Charley Casserly, a former general manager who was a member of the NFL's competition committee, says he voted against releasing All-22 footage because he worried that if fans had access, it would open players and teams up to a level of criticism far beyond the current hum of talk radio.

Half the coaches in the NFL might as well commit seppuku now.

Finally. It always bothered me how you could rarely see what the hell was going on in the secondary. Some of us are actually interested in defense too.

I don't see how this is any different than being at a game. It's not some revolutionary new thing that thousands upon thousands haven't had the weekly opportunity to see for the last however many decades.

While it's not much different than being at a game (depending on where your seats are), you can't go to every game. What this does is allow anyone willing to pay for it access to that level of game footage for every game. Previously that footage wasn't available publicly.

Just watch the games at a strip club. Nothing will come between your titties, football and beer except for more titties.

On the bright side, maybe, just maybe, more WEEI mouthbreathers will figure out what normal fans have known since about 2007 or so - that Belichick is absolutely not the defensive genius people make him out to be.

Can this change actually be attributed in part to Madden (the game)?
I know it makes sense to me, but I mean, semi-officially speaking?

In other words, I will now be able to pay for the privilege of watching a game that I didn't see when it was broadcast because they only televised Tim Tebow's nose hairs and Andy Reid wasting his time-outs?

Brilliant!

I think's it more attributable to the $69.95 annual charge the NFL will rake in.

In years past this was true. But the pats will have a much better defense this season.

I cant stand the Big O show. It's one of the most unlistenable things on the radio. I used to listen to EEI so I could hear the guest spots done by Zolak, Felger and Mazz. The sportshub took all if EEI's best guests and made a radio station with them. A Frank from Gloucester phone call always made my day. But Ron from Malden has stolen his throne.

And we have a winner. Tell us what he's won. A lifetime supply of vuvuzelas and 12 cases of PBR.

I heard Jaws Jaworski talking about the "All 22" tape on a local radio show....it is the tape that prior to this was given to teams and made available for fans at the NFL Films studios (and obviously given to select media outlets, basically NFL and ESPN to the extent it had a contract to televise games. but yeah, he said NFL Films also made the All 22 tape available to fans but only at the studios in New Jersey.

and he echoed what Casserly said. It will expose everything which is why some coaches / GMs / organizations didn't want it out there. their formations, tendencies, and specific players missing plays are shown and certain agents don't want the scrutiny.

i don't think it will change a ton. who knows.

I'm not entirely sure why, but this made me laugh out loud. Luckily I have the house to myself right now, so nobody has to wonder if I've gone insane. (Well, except the cats, but I'm pretty sure they already have that opinion of me.) :)

Its gonna be a stat fest not seen since baseball threads. I foresee dungeons and dragons football leagues using individual defenders performance rather than "defense" as a single unit within two years. And everybody in every football thread will be informed about O linemen's individual blocking stats. The more assburgery farkers will be SCREAMING drunken phrases describing homosexual acts regarding blocking schemes and secondary coverage when their favored team is not playing well.. It will be much like before but more of it and the volume cranked to 11.

I'll be setting aside the $70 in time for the preseason. I'd love to be able to more clearly see what the fark happens when the Chargers inevitably melt down and blow games they should easily win.

Bold prediction: nothing will change.

People seem to be getting bent out of shape about this. Who cares if 50,000 sud-swilling couch-moisteners think a play was called wrong, audibled wrong, or executed wrong? It'll be just like before.

Meh.

For now. A few more years and we'll be able to pick our own camera angles at home, in HD with surround sound.

I feel like every year I have to put up the video showing how to do this at home by simply disconnecting your center channel speaker.

Can they see the feed during the game? I thought it was something they received later. So we'd get the overanalysis later. Maybe I didn't understand the article (which would be bad, because Deadspin). But we did a pretty good job of keeping the D&D football discussions out of the football threads last year, right? Surely, we can keep it up this year. We need a good .jpg to get our point across. Hmmm.....

Oh and assburgers gonna assburger. I mean, nothing we can do about that, right?
