Yes I watched it. Best I can say about it is that it was true to it's overblown primetime original. Would I watch again? No. The 80's are long past.

2012-06-16 11:29:03 AM
ABC is already doing "Murder, She Wrote." it's called "Castle."

Will the season finale be "Who donated JR's Liver?"

Must have been Pam. Don't remember her being in the pilot.

The season after will all be revealed to be a dream when Bobby is found on the floor of the shower, having fallen asleep after slipping and breaking his hip.

Who shot jr with his insulin?

I watched a little just to see if Charlene Tilton still had the acting chops of a 7th grade school play understudy.

It was pretty awful.

I wasn't a big "Dallas" fan back in the day. I watched around the time of "Who shot JR?" because, well everyone did. The show was huge back then. Then I stopped watching for almost a decade and then started watching again its final season, just to see what was going on. I watched the new TNT episodes. Don't think I'll keep watching. Sad to see how old the original cast members have gotten. Lucy has just gotten plain scary looking, JR has out of control eyebrows. Sue Ellen looks odd with all her face and neck folds. The only one that still looks semi-decent is Bobby. They should have offered Victoria Principal a boatload of money to come back. It would have helped...a little.

WTF is up with your neck?

I wouldn't think people today would be in the mood to watch a show about asshole billionaire oil barons.

So, did they make even the slightest mention of JR's suicide in the last episode of the original series?

2012-06-16 03:33:02 PM
So, it wasn't a drug induced illusion a few days ago when flipping through the channels; I thought I saw JR and Bobby in some sort of nursing home.

Good to know.

I think that's being ignored or he shot the mirror or something.

He didn't commit suicide in the last episode. That was explained in the two reunion movies CBS did in the late 90's.

J.R. Returns retconned this ending by explaining that Bobby walked in on J.R. ranting and raving about the Devil after shooting the mirror, and that he subsequently fled to Paris to hide out for five years.

No, it will all turn out to that JR is really an astronaut trapped on the moon during a failed NASA mission, and his whole life was a fantasy created by Jeanie to give him the illusion of a full life before his air runs out.

I liked it - it is what it is. Trashy, overblown entertainment.

Better than another damned totally-rigged-karaoke-contest reality show.

I watched the first 5 minutes, then my stepson came home on leave from the USMC. We chatted for 45 minutes or so, and when I returned I just couldn't get into it.

Someone said the word bullshiat, which would still get bleeped on CBS. (And Fark.)

Why did I watch this? I never watched Dallas much before but I guess I was drawn in by novelty of attempting a direct continuation of an iconic 1980s show instead of rebooting it. Would it do what it was supposed to do or be a train wreck? I think it did what it was supposed to do. At least it's not another "reality" game show. Larry Hagman doing J.R. at 80 is interesting and different and the show is, perhaps unintentionally, a bit more grounded by shooting in Dallas instead of Hollywood, shooting on digital instead of gauzy film, and having a much lower budget than in its heyday. I might keep watching if J.R. is in it enough. Patrick Duffy has aged well and could be interesting if they give him enough to do, but J.R. is the reason to watch.

As it should be. JR was always the reason to watch Dallas.

I saw just a few minutes of it, and yeah, awful.

The young actors suck, and the original actors are ooooooooold.

She never even came back to the original show after she left (which went on for an additional 4 seasons + 2 movies after her). Plus her character supposedly died off-screen.

Dow Jones and the Temple of Doom: Wait a sec... It's the same people from the 80's??

Patrick Duffy, Linda Gray, and Larry Hagman (Bobby/Sue Ellen/JR) are part of the main cast. Steve Kanaly and Charlene Tilton (Ray/Lucy) made a blink-and-you-miss-em appearance in the first episode. And thank god too, she looks like an absolute ghoul.

^ Plus, Ken Kercheval (Cliff) is supposed to be appearing in several episodes.

Siffy was letting "shiat" slide for the first season of Lost Girl. Though they seem to be editing it in the second season.

Watched way too much of this tripe in the '70's/'80's. Over it now, as I hate everyone in Texas. Ms. Tilton looks like she's been around the block a few thousand times, I'd have her checked for STD's. Did hagman throw up on the set? No? Must be the new liver and no one had any acid.

/glad I missed it.

They started out the new one with Bobby dying of Cancer. Im guessing the plan is to have the old characters on at the start to draw the old shows audience in then phase them out in favor of the younger generation. Bobby loses his battle with Cancer right on the verge of defeating JR 2&3 and the end of Season 1 cliffhanger is.....wait for it.......Who shot JR? Except this time successfully.

No, genius, not a reboot. If anything, it's The Next Generation.
