Mark St John wasn't there long and didn't really play with a KISS sound and didn't contribute much to the one and only album he was on but the one thing that will always make me like and respect him as a KISS guitarist is the simple fact that he wasn't Vinnie Vincent!

You have to give Vinnie Vincent some credit... he wrote most of the best stuff on Creatures of the Night, Lick It Up, and Revenge. And if he weren't such an asshole, there would have been no Slaughter.

Of course, he's still completely farking insane.

Heh, I always Paul Stanley standing in front of a wall of merchandise like Yogurt in Spaceballs. KISS the lunchbox, KISS the Doll, KISS the toilet paper.

Huh. I didn't know about Slaughter and had never bothered looking at the songwriting credits of Revenge. New info is cool! :)

\Revenge, fwiw, is a great hair band album

Vinnie is a talented writer (player?? meh). Gene has never (to my knowledge) stated in public exactly what VV was fired for (unethical behavior?? ). I've met both gene and Vinnie and Vinnie is an incredible jerk....even to people who are his fans.

RIP Mark St John

Does this mean we'll finally get a full-length animated Kiss Saves Christmas?

I banged my little head silly. I didn't know til years later that much of the live stuff was "enhanced" in the studio.

I haven't been able to stand Family Guy for years now, but if the "Kiss Saves Santa" episode is on, I'll happily watch it. When it was funny it was a blast -- and for a short time a good substitute for the flagging Simpsons.

Sorry, only two jews. Peter was Italian, and Ace was... well, probably catholic. Also, he seemingly had a thing for the Nazis. I mean, look at the Kiss logo he designed.

KISS has not made an album since unmasked. This statement is fact and can not be argued.

It's cyclical for me. I got burned out on Simpsons, so I was ecstatic when they brought back Family Guy. Then Family Guy got old, and I went over to South Park for awhile. Now I'm back to liking the new Simpsons episodes. I think all three shows continue to work as long as you just take an occasional year off.

Actually, according to his Wikipedia bio, Ace graduated from a Lutheran primary school. Since he's Dutch/German, this isn't that hard to believe. Best to just say 2 Jews, 2 Christians.

\random fact: Gene's mother, like Geddy Lee's parents, is a Holocaust survivor.

Discard the image,costumes,makeup and merchandising.....

"Hotter Than Hell" is a really good rock album from the 70s.

"Rock and Roll Over" is pretty good too.

Whoa...seriously, same story for me. KISS Alive II. 1977 (I think). The first record I bought with my own money.

Unless this gets us a Full Length KISS Saves Santa I don't care, not a huge KISS fan and I quit caring about Family guy when it started getting political.

I've always wondered what it was that made Vinnie Vincent such an insufferable bastard. The dude has not made a single recording since the mid-90s.

Whereas Ace and Peter were basically screw ups and were at about Gene's level of songwriting (ie - leagues below Paul), they both were essential to the KISS sound.

The current line up, with Tommy and Eric, manage to duplicate that KISS sound - Ace's bent creaky notes and Peter's odd tom tom heavy/ jazzish / thudding and clumsy drums - but all records between 1978 and 2009 didn't really sound like KISS - or at least the initial KISS distinctive sound.

So having said that, Vinnie Vincent's sound - as heard on the brilliant Creatures of the Night and others, is pretty amazing. It's not really KISS, but it's awesome.

I say that my favorite KISS record is Destroyer, but my favorite non-KISS KISS record is Creatures.

Eric Carr was probably the best of the Kiss drummers. He was also writing songs that were much better than what Gene or Paul were writing in the late 80s.

But, when you're only a hired gun, you don't get any representation on albums. So, they released Crazy Nights instead of something good.

In fact, the whole reason The Elder was made instead of a decent album was because Ace was outvoted on the decision whether to make a real Kiss album or The Elder.

Glad you liked it!
The KISS 4K web comic was so much more fun to read than the print comic.
It's a shame Adam Black did not get to finish it.
He went on to write/draw a little read but very well done comic called Locus
