Why do American networks think shows like Misfits & Inbetweeners will work on watered down channels?? Seriously unless it's on HBO, Showtime, or IFC these remakes will never be as good.

"Elementary" looks like a farking abortion. A female Dr. Watson.

Fark you, America.

Thank God there is the BBC Sherlock with Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman (Smaug and Bilbo, in the upcoming Hobbit films, BTW.)

I don't see Friday Night Dinner or The Inbetweeners being anywhere near as funny being made in America. And they're both already on in America.

Id love to see more Johnny Lee Miller, but Elementary is just a bad idea.

Its disgusting how they are piggybacking on Sherlock with this Elementary abomination. Sherlock is easily one of the best shows ever produced. And the idea of a US-based Sherlock with some drug addict angle - ugh. Makes me want to vomit.

I hope the BBC sues the living jebus out of CBS and everybody in the show is shaved, sterilized and caged for the rest of their natural born lives.

Almost everything from classic comedy like Fawlty Towers to televisual hell like The Jeremy Kyle Show has been remade for broadcast across the pond.

There was an American version of Fawlty Towers??

"causing sexual arousal" is not a sufficient description of the effect.

Also, I am in America and watched the British produced show, starring the british actors. Unless there's a point to it, unless it has something new to say, unless it's an original exploration of the same root concept, what's the point of an american remake.

These british shows really aren't inaccessible to american audiences.

I am interested that the Beeb thinks that they own the rights to Authur Conan Doyle's writing. It is not as if it is original Auntie Beeb work.

You can remake Misfits on one condition. You bring in Robert Sheehan to reprise the role of nathan and you do not change his personality, way of speaking, or thought process AT ALL.

Shows we've ripped-off from the Brits and made as well, or better, in the States:

Antiques Roadshow
American Gladiators (1980s version)
Three's Company (remake of Man About the House)
The Office (even my Brit friends agree)
Shameless (probably a toss-up depending on your preference)
Veep (based on show called The Thick of It)
All in the Family

Of course the list of shows that were worse over here is about 10x as long, so...

Loves me some Sherlock and the original Brit version of Top Gear.

Very much this. I loved the first two seasons, the third not so much. Oh, hey, look, it's a new guy who is crass and irreverent and says naughty things.

Awesome.

You can't technically reboot Python since there's no long running scenarios or well developed characters, but there's been plenty of sketch TV shows going for the Python style of humor.

Most British shows are pretty bad. UK can't really do subtlety at all. I see no reason why these couldn't be remade, but really, why bother when the US has stuff like Breaking Bad, Mad Men and Game of Thrones (although granted the latter has a lot of British actors)

I enjoyed season 3, but it will suck now that Simon & Alicia are gone, & also read that Kelly won't be returning to the series either. So that leaves Rudy & Curtis, lame.

Most British shows are either great or horrible with most being horrible. That's what you get with individual writers rather than large teams. Teams can get rid of the horrible stuff, though the they don't really increase your chances of getting something great. So American shows are great or mediocre with most being mediocre.

Most American shows are certainly mediocre. The best american shows in the past decade though have been pretty phenomenal.

I want: The Chase.

Eh. (*****SPOILERS*****) Holmes made Moriarty realize that the only way Moriarty could "win" (aka get Holmes to jump off the building) was for Moriarty to kill himself so he couldn't be forced to call-off the hits on Holmes's friends. With Moriarty dead, the only choice Holmes would have to save his friends would be to jump. It was a bit silly, but there was at least logic to it.

Hmmm, let's see. American TV doing "The Misfits". Hmm. No.

"The Misfits" couldn't do "The Misfits" after the first two series. US TV would just be a combination of Heroes and "The Bill Cosby Show." Designed by a committee of retards. Good lord it would awful. Somehow, American TV doing the xmas special with Nathan stomping on a placenta just isn't going to happen. Ever in the US.

Why is the idea of a female Doctor Watson so upsetting to you?

