By Chicago standards, he's as honest as Abe Lincoln, but admittedly that's not
a very high bar to step over.

How honest was Ole' Abe really? He was never truly forthcoming about those Vampires.

Well, not that it makes it right, but at least Obama knows he has to lie because he is trying to hide things that he KNOWS are bad. The GOP doesn't really lie much about their own platform any more because they don't think that f*cking over minorities, women, the middle class and anyone else who isn't rich, male and white is bad.

//yeah, i know, lesser of two evils, but hey, short of being an actual descendent of Hitler, this guy is going to have to work a lot harder to lose my vote compared to the three-ring circus from Derpistan.

When Obama lies, he usually lies through half-truths, which Dana Milbank admitted to in her discussion about how Obama's budget would lead to the lowest discretionary spending in 60 years rather than the lowest spending in 60 years.

When Romney lies, he usually lights his pants on fire in the process, like outright stating that Obama has refused to negotiate any trade agreements with Latin American countries when there is plenty of evidence that he actually signed trade agreements with Colombia and Panama last October.

It's not a lie if you're actually totally clueless on what you're talking about.

So Obama is lying because he says there is a point to this election?

Not sure I understand the complaint.

Definitely sure I understand how trolling half the electorate can generate page views though, so grats Dana. I'm assuming you submitted this to fark yourself.

The point is Obama hasn't had a new talking point or a plan in almost two years. His plan consists of "cutting growth of Medicare" without actually stating how he would do so, because then his plan could be analyzed. It's like patenting an idea to sell goods through mobile access... but not stating what technology is required. OH wait... the patent office does that. Obama should become a Patent Reviewer, he'd fit in great.

Wow. Someone mentions minorities, women, and the middle class and your mind just goes straight to entitlements huh?

If Dana Milbank had caught Obama in the sort of bald-faced lie that Romney tosses around on a regular basis, this headline might be justified. But he didn't. His disagreements are valid, I think, but relatively quibbling. This is not the partisan derp I've come to expect from Fark.

Umm, pardon me. Did you happen to see that picture next to "Dana Milbank's" name???? Any guessses as to whom that picture was of? Is this a modern version of "Victor-Victoria?"

Don't forget, this is going to be the most important election in at least 1460 days. This vote could well determine the fate of the entire..

farts.

That is what this election is about.

Farts.

Who can fart into the wind louder; with more texture; with greater vigorous bursts.
Make sure your voice is heard, that we all may partake in these flatulent times!

The point being that as long as the Democrats can have a majority Congress but then complain they can't get anything done because filibuster, there will be a stalemate. And vice versa.

My point being that Dana seems to have missed the parts of Obama's speech where he recounted the historical achievements of both parties, reminded the audience that the successes of America's government were built on consensus and shared vision and could be that way again, and urged them "vote for anyone else - whether they're Democrats, independents, or Republicans - who share your view about how America should grow".

I guess it would have been a tad clearer if Obama had just said "Congress is f*cked, so stop voting for obstructionist asshats".

From Balloon Juice:

The Dick whisperer is very, very upset with Obama, because he did not lay out a specific plan in his stump speech yesterday:

www.balloon-juice.com

What has him very upset is that Obama has not cut social security and medicare to deal with the debt crisis. He won't mention the two trillion in cuts that Obama did make (and that the Republicans are trying to wriggle out of because their defense contractor donors are going to lose some money). He won't mention the fact that the easiest way to deal with our debt crisis would be to let the Bush tax cuts expire (other than to note Obama "complaining" about Republicans refusals to raise taxes).

I'm really not sure I can take six months of this. I wish Milbank would stick to topics he knows something about, like whether Obama looks good in a bathing suit or the optics of Bush's Mission Accomplished banner.

No, I did not see the picture. I have no idea why I assumed it was a girl. God, that was a colossal error.

I have no idea why you're saying that considering that I've already publicly stated that I'm voting for Gary Johnson in November.

The "so vote republican" meme applies when some Republican does something bad and then a conservative, posing as an independently minded citizen, posts something that a Democrat has done that is in a similar vein and of equal or (mostly) lesser gravity, then claims that both sides are bad, "so vote Republican." The humor comes from the fact that no actual case has been made that one side is better or worse, yet the conclusion is to vote for one side.

In this case, Black has clearly outlined that one side is worse than the other by the measure of their actions. "So vote Democrat" is the natural and logical conclusion of saying that Republicans are WORSE than Democrats. Thus, there's no juxtaposition humor here.

There's also not any real history of liberals pretending to be "independents" on this site. Fark Liberals tend to plainly and unabashedly advocate their position. They don't pretend like they are representative of some mythical mass of "Real Americans", they tend to lament that the average American is so out of sync with them. So there's really no hypocrisy here either.

Humor, of course, is very subjective, so its usually really difficult to just be "wrong" when you are writing in jest. Your ability to meet and exceed these inherent challenges is really quite remarkable.
