I'll take France over Ukraine 1-0 (despite wanting Ukraine to win) and an upset with Sweden over England 2-1.

Sorry subby, but I still want England to lose. It's just tradition.

I really really want to root for England, but they make it so hard.

It is easy root against the French though. Go Ukraine!!

Ukraine 1-2 France
Sweden 1-1 Nigelshire

I'm going to say they're both draws today. I'm actually pretty convinced of that.

Come on Ukraine and I guess England. I want to cheer for England, but there are so many other exciting teams to cheer for. I'm hoping old man Shevvy gets another brace and puts the youngins in their place (ha! I rhymed).

Sweden over England in a tournament isn't an upset.

Surprisingly, former England international Darren Anderton isn't completely horrible in his role as studio-analyst on TSN.

Well, you can always fill the time by googling Shevchenko's wife until the match gets started.

Brings up an uninformed question - are there any covered stadiums in big-time soccer?

I guess it depends on whether or not there is a lightning storm in Kyiv. games are at different venues.

Yes.

Cardiff's Millennium Stadium for one.

Stadium is multisport.

It's about as common as in the NFL, which is to say a handful of the bigger teams have retractable roofs. Germany has a few.

Most big teams go for the Dallas Cowboys' style covered-stands-open-pitch type stadium though.

This is an unusual situation for France, what with being exposed to all those droplets of falling water and whatnot.

2012-06-15 12:34:03 PM
So even once it stops, how long will it take them to drain the field to a reasonable amount of sogginess?

I remember them saying the stadium in Warsaw (where Poland is playing all of their 1st round matches) had a roof for their 1st match, but was open air for their 2nd.

That's because the winning country got to take the water home.

I think it's more the lightning than the rain, really. They could probably get over the rainfall, but the lightning is a major safety issue.

His name is "Sicknote," Darren Anderton is merely an alias.

Hoping England can beat the Swedes, see that one ending 2-1. I'll say Carroll scores the winner.

Ukraine-France is going to end 0-0, with both Ribery and Schevi missing potential game-winners after 80 mins played (if it ever dries out)
