Either they realized the douchebag deputy was lying, or they decided that the douchebag deserved to be spit on.

I'm okay with either solution.

According to the article the jury felt the video evidence didn't jive with the officers' testimony. That's enough for reasonable doubt.

"When we saw the video, it was completely inconsistent with what the deputies said," said Sarah Valdez of Torrance, who works as a restaurant server. "I'm not going to say they should lose their jobs, but something should be done."

Why does this guy have security cameras at his house?

Why not both?

I spat the sheriff, but I did not spit the deputy!

A law enforcement officer lying? I don't believe it!

For this very reason.

This guy lost any sympathy from me when I read that he was DUI.

Why not? I'd get one but I'm a cheap bastard.

The police involve should be fired at a minimum and tried for purgery. If they did no wrong then they have nothing to fear, otherwise their testimony in any future case can be brought into doubt.

Pretty sure I'd never get jury duty as I'd have to tell them much like a lawyer, if a cops lips are moving then hes lying.

Sounds like both parties were less than truthful. While I tend to be disagreeable to law enforcement mostly these days, the flee the scene and blame it on his mom guy doesn't sound like a peach either.

Exactly. Which is why he should have been convicted of battery on a police officer, whether he in fact did it or not.

Another anti-cop thread.

Shameful

Just another lapse in the law. All evidence should go through the police first so they can get their stories strai... examine the authenticity, otherwise it should be immediately destroyed.

Those poor, poor, sensitive little piggies.
They just get so upset because someone spit on them.
That does NOT foster respect.

Seriously, "felony assault and battery on a police officer" for spitting? I'd never convict even if I was certain he did it.

More cops beating civilians then lying on the stand.

Here's hoping they all get the parade they so richly deserve

Every person complaining about cops should actually go be a cop for a couple of years. You would change your tune. But then, I realize that most of you truly enjoy talking out of your asses. I get it.

Nice, I knew I should have looked the spelling up.

I've encountered way fewer nice and helpful police than lying a-hole turds.

So, in spite of routinely deployed new and revealing technology cops continue to leave out significant exculpatory detail, exaggerate, and outright lie on the witness stand. And then are all butt-hurt when juries refuse to convict.

Tough shiat, Sherlock. Show some integrity...you know, the REAL kind...and juries will start giving you the benefit of the doubt again.

(talking to the cops here, phlegmmo...not you)

But if he placed a "Hello Kitty" sticker on the cop's car, now that's a felony!

And every person defending the cops should get harassed, arrested, charged, beaten, sodomized, and have all charges dropped several times for a couple of years. You would change your tune. But then, I realize that you enjoy blind allegiance to authority. I get it.

What part of his Fark handle is not clear? ;^)

BTW Terry, I spent nearly a decade in Federal counter-drug programs, and see no reason to change my opinion.

In this case what should have been an open-n-shut DUI case turned into an embarrassing cluster fark for the PD. It was a classic case of the cops and DA going for the 'nuclear option' right off the bat on the suspect by charging him with anything and everything they could think of that was even remotely possible. In over reaching they screwed the pooch, calling their whole case into question and leaving them with egg on their face with the jury.

Instead of routinely felating the local PD, DAs would do themselves, LEOs and society a HUGE favor if they would apply the same 'bullshiat screen' to the cops' side of the story as they do the suspect's version. Instead, they connive with LE to get a conviction, as if that was the point of the whole exercise. It may be 'legal', but it sure as hell is not what was intended for this country.

Yes, becasue if you DUI you should immediately loose all of your civil liberties. The cops can just execute you if they want, and the public is okay with that.

Wahhh... if they don't like it, they can get a job where 'nads aren't required. Nozzles.
