OH GOD THE HORROR

How many people would qualify? Anyone know?

Pretty much none. You have to be a US citizen or a Resident Alien to join the military, although it's always possible that a few managed to slip past.

So kids that came here before they were 16 and have no criminal record can have their deportations delayed?

AMNESTY!

Just remember, Romney and Bain Capital would consider that a shrewd business move.

yeah well...I had a list of program changes and variable updates for the month end fiscal process in my head and not written down anywhere. should make someone's life hell around month end....not to mention the stuff I always meant to get around to fixing before next quarter...

sammyk: It should be automatic. All the paperwork should rubber stamped the second said soldier get an honorable discharge or re-ups. No citizenship test, no waiting period, no questions. Welcome to the club citizen! Hell, they did more than I did to earn it. I was just born here.

Absolutely. Especially in recent years, where signing up involved a very real chance of being killed or (psychologically or physically) harmed for life, and usually involved more years/tours than the recruiter mentioned. As a bonus, they know the language/culture well enough to function in an incredibly stressful "workplace", so it's impossible to argue that they wouldn't have a high chance of integrating into society when they return to civilian life.

Well, I'm writing a chat platform to insource our call center chat solution to save a couple of million bucks. We'll need a team if the business owners want to NOT waste money. The CIO is pushing for our platform. We'll need support. Hit me in email, our tech group always needs pepole, badly.

My opinion is that there were a few years are the peak of Iraq/Afghanistan where the DoD was pretty hard up for new recruits, and were probably somewhat willing to overlook a couple "minor inconsistencies" in the submitted paperwork. I can't support that with numbers, however.

Aarontology: When it comes to the folks who have served in the military, people need to shut right the f*ck up.

Especially if they've never served themselves. Anyone who is willing to die for America should be a citizen. I can't believe that's even an issue.

There was a story a while back, maybe a year or two ago. Some WWII vet who had lived here all his life, his parents had brought him across the border illegally when he was a baby. He'd worked, paid his taxes, served honorably in the military in WWII, then was denied some sort of benefit because they found out he was illegal and not a citizen. Right wingers were furious, up in arms about this outrage. For god's sake, he'd sacrificed in WWII for this country, he deserved citizenship just for that!

Of course, he was Canadian.

The correct answer is "They don't have problems with Mexican immigrants lowering the price of labor either, but it's an effective way to trick votes out of people we're squeezing the standard of living out of."

And sorry about your job. EIP and I'll send you our posting site. You have decent grammar, which is better than half of our tech-related employees. I got asked by a project lead last week if we'll be able to find "HTML programmers" in three years, because she was having a "hard time finding replacement programmers to support the last few projects." I'm guessing she's having a hard time because she has no idea how computers work.

Obama is wiling to go all executive order on this immigration, but didn't do so for DADT or Medical Marijuana.

Such actions could be interpreted as election year maneuvering.

How exactly is issuing a policy directive to a federal agency unconstitutional? Issuing policy directives is absolutely within the WH's authority, and requires no oversight from Congress.
