as long a possible.

Well, there is no line of succession in Saudi Arabia. The heir is determined by a consensus or vote of the eldest members of the family, and so far they've chosen from among the sons of Ibn Saud (themselves). I'd say after Abdullah, or after his successor at the latest, those who are left will agree it's time for someone younger and we'll get a grandson on the throne.

"With deep sorrow and grief ... King Abdullah mourns his brother ... Crown Prince Nayef who passed to the mercy of God on Saturday outside the kingdom," said a royal court statement.

A source close to the royal family said Nayef had died suddenly in Geneva after receiving treatment for a knee complaint.

Because he was in the pocket of the US. Now the CIA has to romance one of the other possible princes to be their puppet.

A top choice of these grandsons to take the throne is this Prince Nerf guy's son, Muhammad. As far as Saudi royals go, he seems to be a fairly stand-up guy. And a Saudi who actually hates terrorism to boot!

Sorry, did I get the line wrong? It's been at least a year since I saw that.
