hmmm totally wide open engine regs for 2014, that's gonna make it interesting. Back to the old rules, anything goes, you just have to make it on the fuel allowed.

WhyteRaven74: I can't imagine what it's like to drive the straight of Mulsanne at night.

Csb time....

At rookie orientation for laguna years ago, one guy put up silhouettes of different tracks, very few people could pick out le mans or Monaco but everyone got Indy and of course our home track.

Needless to say, I was ashamed of my coworkers.

The endurance of the drivers is likewise tested as drivers frequently spend stints of over two hours behind the wheel before stopping in the pits and allowing a relief driver to take over the driving duties

I'm quite sure it's looks better in the car than watching it on a screen, the whole eyes and light condition thing, but even so, 200 at night with just your headlights for illumination with a chicane out there, somewhere?

The quips on speed are cracking me up. "racing cars are safer than racing cycles."

In a way...
Driving the corkscrew is a hair raising experience, biking, tucking in and doing 45 down the corkscrew is balls crushingly scary.

I remember a couple weeks back I was watching MotoGP and one of the racers was routinely having his motorcycle wiggle noticeably as he was hitting the brakes into the slow corners. And it was obvious after the first couple times he was just braking as late as he could and saying consequences be damned. Course at the superbike race at Road America they had guys sliding their bikes a bit sideways on purpose.

I was definitely hoping it looked a lot brighter to the driver than it did through that camera.

I'm sure it does, since he's sitting in the dark where was we're looking at the dark in well light rooms on either computer or TV screens. I know at the 24 Hours of Daytona they have the track lights so it's never as dark and the cars still run with headlights.

I wish there were more manufacturers in the GTE class, would be nice to see an Audi R8 or a Lamborghini Gallardo out there, among others.

I really just like hooking up farkers.

Never really pay attention to the bridges, but those vast sand traps at that chicane never fail to awe me, just the sheet size and smoothness of them. It's looks like the Sahara in the middle of the track.

Time to go to the pits for a pants change.

That was weird listening to a feed from one of the cars and hearing silence for a second, then clicking over to see the car in the pits and seeing them refilling their drink feed, was he drinking red bull?

Did the FIA director go on a coffee break there for a couple minutes? We were just staring at pit road.

Tsrwedge: TOYOTA Racing Statement : Anthony Davidson

Anthony Davidson was taken to the circuit medical centre following his accident during the Le Mans 24 Hours. Doctors at the circuit have confirmed that Anthony is suffering from shock and back pain, however there are no signs of any injuries and he is walking and talking with no problems. He will be taken to a local hospital for precautionary checks but the team is relieved and happy to hear he is okay. Further updates will follow in due course.

UPDATE

Anthony Davidson @antdavidson tweeted "Well that was a big one! Lying in a French hospital with a broken back wasn't what I had in mind at this stage in the race..."

Hope he fully recovers.

Graham Hill said he would start counting as he exited Tertre Rouge, and when he hit a certain number, he'd yank the wheel right so as to make the kink at the far end of Hunaudières.

/ Or so the story goes

In a weird way, Audi domination is making for some good racing, since they don't seem to give a shiat who wins, as long as one of the top 4 does.

I've heard that too, and thing is, that was Graham Hill, not exactly a mere mortal.

hmmm how about a 24 hour race at Road America?

I was thinking, if the current LMP1 cars top out at about 205, they should get rid of the chicanes on the straight of Mulsanne. They were put there because of cars going over 40 mph faster, but the current cars can't come close to that so no real point to a couple chicanes to slow things down.

They top out at 205 because the sections between the chicanes are so short. Restore the original straight, and teams will remove the downforce, and you'll see 400+ km/h again.

/ Lots and lots of +

Well the minimum weight for an LMP1 car is 100kg more than for an old Group C car, also the old cars could run whatever engines they wanted. LMP1 are limited to 3.4 liters for naturally aspirated engines and 2.0 liters for turbocharged engines, that's for gas engines, diesels go up to 3.7 liters but they have restrictor plates that limit them to about 520 HP. I remember hearing the old Nissan twin turbo V-6, which was 3.0 liters, was good for 600 HP. Also the cars have slightly different physical dimensions. Given the extra weight and the smaller engines, I'm not exactly sure LMP1 cars have much more speed in them. Granted it'll be interesting to see what happens in 2014 when they ditch all the engine restrictions and go back to anything goes.

Audi battle still being awesome.

Half the Corvettes left on track just need to be put out of their misery. How they're still running, I don't know.
