*Bzzt*. I'll have to stop you there. RON PAUL is a Republican, through and through. He just usually dresses the usual GOP policies (Tax cuts, deregulation, no gays or abortions) under 'state's rights' bullshiat.

I know people are predicting some kind of entertaining drama at the convention, but I would bet that this is the more likely outcome:

As I've mentioned before, Pat Robertson tried this same crap in 1988 and nothing came of it.

Remember how Robertson pulled a big coup in 1988? "No, I don't", you say? That's the same way you will remember this convention.

the GOP convention will be peaceful and quiet. boring even.

they will find ways to throw out the Paul folks and any other dissenters because if they don't the behind the scenes money guys would biatch big time. those secret PACs aren't going to flush a billion dollars by starting with a comedy convention.

and that daily caller asshole won't be spouting off either. he'll be submitting written questions that the candidate might answer if his handlers can figure out a safe one.

Nice.....

That sounds a bit made up.

Probably some Ron Paulite got himself chosen as a Romney delegate (they're big on that), and refused to certify the vote 'cause Paul didn't win, so clearly it was rigged. These guys are complete nutters.

You know, i've followed politics and been in it long enough, and have the education, to be able to pick out the difference between the utter horseshiat, the half-truths, and the truths. And be able to point out the truths underlying the utter horseshiat and the half-truths.

But this...I just don't know. Given some of the crap we've seen out of the GOP in the last year, year-and-a-half, this or something like it is hardly beyond the pale nor really unexpected. That's really true if the word "Arizona" is attached in any way. If I had to guess on whether this is true or not, I'd have to give it a 50/50 shot between half-truth (Paultard got picked as a delegate and refused to certify, like you said) and truth.

To be fair, I don't think 'ol Pat ever had the kind of cult following RON PAUL has. There was no Pat-fest '88. Link

Holy crap. I now see there is also a separate Libertarian "Freedom Festival" in the area at the same time: Link

I'm not sure the state of Floriduh can handle all this "freedom" and "liberty", but please let there be lulz and plenty of popcorn.

Arizona politics? Let me tell you about two Arizona senators.

Barry Goldwater.
Tied to directly to the Mafia in Arizona. Called a lawyer 4 or 5 times the day a newspaper reporter was blown to bits in Phoenix. The lawyer Barry called hired the killers who murdered Don Bolles, that investigative journalist who wrote stories about Kemper Marley, Barry Goldwater's Mafia buddy.

John McCain. You remember Kemper Marley? Marley had a Mafia-connected guy do time in prison for him. That connected felon was award the largest liquor distributorship west of the Mississippi even though it was against the law for a convicted felon to hold a liquor distributorship. The Mafia guy's name was Jim Hensley. John McCain worked for Hensley, a convicted felon connected to the Mafia. John McCain also married the daughter of his boss. Maybe you've heard of her. Cindy McCain, the woman who wanted to be First Lady.

Yeah. Arizona politics stinks.

About my post above, the lawyer connected to all the people involved in the murder of Don Bolles was Neal Roberts. Here's a link about his testimony in a trial.

It's very sad that a reporter could be murdered by a crowd that included two Mafia-connected Arizona movers and shakers and two US senators only to see the big boys get away with murder.

While you may be too late to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Ayn Rand's death you can still celebrate the fact that she's dead!
Those of you who live close by can pack a picnic and head on over to Valhalla, New York and visit her grave
at the Kensico cemetery (273 Lakeview Avenue, Valhalla, NY).

Take a fake sick day and make it a special day to remember.

So let me get this straight, the lawyers for the RPs are going to argue the RNC has to protect the "voting rights" of a handful of people by ignoring the "voting rights" of hundreds of thousands of voters?

I wonder if the lawyer making this argument can do so with a straight face?

What is it with the RPs that makes them completely unable to function in reality? It isn't like if somehow this lawsuit is successful that they are going to change anyone's mind and convince them to change their vote to Ron Paul.

I remember in 92 how the over reach by Pat Robertson and his culture war helped Clinton.

Lagging in the polls by double digits to the Clinton-Gore team after a successful Democratic Convention, and with Ross Perot temporarily out of the race, the Republican Party worked hard to rally its base of social conservatives. Pat Buchanan's opening night "Culture War" speech argued that a great battle of values was taking place in the United States. Republican National Committee chairman Rich Bond (referring to Democrats) claimed that "we are America, they are not America

Maybe. But unless the GOP just straight out murders a statistically significant minority of the delegates, they are going to have to do something to appease the Paultards - we are, after all, talking about a group known for showing their asses at all times, and there is no way they can turn the cameras off for the entire convention ("for the third night straight, we are experiencing technical difficulties and can only show you a blank screen!"). So, the GOP will have to do something to make them happy: personally, I assume there will be a plank in the platform reading "N*ggers are property!"

And the Democrats should drag along a member of the "Ron Paul Is The True Messiah" Brigade to every news show they get invited to during the time-period of the convention. Introduce him/her as "a true and dedicated Republican", pull the pin, and walk away - having a "Republican" go all frothing psycho about the evil of Romney would be a marvelous piece of performance art by the Dems.

It has already gone beyond winning without incident.

New duly elected members have been thrown to the floor by the police in an illegal action brought about by the losers. Fingers have been broken.

When your own party can't play by its own rules, among its own members, something needs to be done. It is time to try and salvage what is left or move on.

Considering you can join and leave the organization at will without either paying dues or suffering penalties, I don't think you can claim contractual damages because they did things you didn't like. The average person has more formal ties to the friends of their friends than they do to a political party, yet I would like to see you successfully convince a judge the friends of friends owe you for buying a car without accepting your input. Ultimately, letting people who go fill out a card at the local DMV vote for their private organization's leader is a social convention - it binds the GOP exactly as much as they choose it to. The GOP could quite legally just declare Romeny their nominee by fiat tomorrow; they don't because it would be a PR disaster*, but they can and Paultards would have to pound sand.

* That said, it might be the lesser evil of letting the Nutter Brigade get national airtime on the GOP's dime.
