MyRandomName: I'm just waiting the post game "russian fans are racist" update now that FIFA threatened the country with a 6 point hit if they don't stop the racism.

considering the behavior of half the fan bases at the euros i'm still not sure why uefa decided to pick on the russians.

Russia just doesn't seem like they're being accurate with their passing/ball control...the ball's never where it needs to be.

Yes! The human filth countries are out. Hopefully Ukraine follows them next match.

Wow. This is an upset special. WHo would have thought Greech and the Czechs would be going through?

So in the GReek locker room, is Samaras, who is the chief flopper of all floppers in this fiasco, he is a top or a bottom? I think the flopper would like it up the ass, but on the other hand, he was a hero.

I had Greece and Poland. Apparently the home advantage wasn't enough.

Greece is still screwed in the next round for that card for "Diving" that was not diving.

If you didn't have them both, it doesn't count. Even still, after that first day, not too many people didn't have the Russians going through.

The Greeks were flopping all over the field like they were a load of fish released by helicopter. So the only Greek who actually had a reason to fall down was called? I have no sympathy.

you might say he was a hoplite.

Yeah, I made that bet before the first game. ;)

It wasn't diving... but it was still a flop. Karagounis had nothing else on his mind there except "get fouled". He actually forced the contact and fell after he'd landed on his feet. Him being suspended for the next game because of it scores a solid "meh" on my chart.

Yes, a team should be punished for flopping.. It's why France and Italy never have any players for games, all the cards they get for that...

Do you even watch the game? That wasn't even top 20 in teams with flopping.

He didn't force contact, the defenders thigh moved into the path of his stride. Have you ever ran full sprint and had someone clip a foot? It doesn't take much to go down.

As far as this tournament has progressed, England is the team to beat if you're aiming for the flopping crown.

He could have easily avoided the tackle if his intention was to try and score. But it wasn't, and he didn't. He left his foot to be clipped, and still managed to land it afterward.
Going by the rulebook it was a foul, but I'll live with it not being called.
I do play football quite a lot - I live two countries north of Greece.

Meh, that was a rather simplistic attempt to draw a penalty by the Greek guy.
Usually people complain when players aren't carded for something like that.

/card was probably for biatching about the call, though

Okay, having seen a replay, the card clearly wasn't for biatching and thus BS.
Penalty is 50-50. From the back it looks like he's trying to draw a penalty, from the front it looks like he deserved one.

Now the real important fixture is tomorrow.

Assuming they get over their hangover, Greeks have to elect someone to sit next to Angela Merkel for the quarterfinal.

That's another one where you need to get out the calculators.
Let me try...

-------

Germany does NOT advance
if Portugal beats Netherlands and Denmark also beats Germany 1:0, 2:1 or with more than two goals difference.

Denmark advances with
a) a win
b) a draw if Netherlands beat Portugal
c) a loss as long as Netherlands doesn't win by two or more goals or scores less than 4 goals

Portugal advances with
a) a win or a draw if Denmark doesn't win
b) a win if Denmark beats Germany 1:0, 2:1 or by two or more goals

Netherlands advances
if Denmark loses and if they beat Portugal by two or more goals or if they win and score four times or more, i.e. they need a 2:0, 3:1, 4:3, 5:4,.. or something better

2012-06-16 06:18:03 PM
One correction to that. If Germany beats Denmark and the Dutch beat Portugal by 1 goal, I believe Portugal advances regardless of how many goals are scored (if it's 2-1 or higher, Portugal advances on goals scored in games between tied teams. If it's a 1-0 win, then first the Dutch finish in 4th because of goals scored, then they reapply the head to head tiebreak and Portugal finishes ahead of Denmark).

Woo Hoo! Guess I get to spend more time in the beer garden.

kevinatilusa: MyRandomName: kevinatilusa: Also goodbye Russia, unless they get a goal back.

Wasn't expecting that after they demolished the Czechs last week.

I thought goal differential was the 1st tie break. Greece would need 2 more goals.

Euro uses head-to-head tiebreakers first.

That's pretty lame, actually. So scoring a lot of goals doesn't pay off?
How European of them. Hard work never pays.

I believe you're right; I must have looked for results that would push Netherlands past Denmark and ignored that they would be behind Portugal in that 3-way-comparison, despite beating them.
So Netherlands wouldn't advance with a 4:3 and a Danish loss, they would just end up 3rd behind Portugal and in front of Denmark.
That also means that Denmark is out if they lose, no matter how the other game ends.
So:

Germany does NOT advance
if Portugal beats Netherlands and Denmark also beats Germany 1:0, 2:1 or with more than two goals difference.

Denmark advances with
a) a win
b) a draw if Netherlands beat Portugal

Portugal advances with
a) a win or a draw if Denmark doesn't win
b) a win if Denmark beats Germany 1:0, 2:1 or by two or more goals
c) a loss if it's just by one goal and Germany beats Denmark

Netherlands advances
if they beat Portugal by two or more goals and Germany beats Denmark

COUGH - see my link: Link

Also, that strip quiz is biatchin' hard!

what if Italy wins, Spain wants to win, whereas if they knew their fate- they would not play to win.

Hah, not my fault Russia dropped the ball :P They had the talent and ability to destroy Greece, but they just couldn't get it together. I don't think a single person predicted what actually happened.

I did. I had absolutely no faith in the Russians qualifying and was fully prepared for them choking. I said this to people before the tournament. The Russians will fail and the Italians will somehow scrape through.

Now I've probably jinxed the Italians though.