Does it ruin your childhood fantasies of solving crimes with Sherlock Holmes and watching as he philanders about, knowing that at the end of the day you'll be the man he comes home to ('cause, you know, you're totally not gay, you're just really good friends)?

Didn't the ending of ABC's Life On Mars teach us anything?

America WILL fark up a good British show. They will fark it up so bad you will want to hurl your television out a window, shiat on it, mail the fecal covered remains of the television to the producers of the show, and hire someone to smear the shiat on the producers when it arrives in their offices.

The New Young Ones!!!

There is no way in farking hell that either The Inbetweeners or Misfits is going to suck MAJOR ash!

Let's start with Inbetweeners. The WHOLE thing is about 4 teenage boys being as crude as they can. Is Jay going to be mute in the US version? Everything that character says has sexual meaning & it's not even the least bit subtle. ALL the best bits of that show can't be shown on US TV. Maybe Jay jumping on the car but there are quite a few farks in that scene too. Then there's Simon's "first time." There's also quite a bit of nudity in it. Especially with Neil. MTV must need a tax write off because I doubt it will make it past the first episode without the "Mothers for interfering with decent television" brigade. No Simon Bird or James Buckley? No thanks. They are both PERFECT for those characters. The other 2 characters could be recast & I don't think it would make that big of a difference. For the love of all that is holy I HOPE they don't cast "pretty" boys. These characters aren't supposed to be models. They're supposed to be average.

Now for Misfits. First off Alisha's power. Basically anyone who touches her INSTANTLY wants to have sex with to the point where she's almost raped several times. Yep that's going to fly on US tv. Then there's one of the most beautiful love scenes I have ever seen between Simon & Alisha. No nudity was show but it was still too graphic for US tv. Next we have Nathan... Is Nathan also going to be mute? One of the funniest scenes won't be shown on US tv. The scene where Kelly & Nathan try to get it on. Can you imagine the fit the parent's association is going to have seeing Nathan try to finger Kelly? Unless they can cast Robert Sheehan AND Iwan Rheon it's going to be totally unwatchable for me. Those 2 guys made their rolls so great, imo, I doubt whoever is making this is going to be able to capture the magic those two brought to their rolls. Robert was brilliant as Nathan. He was able to walk the fine line of lovable jerk. The new guy they got to replace him just comes out smarmy. He's TOTALLY unlikable. Now with Simon you have to have a REALLY good actor. There are so many subtleties to him & he goes through huge changes in the span of 2 season. The person is going to have to walk a very fine line keeping Simon slightly creepy. If they go too far it isn't going to work with the story line. I honestly think Iwan was perfect for Simon.

I would love to see Lauren reprise her roll but with her accent there's no way she'd ever get cast. Antonia was great as Alisha. Again her accent might be a bit thick for the US. Nathan (Curtis) is the only one I don't care too much for. Curtis could pretty much be played by anyone. As long as they're athletic.

I have a very bad feeling one of the girls is going to be written as a total bimbo. Probably Alisha. She'll turn out to be some super skinny blond bimbo. Part of Alisha's journey is that she's slightly bimboish. She also changes a lot over the 3 seasons. Especially during season 2. Kelly is probably going to turned into a total hoodrat. This is going to make me a very sad bunny.

Why couldn't MTV leave well enough alone? I guess they didn't learn from the whole Skins debacle. What a mess that turned out to be. Again a show that was too sexual for US tv. Not to mention turning Maxie into a lesbian. smh What was so wrong keeping him a gay guy? smh

So after all that I say there is no way in hell either of these shows are going to translate in a way that will last past the first episode on US tv. I really wish we had a watershed in the states. MAYBE then these shows could work here.

Dude, seriously. Sherlock is pretty good, but its nowhere near as good as some people are making it out to be. I hated the Moriarty character, and found a lot of the show tiresome. Consequently I'm totally willing to give Elementary a chance, and think it could even be good, if it doesn't devolve into a Booth & Brennan/Castle & Beckett sort of thing.

/Misfits on the other hand cannot be remade in America. It will never be anywhere near as good.

Will run on friday night, during summer 2013.
