I wouldn't want to live next door to her, if she has these plants in her front yard. It probably looks like shiat.

Fenced in backyard, fine.

The neighbors complained for a reason, don't ya think?

One of my friends had a neighbor call code enforcement because his grass was 1/2" too tall. The city didn't care that the reason was that it had been raining for over a week so he couldn't cut it, they still cited him. Tulsa's code department is like an HOA run amok.

Because they're ignorant asshats that get upset that someone is using their yard to grow food and don't give a fark for anyone other themselves?

Property value is an annoying concept dreampt up by assholes who don't see any utility in actually living in a house. See, some of us are crazy enough to think that houses are, first and foremost, places to live. That means putting gardens where we like, letting kids play in our yards (which means your toxic fertilizers can suck it), painting it whatever color pleases us.

Take your property value and shove it. The value of your property doesn't go down when people have a garden. The value of your property goes down when the economy farking collapses.

I hope she files a harassment suit against these "neighbors" and the city.

Ridiculous. I hope she sues, and wins, for a very large sum. The person who complained should be publicly outed and ostracized. The people who actually did the mowing should be in jail for trespass.

If Americans had any of their original spirit left, we'd fall upon the city inspectors and tar and feather them then drive them out of the city by horsewhipping them in the gonads until they finally were driven into the wilderness to their perish in ignominy and shame for their abuse of the very authority countless of their countrymen gave life and limb to defeat many times in the past.

As someone with a background in code enforcement, I can tell you that this is plain stupid. The officers overstepped their authority. If they trespassed on that woman's property without a judge's blessing, they could be in a whole lot of trouble.

Your neighbor's vegetation only affects your property value because you and people like you decide that it should. If you and your cohorts would all mind your own business it wouldn't have any effect whatever -- unless they're growing some sort of invasive species their lawn has fark-all to do with the actual value of your property.

Replace "vegetation" with "race" and you've have an equally valid argument -- in many places black/hispanic/"outsider" neighbors will drive down property values. But you'd probably consider it immoral to ban home ownership by blacks in your neighborhood merely on the basis of your perceived property value.

Also try to remember that your residence is not an investment. At best it's part of your retirement plan -- you tie up capital in your house instead of just saving money as a liquid asset. Anything beyond that is pure speculation, and if you're worried about minor things like the neighbor's lawn you don't have enough free capital to be speculating in the first place.
